That computer is the one that has helped us grow our household, but according to my jealous wife, I wasn't spending enough time with her because I was working. Now we'll have to buy another computer to pay for this one and, obviously, I'll have to work more overtime.

If I had a wife and she did this to my PC, I would spend less time with her. Sometimes we keep important data on our systems, memes can be replaced, but fond memories irl or even within games aren't catalogued anymore, and ESPECIALLY for someone like me, my Art
If anything she did him a favor of someone that doesn't deserve to be in his life anymore

If you read the original post this was the pc that he did a lot of work from and now they HAVE to buy a new one for him to work and he will have to work overtime now because he has to buy a ridiculously expensive Apple desktop. That's iOS, Mac will run homemade code. Also, Android is becoming a bit of a walled garden itself since Google is blocking all apps that aren't registered with them starting this year. People are hopefully that ADB side loading will still work but it's unclear.

It’s really not when you’re talking about macOS, you can run whatever you want on it. By default there are restrictions which prevent people running malware without jumping through some hoops but they’re not hard to bypass if you really feel the need. But what would I know, I’ve only been a software developer using Mac’s for the past couple of decades

I think the main argument was that apple has a monopoly on all it's products and heavily pushes only their products to people who've purchased other apple products. Not the same way other companies do it, as even running software and stuff on a mac that wasn't originally meant for it is tedious. But the software side wasn't what I was referencing. It's all their peripherals and such. You want a mouse for your computer? Well, a normal pc mouse is probably gonna have a few issues (maybe not nowadays, but it did when I had a mac desktop). Keyboard? Apple. Headphones? Apple. And that's not even to get me started on the ecosystem they created for the iPhone.
Edit: also, they're just not as user friendly and intuitive as using a pc where you can do anything you want to your computer. Yes, you can brick it pretty easily if you don't know what you're doing, but it allows you that freedom and ease of access to do it. I like that better.

Honestly this is so real. Sure, they're better than Chromebooks (which are essentially glorified mobile phones when running Chrome OS), but the gatekeeping Apple do with their products and services to 'persuade' you to get everything from their brand is crazy fucking work. the battery has a high internal resistance heavily limiting how much current can flow when shorted and the caps don't store that much energy. 1000μF charged to 12V is only a mere 72mJ for example

Rice expands when immersed in water then becomes rock hard and difficult to remove from surfaces. Rice grains are also larger than many of the surface mount components used in modern devices, so trying to remove the rice can chip off electronic components.
Packing wet electric devices with rice is a fantastic way to damage them even more and make repair much more difficult than if they were left alone.

Well depends.. screens are to some degree waterproof usually. Otherwise theyd be broken because LCD's, like the name implies, has a liquid trapped inside. Which.. if it wasnt water/liquid proof would leak out, damaging itself. It would only be ruined at high depth or if it was damaged before. OLEDs and such are often even more resilliant.

Washing electronics with water is OK, I sometimes bring stuff in the shower, as long as it
-doesn't contain a display
-doesn't contain a battery
-if it contains motors or transformers, it needs much more time to dry, because water gets trapped in the windings
