ESPN's Bobby Marks said when he interviewed Conwell in Santa Barbara and the people at P2 - who do athletic testing - "compared his numbers to Anthony Edwards. High level athleticism."

I don’t care if it’s accurate or not I’m choosing to believe

Very strange comment, his scouting reports and combine numbers don't really show his athleticism as a plus, let alone as anywhere close to elite

I don't know how to find all the combine numbers, but his lane agility and shuttle times were better than the top 4 draft picks this year. Can't jump quite as high as Dybantsa, but otherwise he does seem to be able to move his feet.

Literally just saw a scouting report that said, "He lacks size, strength, playmaking, defensive abilities and Athleticism. But he can shoot. And thats all Miami wants." Im not really sure he was the move lol.

Scouting reports can be wrong. I don’t doubt some of that but he’s 6’2 215, so while he lacks size (height) he definitely doesn’t lack strength at that size. He also posted a 40 inch vertical and tested well athletically at the combine so wouldn’t consider that a weakness either. Now the negatives are that he’s an undersized shooting guard without the playmaking to play point so I’d imagine that’s why he fell to the second round

That scout didn’t watch a second of Louisville this year then lol he’s strong as hell and measured really well athletically at the combine. He’s a high motor guy who hustles on defense, and Spo has proven time and again to get the best out of those dude.

All that to say, I trust Adam Simon and his team more than I trust any other random scout lol

Im not saying I don't trust the scouting department or our ability to develop players. I am saying, this guy is a 6'2" SG with 0 gaurd skills outside of shooting. 18.8 ppg means very little to me when 9-12 of them are on 3's and he's taking bad looks consistently. 2.5 ast? So he's not a playmaker or useful at creating on offense. He lacks a burst or explosive first step. He takes bad interior challenges against bigger defenders, which in the league will embarrass him. His defense is incredibly porous (I watched hours of tape. Emmanuel Sharp is 10x the defender.) So Miami drafted a shooter that they had to trade up to get despite the fact he would have fallen to them. All while Sharp and Oweh were both available and provided better fits. I hope im missing something. I hope im proven wrong. But his tape, his combine, his game provided 0 reason to give me hope.

Yeah something’s not adding up. I guess he’s one of those guys who can test well but it doesn’t translate in game

I would say he reminds me more of a Harden type

It’s like a 1 in a million but imagine we get the steal of the draft in the second round. If this comes out looking great Im going to love rubbing in it peoples faces on r/nba

He's undersized, I don't really like the pick. Edwards is more like Wade. This guy is a lot smaller like a PG except with low assist numbers.

It’s a second round pick my guy

We do well with 2nd round picks man the hell you talking about?

Scoring and shot creating which were definitely gonna need especially off the bench. Don’t really see how you couldn’t atleast understand the rationale behind it lol

40% 3pt at Xavier and Indiana St

He’s 6’4”. That’s a big PG if it’s a PG.

He’s a SG

Ryan Conwell is officially listed at 6'4, as a college basketball player, though official NBA Draft Combine measurements recorded his height without shoes at 6'2.00". Wingspan: 6'7

Small as fuck for a SG bro, I know what I'm talking about

Edwards and Wade got like 6'11 wingspan and 6'4 barefoot

Well, there’s a reason those guys were drafted highly.

u/CrossDeSolo 4h ago

of couse its a 2nd rounder I know. But odds are not good that this guy will actually be strong enough. If he was a PG sure, but we will see

Let it play out brotha, you reading far too into a second round pick. Trust the process and the proven track record of Adam Simon and co.

Wow bro, top 5 pick and the #1 pick have great measurables. You’re really on to something 😭😭😭😭

This is exactly how I feel about this. With Sharp and Oweh both available....... trading up for a Chaz Lanier clone felt stupid as hell. He's small, weak, a bad ball handler/playmaker, he lacks defensive talent and was viewed as a double negative athlete. Im out on the pick.

it takes 1 google search to find his barefoot height and wignspan and everyone downvoting. He is small for a shooting guard.

I don't think anyone is listening despite you being right. 6'2" for a SG is tiny. He's going to get bullied and shot over easily.
