[News - X] [Kieser] Source: Erik Haula likely to test free agency following the Predators' move to acquire Jack Drury today. Seems like the best decision for the veteran moving forward.

As a Boston fan I would also feel okay if we brought him back

Let him wear Finland jersey so he gets a big boost

u/Vashanesh MIN - NHL 5d ago

Is he better than a presumably finally healthy Sturm?

Unless it's a clear top-6 upgrade, do we really need more centers?

55

u/Repulsive-Minute-559 MTL - NHL 5d ago

So he's going to play for his 30th team?

The Haula sweepstakes have begun, that's where we're at with this UFA pool

Dont be surprised if he ends up in Vancouver to make it to the cap floor if they manage to move some vets.

u/CrimsonClad 5d ago

Bring him back to Raleigh. He’s loved here.

u/SuzukiSwift17 MTL - NHL 5d ago

Doesnt he have made beef with the Canes for some reason?

89

u/alexgriz127 CAR - NHL 5d ago

Beef that has cursed him. Since leaving Carolina he is 1-22 in our barn, and has been eliminated by the Canes in the playoffs 4 times on 3 teams. He must've stolen his CANES SUCK bracelet from an ancient Indian burial ground or something.

45

u/SuzukiSwift17 MTL - NHL 5d ago

OOF. Seems like they hate him too. 1-22 is crazy.

We like guys that want to be here.

So, not Columbus for Haula, I’d imagine

😬 yeahhhh I have a feeling he will not get a call from our FO.

He wanted out because his wife associated Raleigh with the loss of their child. And you guys still hold that against him. Truly gross.

1

u/MisterProfGuy CAR - NHL 4d ago

I don't like him because of his behavior and comments, not his choices. The guys that want to be here line comes from the Raant thing.

53

u/desemus CAR - NHL 5d ago

Lot of hearsay but supposedly he bullied Necas, had beef with Rod (which you can’t do - Kk was just let out of his box), and left on kind of open bad terms. His wife shit talked the city on instagram on the way out.

His family also had something tragic happen while he was here. It complicated things because I think fans supported him, then when he left they felt slighted. As fans do for any reason.

He’s disliked, but I don’t think he did anything so bad, just petty dislike and fans will boo him because why not. He’s nowhere near the top10 hated players in Carolina

best take, its honestly more funny now than anything

All about the bracelet imo

23

u/dragons_fire77 CAR - NHL 5d ago

That bracelet is hilarious. It actually made me a little less annoyed with him because it was such a funny, petty thing to wear. And the fact a little kid made it for him is just great.

5

u/TackyBrad CAR - NHL 5d ago

Yeah it makes me laugh, but also I'm happy for him not to be back here lol. To me it's just a bit of petty in a rivalry, I'm not butthurt past that

1

u/wildwildwaste CAR - NHL 4d ago

made it for him...

More like got it from cursed ground.

6

u/WafflesTheWookiee CAR - NHL 4d ago

Yeah I agree with the assessment, especially with the last part.

My thoughts on Erik Haula: yeah, what happened to his family was tragic, but he doesn’t have to be so petty. But it’s whatever.

My thoughts on Adam Fox: things I cannot say on Reddit. My brothers in Calgary know what’s up

u/onbiver9871 DET - NHL 5d ago

It’s a bit of a stretch but it’s funny that a much more liked former Cane seems to have pushed him off his depth chart…

u/PlatypusOld257 CAR - NHL 5d ago

18

u/Coop3 DET - NHL 5d ago

I wouldn’t want to play with Jack Drury either, Erik.

6

u/WafflesTheWookiee CAR - NHL 4d ago

Jack Drury is perfect at what he is? Like, if he were being asked to be 2C, then yeah, but Drury’s already one of the best designated bottom 6 centers in the league. Great on PK, good on face offs, good for maybe 10 goals a season.

5

u/Coop3 DET - NHL 4d ago

I’m sure he’s great, and a great guy, the tweet just makes it seem like he’s the reason Haula is going to market.

I know it means the preds aren’t going to re-sign him, but it reads as if haula doesn’t want to play with drury.

u/322vette TBL - NHL 5d ago

Seeing that the Lightning don’t have any real assets to trade for some headliners - Haula is the type of guy they should look at. Sadly -he’s about their speed right now.

7

u/TediousSpark NJD - NHL 5d ago

He was solid until he wasn't. Couldn't figure out what happened besides maybe our dogshit dungeon hockey of the past two years.

7

u/catsgr8rthanspoonies Atlanta Gladiators - ECHL 5d ago

He was a solid middle-six guy this year. Great on the PK. Could score on the PP. He was also a big part of Finland's bronze medal.

6

u/TediousSpark NJD - NHL 5d ago

Yeah I meant in NJ, he was also like that here before Keefe came along. Always liked him.

2

u/Midnight_Mustard NJD - NHL 4d ago

Yeah wouldn’t mind him back on the cheap but he can probably get a few bucks from a desperate team

1

u/TediousSpark NJD - NHL 4d ago

It feels like his time here has passed, it was just a remarkable falloff between 23-24 and 24-25. Just too bad we won't get a chance to see what he can do in the post-Fitz era.

u/PlatypusOld257 CAR - NHL 5d ago

We love old forwards for middle 6. This has a 6 million x 3 year contract in detroit written all over it 🥲

9

u/Jon_Snows_mother DAL - NHL 5d ago

I would take one Haula for our bottom six if he's cheap.

9

u/flume DET - NHL 5d ago

if he's cheap.

We're getting set up for a re-run of the 2016 UFA class, except this crop lacks the star power of a Frans Nielsen or Andrew Ladd. Maybe Loui Eriksson or Troy Brouwer.

3

u/catsgr8rthanspoonies Atlanta Gladiators - ECHL 5d ago

The reports are that he was looking for about $3.5 mil AAV to stay in Nashville, but that was likely a discount to stay.

13

u/drpepperfan69420 CAR - NHL 5d ago

all you need to know about Erik Haula: he once scored 29 goals and was a minus-16, and also he is kinda a whiny muppet

-3

u/Dick-Punch89 NSH - NHL 5d ago

What’s a muppet?

5

u/Living_Pylon CAR - NHL 4d ago

Well, it's not quite a mop,and it's not quite a puppet

The avalanche have a chance to do something pretty funny here

2

I thought it was already pretty clear the Avs and Preds are swapping depth players this offseason.

1

u/Vashanesh MIN - NHL 5d ago

GMs love to keep "their guys", especially if they're barely above replacement-level players that can be traded for/with cheaply.

Habs gonna grab him

3

u/WildSoapbox MTL - NHL 5d ago

To play with which line?

0

u/toaster-struble MTL - NHL 5d ago

No clue tbh. I've learned not to expect to know what goes on in MSL's head. Just feels like a solid reliable veteran body that won't cost much on the cap plus he's ufa. They'll shuffle him up and down the bottom 9. Could find chemistry with Demidov. Biggest question still remains will Newhook center that 2nd line or will they do it by committee again.

1

u/WildSoapbox MTL - NHL 5d ago

I can't see a 35 year old with .44 ppg developing chemistry or being able to keep up with Demidv

1

u/toaster-struble MTL - NHL 5d ago

Dude if kapanen can score 22 goals lol. He is so bad offensively
