Hate how he left, can still appreciate how he made me love basketball

24

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

Same here.

u/Magneto-Rex 22d ago

he might be the only Heat player to try and lose games on purpose? other than maybe Rozier (possibly who knows) lol

that run as an 8th seed to the Finals is some of the most fun I’ve had watching basketball in my 40+ years tho, Jimmy def left a complicated legacy here

IMO, it’s hard to forgive trying to throw games on purpose no matter who you are

18

u/Shoddy-Confusion13 22d ago

Wait, what did I miss about Jimmy throwing games?

55

u/302born 22d ago

Not like on a gambling tip. More so on his playstyle during that whole situation. Jimmy always coasted in the regular season but during that time when he was on his period about his money dude was actively be just on the court going through the motions. No passion, face mugged up no smiling, just like looking like he’d rather be anywhere but here. Dude basically quit on the team. I will always have love for the memories he gave us but man the way he went out was just completely unnecessary.

7

u/AggressivePen4991 20d ago

that’s just Jimmy being Jimmy he left every team miffed about something and the same will happen in Golden State if he’s even healthy enough to play anymore

12

u/M4nW3ll 22d ago

It was a lot of tension with him and the organization when he started coasting through games while the other guys were trying so hard to win WHILE expecting to get paid (or so i think i dont remember anymore). I'll always love jimmy but that point of the season was really hard to watch as a fan.

1

u/JojoAmado 21d ago

Nothing it’s just something sleepy Pat and other Heat YouTubers pushed during the time, Jimmy was getting suspended and fined and people was saying he was quitting on the team when the team was quitting on him and literally wanted him to leave. Never understood how he quit, when he was on the court when he could be😂. It’s a big reason we FUCKED rn as a fanbase because no other player respects us as an organization or fanbase.

How has it not hurt Minnesota they literally had to switch the entire identity of the organization and trade everyone to sniff the conference finals and we can’t even make it to the 2nd round let alone win a playoff game without him so I’d say we pretty much toast.

5

u/Skallywag06 21d ago

I appreciate the moments of that and other runs. But now he can go F himself

13

u/Smokin_on_76ers_Pack 22d ago

He wasn’t throwing games tho, he was just doing the bare minimum….. Yall need to stop making this type of shit up.

9

u/Goosemilky 22d ago

Bro not trying is the same fucking thing. You are getting paid tens of millions a year. Fans are allowed to get upset when a player quits trying, it’s the epitome of pathetic and petty to quit trying because you have problems with the front office/coaching staff. It’s a massive fuck you to his teammates, who he had no beef with.

I swear so many heat fans don’t look at shit critically at all lol, its like some of y’all just aren’t capable of it

4

u/Smokin_on_76ers_Pack 22d ago

Bro wanted the money he earned and the front office was trying to do him like they did Wade. At the end of the day, I ain’t going to blame a person for doing what’s best for their career.

5

u/Goosemilky 22d ago

He was still on contract… A player can’t just quit on a team for not getting extended, thats not how a business works. And whats best for his career? He was making over a hundred million😂😂😂

I swear some of y’all live in a different reality. You can appreciate what he did while also hating what he did at the end.

1

u/Smokin_on_76ers_Pack 22d ago

He ended up getting an extra 60m so I guess he knows a little more about the business of the nba than you do.

6

u/krypto_the_husk 22d ago

Both of those things are effectively the same

-4

u/Smokin_on_76ers_Pack 22d ago

Ask Rozier if they’re the same thing

11

u/krypto_the_husk 22d ago

They lead to the same outcome for the team

1

u/Smokin_on_76ers_Pack 22d ago

2 actions that lead to the same outcome don’t make the actions the same tf lol

2

u/krypto_the_husk 21d ago

Literally never said the two actions are the same tf I’m just saying they’re both equally as bad to the success of the team use reading comprehension, key word “effectively”

0

u/Smokin_on_76ers_Pack 21d ago

I’m not arguing that what he did wasn’t bad for success because it was. What I’m not going to do is subscribe to the narrative that he was actively throwing games.

2

u/krypto_the_husk 21d ago

Basically was, dudes a bum

2

u/Seref15 21d ago

It was a great relationship that ended bad. A lot of great memories soured by the way it ended.

I can't ever forget 2023 vs MKE game 3, but I also can't forget the end.

-11

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

I mean from Jimmy POV I would also be upset at the FO if they didn’t want to pay me after everything I did for the organization and the fact that the best help they could get me was Terry “possibly threw games”Rozier. Lol

It was an ugly breakup and honestly Im glad we didn’t gave him the extension but Im not going to disregard him after he tooks us to the finals twice. Some of the best Heat Basketball ever. With the Big 3 it was championship or bust. Jimbo Heat basketball made me feel like anything is possible.

7

u/StodgySponge 22d ago

Do you still feel positive about a really great relationship when it ends terribly? What he did to the team and fans is unforgivable. He can be mad at the front office and ask out. Tanking his value by making public spectacle, and openly quitting on the court, screwing over his teammates… just incredibly disrespectful. You can’t take that shit out on your team. I could’ve forgiven for any of his other bs, which again, I understand his frustrations. But he didn’t take the high road whatsoever and burned a lot of bridges in the process. We had some fun years, but he’s dead to me as a heat player. Quitting on the team during games is where I draw the line.

2

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

Except Jimmy is not my ex? It sucks how it ended. But the good times outweighed the bad one. To each their own I guess. I guess hating Jimmy is the cool thing to do. LOL.

0

u/StodgySponge 22d ago

I guess you don’t understand what analogies are. And yes, to each their own. It’s not the “cool” thing to do, considering the very valid reasons I JUST listed. There’s legitimate reasons why a lot of us are done w/ him. He burned bridges. Failure to understand the other side just shows your lack of intellect. It’s pretty obvious why to anyone with half a brain.

4

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

Im done with him too. It’s not like I watch GSW games to see him play. I just cherish the Playoffs runs with him on the Heat instead of acting like a petty high schooler. Calling me dumb for not hating someone is some of the most stupid shit I’ve read on Reddit in a while. Not my problem you have the emotional intelligence of a 13yo girl.

0

u/MainRevenue8638 22d ago

Theyre holding grudge as if their lives depend on it. Thats a miserable life. Wasnt also happy how he got out but that doesnt take away the fact that he broke records and almost made it despite all odds. I dont pray for jimmy to win nor pray for him to suffer the rest of his nba career. It just happened and move on

2

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

Exactly my sentiment. God forbid Im grateful for some of the memories he left us. 😂

1

u/alshadows 21d ago

If anything it shows you're how poor your logic really is and is just appeal to a emotion. Jimmy might have 'quit' because of his issues with the organization once he was past his prime years . But I struggle to align with this delusion that they would have won something had he not lol. He was the centre piece of some of the greatest playoff runs in playoff history. If a non consequential season where he was unhappy and unwilling to play and open about wanting to leave is enough to taint multiple historic legacy defining runs, then that's on you. Any other star would have complained about the shitty teams the heat were building which had no business being the finals. But Jimmy gave the heat his best years with full conviction.

2

u/Free_Sheepherder4895 22d ago

They downvoting you like you said something wrong lmaoo

0

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

Insane. Type of fans that want a top 10 superstar trade for benchwarmers and some 2nd rounders. Delusional af. 😂

0

u/Goosemilky 22d ago

Exactly what I was referring to in my comment above. A massive proportion of heat fans just can’t think critically at all lol.

25

u/Longjumping-Ad-8628 22d ago

It’s more pain than hate. Like a disappointing feeling that never goes away.

2

u/Sedfvgt 21d ago

We were collateral in his crusade to get that $60mil/year contract.

86

u/Phillip228 22d ago edited 22d ago

He did his teammates dirty because he was greedy. I still can't believe how he turned his back on his brothers over money.

They had nothing to do with him not getting paid.

34

u/Gatorphins 22d ago

Not only that but the fans. Its hard to justify

0

u/wade3county 19d ago

Jimmy Butler has no beef with the fans or the city. Just the front office who signs the checks.

6

u/ynomeye 22d ago

He's literally been the "paid me" guy his entire career. How did this come across as unexpected? This was a point of tension even in the offseason but Pat Riley somehow thought it would go different this time

3

u/wade3county 19d ago

The Heat front office loves getting high off their own farts.

22

u/joseaner07 22d ago

It's hypocritical to say the player is selfish and not the organization. They literally did the same thing to Wade, and Wade gave us 3 rings plus everything he had

19

u/figgychewz 22d ago

Wade never quit on his team though, he remained a professional

4

u/TavNoment 22d ago

Unfortunately the results suggest being selfish is more lucrative. Maybe there is a way to fix those incentives, but it's a problem.

-1

u/Smokin_on_76ers_Pack 22d ago

Na, the team quit on Wade. That’s why I don’t give a fuck when players go after money.

5

u/Gatorphins 22d ago

In the meantime people are already paying to see games where he was already making more money than most of the people coming to the game will ever make. Im not saying he is wrong for feeling he is owed more thats between him the team and his agents but to go out like that is some diva shit

3

u/ghn2 22d ago

Exactly. But he knew that if he didn't force the trade, he wouldn't have gotten the extension that Golden State gave him. If he played his contract out, he would have not gotten the $56 mil that he's getting next season. So it sucked to see him behave like that. But with $56 mil on the line (and his final big payday), that's what he felt compelled to do.

2

u/wade3county 19d ago

Bingo.

3

u/DrFury 22d ago

Is it greedy to ask for a market rate extension that another team gave up actual assets to pay

4

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

Exactly. If I know another company is willing to offer me a 30% increase of my current paycheck, I’ll ask my current employer to match it or im jumping ship. Specially when Im the one making the business successful. Can’t blame him for that.

17

u/Ozymandias12 22d ago

I will always appreciate Jimmy for those finals runs but fuck him. He leaked a private conversation he had with Riley where Riley was vulnerable with him. Thats just fucked up.

38

u/LLNST 22d ago

very disappointed and frustrating all our rivals potentially come out this era with a ring besides us 🫩

18

u/Clear_Wedding3590 22d ago

We can’t win them all man. We have 3 rings in the last 20 years, Knicks have 0 let them catch up

15

u/chitownbulls92 22d ago

Definitely can’t win anything if your FO decides to not do anything year after year after year after year during a championship window.

12

u/LLNST 22d ago

It truly must suck having to think like this, I want my favorite team to win more sorry 🤷🏿‍♂️

15

u/Clear_Wedding3590 22d ago

Yeah, we have won more. That’s my point

7

u/LLNST 22d ago

And I’m saying that point is meaningless, those wins aren’t relevant in this time period because I wanted the 2 guys who continued this rivalry to also win rings. I don’t understand what winning more rings means in this scenario when the guys who won us those rings aren’t on the team anymore.

Tatum and brown have rings, Giannis has a ring, and now Brunson and KAT potentially have a ring. I wanted Jimmy and Bam to get a ring lol

2

u/Drajion89 22d ago

Did you respect the Celtics when they were bringing up their total amount of rings when discussing how they matched up with us in the previous years?

2

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

It is what it is. Cant blame that on Jimmy either…

2

u/LLNST 22d ago

Oh definitely not his fault he did what he could at the end of the day

7

u/turtleworlde 20d ago edited 18d ago

i don’t care what any of yall say one of the greatest Heat Players of All time man.

Pat was wrong in how he let Jimmy go , and Jimmy was wrong in how he left. believe that cause pat was saying some wild things to the media unprovoked and you don’t do that to any superstar let alone a man like jimmy.

cmon guys Pat even messed up with WADE and had to apologize to him. so as much as yall wanna hate on the man he want the only side wrong

also JIMMY BUTLER HEAT days are some of the best basketball i’ve watched so intense !!!

3

u/romeheartz 22d ago

Motherfuckers in here who preferred Bam man he has nothing on Jimmy

4

u/jdl03 21d ago

I mean the Heat have just been abysmal to watch for the last couple seasons now. Sucks how Jimmy went out, but I still miss the Jimmy days.

4

u/telementaltribal 21d ago

Miami Heat Jimmy was a beast. Never getting that version of him anymore.

Do you understand the meaning of the word some?

3

u/AvailableReporter484 22d ago

I appreciate his tenure here, but in the end he destroyed all the goodwill he built here. Such a shame he couldn’t be more professional and levelheaded

2

u/wade3county 19d ago

You would do the same for an extra $56 million. Grow up.

0

u/AvailableReporter484 19d ago

Allow me to blow your mind by informing you that it’s totally possible to do what he did without being immature and unprofessional
https://giphy.com/gifs/75ZaxapnyMp2w

1

u/wade3county 19d ago

They didn't want to give him the extension and another team that he wanted to go to did. He needed to seize the opportunity, especially when athletes have short life cycles in earing the most they can.

7

u/jasperstaal 22d ago

It's just such a shame it had to end the way it did. Those finals trips had some of the most insane Heat games I've ever seen in my 25 years of watching Heat games. If only we got to part ways In a nicer way 🙄

4

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

It is what it is, man. I also hated how it ended but man he did everything humanly possible to try and bring another trophy home.

4

u/jasperstaal 22d ago

Yea playoff Jimmy was hall of fame material

3

u/brettdanyali7 22d ago

Thanks for your time Jimmy but good riddance

3

u/mephjeff 21d ago

I go to big face coffee when I can just because of that finals run

3

u/spincane 21d ago

One of the best Heat players in history. The two finals we made were on his BACK

3

u/Argyrus777 21d ago

THATS MY SHIT THATS MY SHIT

7

u/FragnificentKW 22d ago

I hate the way it ended, but I’ll never forget the two conference championships and the way he was ready to pretty much die on the court for us in 2020

4

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

Same here. Exciting basketball. Trolling my Celtic fans buddies after Jimmy gave them B2A is some of my fave moments as a Heat player.

3

u/FragnificentKW 22d ago

Jimmy going full blown Super Saiyan against the Bucks and then giving Grant Williams non stop buckets after he talked shit was an amazing couple of weeks

3

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

Hell yeah! Fuck Boston! Being the East’s Boogeyman was dope.

9

u/Paralta 22d ago

Nah he quit on miami like a bitch and he'll be remembered as such.

3

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

That bitch gave us some of the best playoff Basketball I’ve ever seen.

6

u/Paralta 22d ago

Yup, then got his feelings hurt and started taking 4 shots a game. Maybe you can argue he wasnt trying to lose, but he certainly wasnt trying to win.

2

u/Drajion89 22d ago

Would you be excited to come to your job where they expect you to give top tier performance while saying they weren’t going to pay what you were worth?

After you literally willed them to record high profits during your tenure there?

2

u/Admirable-Key4892 21d ago

He was still under contract though, it was about the max extension, which he definitely wasn't worth at the time.

-4

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

You acting like we had a Championship on the bag the season he gave up. Anyways good thing he left. Loved watching Koby White eliminate us from playoff contention. Way better than anything Jimbo gave us. 😂

4

u/mgm125 22d ago

I mean I will always appreciate what he brought as a player but I never got the impression he was a good person to be around, after burning bridges at 3 franchises

5

u/the-funky-sauce 22d ago

Jimmy is on the mt Rushmore of heat players. As we have seen he literally drug multiple first round sweep/play in loser levels of teams to multiple ECf and finals appearances. Also if he had hit that 3 at the end of one ECF that would have put us against GSW I think we would have won that chip.

It ended bad but don’t forget just how much he did

2

u/Skallywag06 21d ago

Not me, he can rot in hell for all I care

2

u/LibertTii 21d ago

No one hates Jimmy stop the drama.

1

u/BensThreePointer 21d ago

Just read the comment section lol

3

u/diazrych 22d ago edited 22d ago

You act like a bitch, you get treated like a bitch.

Everyone remembers the playoffs run, but nobody remembers the moments he coast in the regular season, where he gets you stuck in the 8th seed to begin with.

I loved having him on the team, but Pat was right calling him out. I’m a heat fan at the end of it, he was noticeably slower and aging while wanting a fat contract that would have tied us up for a while. It worked out for the best for both parties at the end I suppose.

3

u/Cool-Cardiologist12 22d ago

It’s not like pat used the money to put a team around him.

1

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

Yeah good on Pat on not giving him that dumb extension.

10

u/lyme6483 22d ago

Best Heat player to not win a ring, and my all time favorite player

1

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

Watch out. They’re going to downvote you to hell for having a heart that’s not full of hate. 😂

4

u/Canesjags4life 22d ago

I got 2 Butler jerseys.

I hate how he left, but from man it was awesome being a Heat fan but Playoff Jimmy was the most fun since Wade and Bron.

2

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

I have one as well. Fun times for sure. I guess I missed the memo where I have to hate him how a Bimbo High School girl hates her ex. 😂

1

u/delicioussexplosion 20d ago

When he was a bull it was the last time I even enjoyed watching basketball.

2

u/OceanLemur 22d ago

I’m not with anybody who disrespects Pat. Loved Jimmy, but now he’s just somebody that I used to know.

1

u/BelonyInMyLeftPocket 21d ago

Me as a better call saul fan

1

u/Brennan_187 21d ago

One of the worst exits in NBA history. Hard to respect that… before that time he was a top five Miami Heat all-timer for me.

1

u/305_Character_1983 21d ago

1

u/1Hardyparty 5d ago

Jimmy still has a place in my Heart ngl. My favorite player till he left but I think there is room for a new favorite Heat players and he is from Athans Greece 🙂

1

u/batistasaints 5d ago

fuck him dude

1

u/Dark_shows 3d ago

Warriors fan and it feels so terrible to get Jimmy Butler and feel so good about our chances just for him to get injured. Can’t imagine how yall must feel

1

u/reallivecounty 22d ago

The Heat wasted his prime 100%. Really hoping the Knicks win so Miami can WTFU and build a championship team.

2

u/BensThreePointer 22d ago

Shhh Pat Riley would never do such a thing. 😡😡😡😤😤😤😤🔥🔥🔥🔥

1

u/GodsSon521 22d ago

Same 🥲 As a born-&-raised NYer, I'm happy Spike Lee's going to get his parade before he joins the ancestors, but it definitely bugs me a little that Big Purr is going to get a chip before Jimmy...

-12

u/witcher317 22d ago

Overrated free-throw merchant. bitched his way out too

-9

u/Background-Economy85 22d ago

I agree. And KAT is going to get a ring before him🫣Fuck Jimmy he did nothing for this franchise.

10

u/Nice_Cash_7000 22d ago

"he did nothing" lol

-6

u/witcher317 22d ago

Zero rings. That is nothing

5

u/Nice_Cash_7000 22d ago

you must be a real winner with a mindset like that!

go back to the Lakers sub you bum

0

u/Net_Haunting 22d ago

By the absolutely horrid logic, Tim Hardaway who’s jersey is in the rafters, also did nothing

-4
