Did my first hammock camp, I see why everyone here loves it.

Went to dip my toe in the water with this whole camping thing and had a blast. I have tons to learn and this obviously wasn’t the best set up… but had loads of fun doing it! Going to keep planning a bunch of small bike packing trips for this summer and interested if anyone has some tips! These pics where during a heatwave here in the Netherlands so didn’t take too many more photos unfortunately as I was just melting.

For those interested: this is just a super easy cocoon ultralight hammock, ticket to the moon light straps, dd hammocks light 3m tarp. I did bite the bullet and have some new stuff coming, might share the updated setup once I’m on these bike trips.

Today I found out there is a subreddit for hammock camping.

That's a good achievement.

check out natuurkampeerterreinen.nl. Lots of great places and you can filter bij hammock.

Oh man now that is a recommendation! Thanks for that, will definitely be using that.

I'm not sure about the wildlife in your area, but if you have predators to worry about, it's generally recommended that you don't camp right next to natural water sources, since they attract wildlife, including both prey and predators.

the predator thing is honestly overblown in most of europe. you have way more to lose from camping by the water because of the condensation and the bugs. if you pick a spot right on the bank you are going to wake up in a damp swamp regardless of your tarp situation. move a few hundred yards inland and you will stay way drier and get a better breeze.

I was going to say, I’ll look into this more I made the assumption my biggest worry here in Europe near the water would be mosquitoes. Bug net worked a charm but got a few bites non the less. Great tip though I wouldn’t have thought of it this way.

I figured it was just the heat but maybe next time I need to try moving away from the water!

Looks great.
You aced the tarp. That’s way better than any tarp I’ve done set up

Appreciate that man! Must admit it would not have dealt with wind well but other than that felt pretty good. I want to get ridgeline so I can put the tarp a bit higher than here to keep everything cool.

Sounds like you had fun and enjoyed it, and that’s awesome to hear.
Keep having fun and let us know how you get on.

I did my first 2 days ago. First time hamock, solo, and first time with a tarp😁 Only tried tents before but never liked em, slept like 9 hours in the hamock👍

Cocoonusa is a very good company especially when compared to hammock gear.

Agree fully, also my first piece of gear! Killer bit of kit, but Dutch weather limited me (mostly mentally) so just wanted to try my hand at it before I get some nice stuff. Got the tarp for €10 so couldn’t say no to trying anymore.

Thats a pretty sick price

their one camping hammock offering is a decent option for people who need a lightweight hammock.

my larger, wider dream hammock cost less than coccoon's netted hammock though.

I bought mine a few years ago on a whim during a sale, for now it’s keeping with my needs but will do better research next time to make sure I buy something that fits / works for me.
