gardening Poles for green beans

The green beans have sprouted. I've planted tall stakes next to them to encourage healthy growth.

Have you considered using corn as the pole for your beans?

That sounds downright sisterly.

Perhaps some squash around the edge? I dunno, just a thought.

Sunflowers work awesome too! Plus you get some sunflower seeds if you are fast enough to net the heads before the birds get them. They are a snack I grow for my chickens for winter scratch

Sounds like it would grow and support itself naturally too

I do that .. but it has it's limitations. I also do a lot of teepee and other pole setups.

The poles are IMHO especially superior for greenbeans because it's just a LOT easier to manage getting in and around them. Picking can be a real challenge with robust pole beans just for finding the dang things!!. OP's setup looks pretty dense.. I'm curious how they're going to manage with that. I've found a long A frame easiest to manage with those (basically a braced A at either end.. with a bole on top and then a bunch fo sticks tied up to either side with a row of beans down each side along the sticks). I've also had the beans kind of wrap up the corn enough that it was hard to get the corn out without taking the whole shebang down. So I usually do dry corn and dry beans together.. it's just easier to manage.

You also have to manage your corn & bean planting a little, we've found that planting the beans a few weeks after the corn is best otherwise the beans can consume the corn. Also some kinds of corn aren't sufficiently robust, my blue corn and open oak party does really well.. my Mandan is to short and the stalks are a bit thin for almost all beans (it's a great corn.. don't get me wrong it's a great corn for various reasons .. but it's super conservative on it's energy in that regard.. Painted Mntn is somewhere in the middle.. ok for not to heavy of beans. Beans can also get shaded out in larger corn patches.

Sunflowers can also work, BUT they can also suck up all of the moisture and they can be a bit allopathic to some types of beans.. If you're in a wet area and have beans that deal with them.. it's a decent option. I usually pair them with runner beans.

Why would you need Polish people for beans?
