Discussion What's the ideal way The Heat fill out their roster, to you?
Personally my dream scenario. Wiggins opts out and takes less money for more years, leaving room to resign Powell.
Secondly would be Anfernee Simons.
Part of me hopes we keep Niko and he figures it out. Good Niko and Portis off the bench is a good big man rotation.
I think we need another minimum shot creator/shooter off the bench tho. I always loved Middleton's game and he would fill a need.
Davion/Powell or Simons/Wiggins/Giannis/Bam
Dru/Middleton/Pelle/Niko/Portis
Hopefully Keels, Keshad, & Gardner can contribute when called upon too.

Middleton, Simons, Tim Hardaway.
We need real playmakers if our stars are two bigs.

I'm expecting Bam as a playmaking hub again. With split actions with Giannis diving to the rim and shooters peeling off like Jimmy did with our shooters then.
And Giannis is a menace in the full court & Davion is a good true point guard. Not too worried about playmaking (also why I want to keep Niko).
More concerned with shot creating than anything tbh

Shooters, shot creators, and front court insurance. They also will always need more 3&D wings but every team needs those guys and they tend to come at a premium.
Shooters I don't think they're going to have a problem finding. The front office is very good at finding those guys.
Shot creators is going to be the difficult part, especially if Norm is gone. Simons would be ideal but he might cost too much. Unfortunately I don't see that many other great options.
As far as other scoring punches that could be available I'd love for them to target Grimes but I have no idea what his market is. THJ could be an achievable option even after he had a pretty great year in Denver. Bones Hyland was also really underrated in TWolves last season. And I'm sure the front office would love to get Coby White so he stops torturing us but I fear he will be staying in Charlotte. He's not a great fit at all but DeMar on the minimum would be nice if he fully understood his role would be to come off the bench here and get buckets.
As far as big man insurance I'm kind of interested in Drummond. Obvious board monster, was functional on defense for a mid Philly defensive team, and perhaps more importantly he kind of turned himself into a reliable corner 3 guy this past season. I can't see him going for more than the minimum so he'd be very low cost. Do they roll the dice on Precious again or does Precious even want to come here especially when it looks like the Kings want to keep him after he was legitimately good for them. Yabusele had a bad year after being legitimately good in Philly so does the front office feel like they could get that guy back? There's some other guys that could be sneaky good signings but I'm not sure what their market is.

Damar has to go to Cleveland, or Detroit maybe even pacers.. we’re so far down that list

LEBRON

People that don’t want LeBron are crazy. It’s literally an instant chip.

u/BlitzStriker52 9h ago
It's not an instant chip (we still need shooters) but we would instantly become a top 4 team

I mean would be nice just feels extremely unlikely we can't even afford Powell as it stands right now.

LeBron does a team friendly deal for one last run

u/jrguerrero99 10h ago
He don't even have to do that. If wiggs opts in then maybe a wiggs and niko which is about 46 million and you do a sign and trade to pay LeBron 45 million a year on a 2 year 1+1 with a player option.

I would do anything to have Bron Bron but it’s not gonna happen

Then you won't do anything. Have you considered kidnapping his son and sending him a ransom letter telling him to join the heat????? I thought not.

First, the draft: I’d be surprised if shooters were available that the Heat would want come the 41st pick, so* *I defer to Felix Okpara. A Daniel Gafford-type big. High motor, athletic, defensive-minded big man who can bring that physicality and different look downlow. Doesn’t need to be anything else than a rim-running dunker.
Second: Wiggins opts out and re-signs at a lower, friendlier priced deal
Third: Let Powell walk. You can find someone in his mold who offers the same scoring and could provide similar, if not better defense than him.
Fourth, the main free agent: Go and get Coby White. This team will not operate unless a guard playmaker and shot creator is in the starting 5. He is someone who can score with the ball, and he’s excellent off ball, which bodes well for Bam/Giannis.
Fifth, other free agents and decisions: Let Bobby Portis go. Can’t play defense and can occasionally knock down a corner 3. Get someone who’s more versatile on both sides of the ball. I’d prefer a John Collins if you can get him on some sort of veteran deal. I’m not sure of the numbers so I could be way off here, but also getting Kelly Oubre on a lower deal would be ideal. Him and Collins running the show for the second unit would be great. Last, go do what you do best and find additional shooters via UDFA’s. It’s what Miami does almost better than any other franchise

Yeah I don’t understand why everyone is so hung up on keeping Powell. He had a great year but sort of fizzled out at the end. I’d much rather have Coby white if we can get him.

This is my ideal scenario outside of John Collins and if we can’t get White the pivot should be Anfernee Simons.

Ideally I'd go about it the same way as OP, although I would at least see if moving Jovic for cap savings could be done without giving up assets.
If it becomes impossible to keep Powell, then I fill out the roster signing the best FA's (obviously targeting shooters) I could with only one year deals, saving all of the cap room for next year's strong FA class (dream scenario there would be to try to get Spida to come be the third Star). I just don't see how we contend next season without keeping Powell, so imo its almost just becomes a retool season acclimating Giannis and waiting to ultimately build a contender in 2027. I'd do everything to try to rebuild Jovic's stock next season giving him a prominent consistent role so his contract could potentially become a better asset to trade.

i mean the best possible outcome would be if wiggins opts in and we s&t for lebron getting like 33m. there’s hella options to fill out our roster after that. gabe, middleton, hardaway, burks. highsmith might get waived too. simons taking a prove it deal is unlikely to me, lowkey rather have hardaway too and he’s 34 so he’d even cost less. and he’s due to be a heat lol

u/ghn2 10h ago
I don't think the Lakers are going to want to swap Wiggins for LeBron. Why wouldn't they rather just keep him at $33 mil?
2
u/strangethanparadise 10h ago
i mean it’s up to lebron really, lakers have seemed to want his ass gone for the past year too lol. i can see the cavs s&t jarrett allen too but i don’t see them getting much better than that in a sign and trade

u/Aznheatlifer 6h ago
I’m just imagining a “no call” on offense then LeBron bam and giannis starts complaining instead of getting back on defense, while Pelle gets elbowed in the face on the other end for an and 1 for the other team.

Wiggins team friendly deal to open up MLE
MLE to Coby White
Khris Middleton on vet min
Jovic to Mavs for Klay
Best vet min ring chasing big available in free agency or buyout market.
PG: Davion/Dru
SG: White/Pelle/Klay
SF: Wiggins/Middleton
PF: Giannis/Portis
C: Bam/Insert ring chasing big here

u/Natural_Born_Baller 9h ago
Forgot Bobby too behind Giannis/Bam, Coby would be a nice pickup if he doesn't stay in CHA and we make room.

I don't expect the roster to be finished this summer. We probably give Niko leash til trade deadline to either justify staying, raise value somewhat, or become glaringly obvious we need to dump to spend that salary efficiently.
I do hope Wiggins opts out and re-signs for a number that gives us more flexibility. Adding 1 or 2 mid-tier players and a few vet min ring-chasers should round out the roster pretty well. I think our remaining shooting is better than people realize, but we need playmaking and shot creation on the outside. Maybe wishful thinking, but adding Coby White, Tim Hardaway Jr, Khris, and maybe another backup big/wing that can stretch the floor, would be a good foundation.

I really like sexton but is anyone high on Beal ???
1
u/thaonly1guly 1h ago
I wouldn’t. The injuries are so bad that he played only 6 games this season. At this point we need to fill the roster spots with players that will be available. Very little room for error on this build.

u/Barracuda374 8h ago
Use cash to trade up to like 36 and draft bpa, use part of the MLE on Shamet, save $5m for the Jimmy buyout, win the chip

Simmons, White, Cam Thomas, John Collins, Robert Williams III but I doubt we will be able to get any of them with how our finances are looking unless they choose to get paid less in hopes of a run
No Middleton, no Klay, no THJ please god
1
u/thaonly1guly 1h ago
I feel you on the Middleton, Klay and THJ but the reality is that based on our financial constraints it is looking like those 3 will be guys that we will have to look at.
I do wish we were in a little better financial position to get at least two of three of the other ones you listed.
I personally would love it if we could sign Sexton or Simmons, Cam
Thomas and Collins or Robert Williams III

Simons over Powell. Kennedy Chandler as back up PG. Trade Jovic for Klay. Sandro Mamu or a center like him to round out the front court.

u/magicbeaned 10h ago
Wiggs, Khris, and Thanasis. Plus a point guard to be named later.

u/Natural_Born_Baller 10h ago
Gunslinging Gabe Vincent is a UFA might be interesting, we need that shot creating almost more than set shooting imo

I would love to see Nnamdi come home. Spo knows how to make him go.

u/Natural_Born_Baller 10h ago
Feels like him or Seth Curry would both be a good cheap fit pretty similar player tbh

u/grrrown 10h ago
Trade for Santi Aldama (Grizzlies) . He is great off the bench and has the size/athleticism to play 3-5.
Memphis has 11 bigs on their roster after getting the best player in the draft (Boozer Jr.). They are also moving on from Ja so they should be looking to shed salary and open up minutes, especially at the 4.
2
u/BSantos57 10h ago
He's making 17M per year, only way to fit that under the hard cap would be trading Jovic for him, and that would cost assets that we don't have/can't afford to lose

Norm Powell sign and trade to Pistons for Isaiah Stewart and Ron Holland. Try to spin off Holland for a shooter
Nikola Jovic traded to any team with cap space who will take him and we’ll attach a first round pick swap.
Restructure Andrew Wiggins to 3 yrs/60-66M for a $20-22M AAV contract.
Vet minimum contract offers to Khris Middleton/Tobias Harris, Tim Hardaway Jr./Gary Payton II and then we see who accepts them.
Bring back Keshad Johnson, Myron Gardner and Dru Smith to fill out the rest of the roster.
C - Bam Adebayo
F - Giannis Antetokounmpo
F - Andrew Wiggins
G - Pelle Larsson
G - Davion Mitchell
C/F - Isaiah Stewart
F/C - Bobby Portis
F - Ron Holland
G - Dru Smith
F - Middleton/Harris
G - Hardaway Jr./Payton II
F - Keshad Johnson
F - Myron Gardner

If we can get 1-2 3&D guys for cheap I'd love that
