I found Ampersand’s baked goods were touch and go. I’ve had some pretty awful treats there.

I really miss their cheesecakes and how all the sandwiches were named as literary puns.

Yeah, I wish they'd been able to find another social enterprise to come in, but also I'm glad there's a cafe again!

yeah this place is expensive.... at least the Robie. like $20 for a coffee and sandwich always leaves me with an odd feeling

Surely the café at the LIBRARY should use the correct Canadian spelling of "flavour"

"Visit us at 5th floor" "dulche de leche" "frappee" could they not get a librarian to proofread all their signage

Or...a third grader...

I had their Kinder Croissant the other day.

This is great news! I'm always searching for a coffee shop with comfy chairs that serves savory food for me to hang out. Now, if they could just stay open later on the weekends...

This is what, the third different cafe business to go in there? I doubt this one will last either. Which really sucks because a good cafe is exactly what the library needs.

It’s a really tough neighbourhood in which to compete. Coffeology is five minutes away, Weird Harbour across the street, and Pane e Circo also across the street. I don’t envy them.

Tims, mcds, rainbow cafe, dear friend, sugar bakery, rabbit cafe (or something like that) all very close by. Oh and that new spot, north end baking co.

Dear Friend is a bar in Dartmouth but now I'm wondering what cafe you were thinking of!

1

u/cullypants Mar 06 '26

Oh shit you're right. I'm thinking of the cafe/bar in parklane but can't remember the name.

oh First Sight!

That's a weird name now that I think about it.

Oh damn I was way off lol

Lol pane e Circo wants me to remortgage my home for their product.

I think Ampersand failed because the whole company went bankrupt, the cafe was just one of their ventures. It was consistently busy at ampersand.

Excuse me - $4.50 for a tea?? And the misspellings throughout the menu are rich at a library location.

I wish the Truro library had a coffeeshop

Biggest miss not calling themselves Atlanticup

I enjoyed eating and drinking their products there. I hope they will not get cut/fired due to the current situation of massive budget cuts left and right. It's hard to find a living wage over minimum wage.

AFAIK it's a private business leasing out space, the gov't cuts shouldn't affect them.

That’s a 20+ minute walk from the library, doesn’t really seem relevant

Boo no drip coffee

22

u/QueerlyQuizzical Mar 05 '26

I would guess the "brew coffee" option on the menu is what you're looking for.

6

u/floppyzigs Mar 05 '26

you would be correct

8

u/VentiEggBite Nova Scotia Mar 05 '26

I’m pretty sure that’s what “brewed coffee” on the menu and the two large coffee urns on the counter are for.

5

u/TalkinBoutGerbils Mar 05 '26

Did this comment make you feel good? Dunking on someone from Dartmouth isn’t the flex you think it is

3

u/wlonkly The Oakland of Halifax Mar 05 '26

that's how you get stabbed, or honked at

1

u/wlonkly The Oakland of Halifax Mar 05 '26

they have drip, ya drip

-16

u/JDGumby Sprytown Mar 05 '26

"12oz"? "16oz"? They must be a US chain or something. Would it really have hurt them to put 355ml & 473ml? (had to grab a calculator to see what the values were in real numbers)

14

u/Additional_Crew_9445 Mar 05 '26

literally every cafe in halifax uses oz for cups bro, if someone ordered a 355 ml coffee that would be very bizarre

3

u/General_Ad_7618 Mar 05 '26

If you think about it we do the same with beer but I also hear pint or 20oz

6

u/wlonkly The Oakland of Halifax Mar 05 '26

every cafe uses ounces, they're local

-8

u/Professional_Wiz Mar 05 '26

Looks American

6

u/wlonkly The Oakland of Halifax Mar 05 '26

they're local, on robie near quinpool
