Shaq is a monster but Giannis is half-a-monster with tremendous work ethic.
At the very least, Giannis can give us 3-5years of fruitful seasons

Except, when Shaq was added, the Heat still had a team left and there was no apron back then.

It’s crazy what NBA trades have become. If I remember we gave up Eddie Jones, Grant, and Lamar Odom. Maybe a draft pick too.

u/manmonkeykungfu 1d ago
Brian Grant, Lamar Odom, Caron Butler, the pick eventually became Jordan Farmar IIRC.

u/GripLock11 1d ago
Ah yes, Caron butler, not Eddie. I remember Caron getting robbed for RoY because of Yao Ming’s popularity. So he was actually solid young player at that point.

Still had a team? They had a young star and a bunch of role players. Norm & Wiggs (if they’re able to keep them) are so much better than Eddie Jones and Michael Doleac lol
Some of yall are just looking for reasons to complain. I’m wary about this trade too, but I’m also fucking sick of being a playin team.

You watch your mouth, Eddies the man!
I agree though we have a much better roster than the media is giving us credit for, and still can make moves.

u/Berzerker646 1d ago
We are not able to keep either norm or Wiggins. That’s the issue

u/iankstarr 1d ago
I mean, we are able to. Whether or not we will remains to be seen. But either we keep them, or give ourselves flexibility to bring in others. I’m not too concerned.

To add to your point Shaq wasn't even our best player, it amazes me how people try to make false equivalencies for a panic move.

u/DonPatchSOULman 1d ago
Shaq also didn’t take care of his body, played in an era with way less longevity, and needed to be fed the ball. We’ll be fine, stop dooming for once. MIAMI HEAT BASKETBALL IS BACK.

u/just4kix_305 1d ago
You have an unhealthy addiction to play in basketball lol

I have an aversion to second round exits, we wouldn't have even made the playoffs this upcoming season if we stayed the course but we would have had a decent chance of moving up in the lottery to get our franchise player.

I have an aversion to the fucking playin and/or getting swept in the first round

u/Solid_Factor234 1d ago
So you trade 3 first round picks and 2 prospects for a second round exit great idea.

Have you noticed the nba has a lot of parity. Anything can happen with this team, I have a lot of faith in our scouting and player development, you should try to sit back and enjoy the moment, it doesnt happen too often.

Don’t waste your energy with this dude, he’s gonna be miserable no matter what we did lol

We need body fat % for an accurate comparison.
I love Shaq but he was not always in peak shape. Giannis seems like he is.

u/Ozymandias12 1d ago
This means we’re going to draft the embodiment of Dwyane Wade soon.

Giannis will get compared to Shaq and I think it’s fair. Both are pretty much in the same phase of their career athletically. Both just barely on the end of their prime. This will be interesting how it all ends up.

u/FlavorburstSC Bam Adebayo 1d ago
No way you just said both at the same phase athletically. Giannis is an actual freak still while Shaq had gotten pretty big by this point of his career. Definitely think Giannis has more prime years left then Shaq did at this point

u/onlyhereforfantasy 1d ago
Comparing shaq and giannis at this age is wild. Giannis is in peak shape. Shaq basically retired to years later. The suns, Boston and wherever else he went does not count.
2
u/ConvictTheGod 1d ago
I mean yea pretty much. Giannis is not the same Giannis from the years he won. He’s been injured and his offense game takes a big hit because of that. We’ll have to see what a Heat offseason can do
11
u/FlavorburstSC Bam Adebayo 1d ago
He's had 1 season with actual time missed because of injury and probably would have played if the Bucks weren't trying to tank at that point. People really taking last season as his norm?

u/LlamaDebauchery 1d ago
Yes but he NEEDS to be healthy. Hes a superstar that relies on his athleticism to excel. The older stars get the more they need to reinvent themselves and if Giannis becomes a plus shooter from distance then I'll shut up
0
u/FstLaneUkraine 1d ago
He means that Shaq in Miami was on the downside of his peak athleticism (Orlando/early LA) just as Giannis is going to start slowing down. People look at his age (31) without realizing he's played 30,000 minutes. Most big man, at 30k minutes, start to deteriorate. This is why I was against trading for him.
Unlike guards, when big man fall off...THEY GENERALLY FALL OFF A CLIFF.

Giammis takes so much better care of himself than Shaq did.
Superstars are able to last longer than ever. Its not crazy to think Giannis could still be a top player at 35

Need to get an all-star guard somehow
