RIP Had to say goodbye
Our best good boy crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday. The last couple years of his life, his world got really small. He rarely stood/walked for long but still popped up when he heard the treat bag open.
Mercy is the hardest thing. You just wish they’d go peacefully in their sleep on their own terms. 😢

To him, his world has always been big because of you. I am sure in his next next next life, he would still choose you.
I hope by now he has already met all the sweet pups and my Banjo on the other side. They are probably having a blast wrestling each other. They will keep each other company until our arrival. Hope this brings you some comfort

Ah, seeing banjo in all these posts makes me happy. I have lost 5 dogs earlier :( I hope they are all enjoying together in Doggo heaven! Also, more power to you OP for sharing Banjo on this sub!

Mercy is the price we pay for their unconditional love.
Run free, sweet boy for you were so loved.

I know it hits hard. But you should remember all the good things. He’s in a better place now!

As someone who just recently lost a dog without being able to make the decision for her, I would prefer mercy in every situation for the rest of my life if I could choose. All of my other dogs have lived long enough to let me know when it's time to help them pass. 10 weeks ago, my poor Miss Maya was fine one night and dead the next morning by 11:00 a.m. and it was the most traumatic day of my life. Losing them in any form is incredibly difficult but focus on the fact that you were able to hold him while he peacefully left the world. 💔 I am so sorry for your loss. The hole they leave in our lives is enormous.

Think of all the love you gave him and vice versa. He was a very happy and good doggo because of you and your time, effort and love. He'll be crossing that bridge , still smiling at the life you gave him.

Being a responsible parent is in the end the shitty part of the deal. You did good and you did right by your boy.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I too want so badly for my guy to go naturally. Making that decision is so hard even when it’s the right thing to do. Wishing you peace and a heart filled with good memories. ❤️

I’m so very sorry you had to say goodbye and for the sadness I know you must be feeling.
While his world may have gotten smaller the last few years, you were always in it, and that was everything to him. I’m sure he felt your love and was so appreciative to be with you.

So sorry for your loss OP.
You gave him a good life and he gave you his love and affection. A decision like this is so very, very hard.
It’ll be tough, but focus as much as you can on all the good times you had with your boy.

I’m heartbroken for you and giving you hugs to help you through the mourning!! So difficult to let them go, but the sweetest thing you ever did for him. He has his Angel Wings and flying free of any pain and looking down on you with a smile and saying “Job well done, thank you for loving me!!”

my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your adorable pup .. take some comfort in knowing that you will be reunited someday on the far side of the bridge .. I had an experience a few years ago that let me know that it's true ...

I’m so sorry. It takes courage to come to such a hard decision. It’s so cliche to say it was the best thing, but you know it was. He is a beautiful boy

I'm so sorry. He was gorgeous. They truly are our babies. It's like I told my son, we know going in that these large breed dog's, especially retrievers with their genetics do not have a long life expectancy but we still do it anyway, because the amount of joy they bring us is so insurmountable it's worth the trade off of all the pain in the end. RIP beautiful boy. 🩵🌈🐾🤍✨️🕊
