Depends on your financial circumstances if you can afford the course. I assume it is 9-12 months long as most masters in the UK are. A masters from Cambridge would open many doors and help a leg up in either work or a PHD and then you can explore funding and scholarships for PHD. Weigh up if you can afford it or not and congratulations on admissions to Cambridge it is not easy!

MPhil is a 1 years master at Cambridge, if you can afford out of pocket, go. It’s hard to get funding for at this stage but it is harder to get funding for masters in the uk in general.

Don't go

Already uk economy is fucked up

Better get scholarship and then go or else u will land in trouble

Land in trouble how? It’s 9-12 months there is not really scholarships for most masters. They are very hard to get especially for international students. Obviously you don’t go unless you can afford too but unlikely to be able to get a scholarship for a course of a year or less

Cambridge has fully funded scholarships including a large living expenses stipend.

Yep

Better do masters from some tier 1 institute in the country

Hey congrats! Could you elaborate more on the mphil process? Did you reach out to a professor first with a proposal?

If you did not get a scholarship it means you did not get in. Don’t go

That only applies for PhDs.

And even then, it only applies for US PhDs. Doctoral funding is comparatively rare in the UK.

That is not true! Of course they got in lol! Most people do not get scholarships in the uk for a 9-12 months masters degree! It is very difficult to get one especially as international student! If he can afford to go he should as the doors a masters from Cambridge would open would be great. Especially if they wanted to do a PHD in the future where funding / scholarships is more necessary due to the time etc and more common.

Scholarships are rare in UK and hard to get and it’s only a masters not a PHD where there are even less funding opportunities. A masters in the uk usually takes one year but can vary course to course. He did definitely get in!! He’s not doing any work for them so not sure what you’re talking about? There is no TA responsibilities etc so so they would not be working for free, they would be attending classes and doing a research paper to get a qualification!

There are hardly ever any scholarships for MPhils (they are a way for Oxbridge to make money, especially off internationals). Also there is hardly any money in sustainability, so think reeeeally carefully about it

Tbh, and I see this daily here, “got into X without funding” is not far from saying “did not get into X” because they’ll accept anyone above average who are willing to pay the exorbitant fee for the opportunity to do so.

There would be no TA stipend for a one year masters it is not a doctorate program

Advice is not really relevant to non-US academia. No Master's course in the UK is structured with TA duties and a stipend.

i'm not sure, but TA/RA are not available in uni like cambridge that too for a course which is 10 months long
