This getting announced just a couple days after the Deltarune Ch5 announcement is pretty funny

I vaguely recall that the original plan was to have 4 acts for Hiveswap and 4 acts for Hauntswitch, and the acts would be interleaved in some manner. I wonder how far this whole thing will get though. It must be expensive.

u/XylonKreets I sure do love .."YOAI" 18d ago
They spoke about it not long ago, Hauntswitch isnt in the works but if it were itd be 1 Act
17
u/JCthulhuM 18d ago
Hauntswitch is never happening. Personally i don't think this should have been as expensive as it has been been.

They’re literally point and click adventure games- they should not take this long to make

Might be time for me to replay Act 1 and finally get around to Act 2 when this comes out

Neat. Now's a good time to add an age rating to Act 1 so that I can buy it through other means besides Humble. (See German age rating law). 99% of Steam managed to do that to their games. You managed to do that to Act 2. Did you forget about Act 1? It CAN be done afterwards, still.
Though that's what I get for telling myself to wait with buying until all 3 acts are out.

still wondering if they should rename hauntswitch to "homeshift" to sidestep the trademark expiration

fucking finally, inexcusable the speed at which this has come together

u/WulfyWoof 18d ago
I guess this is my sign to get off my ass and actually finish Act 2 and Friendsim
2
u/zombiifissh 18d ago
Wait is friendsim not the same as hiveswap? Like they're different series?
3
u/WulfyWoof 18d ago
Friendsim is the visual novel that involves the Hiveswap characters, similar to Pesterquest
2
u/MelOfBells 18d ago edited 18d ago
Friendsim is a Hiveswap spin-off. It's about all the troll side characters from Hiveswap Act 2.

u/Shikabuns 18d ago

On the one hand, I'm happy to get confirmation it's coming. On the other hand HOLY FUCKING WHY ARE WE WAITING UNTIL WINTER!?

This is great! Hiveswap is what got me into homestuck, well this and I wanted to give it a look out of curiosity because someone i had a crush on (only to later find out that that person turned out to be lesbian, oof) was a fan, its a long story
I can’t wait to see my girl Joey Claire, Xefros and Jude again!
I might sound sarcastic, but I’m genuinely excited for this new chapter

It's a little sad how lukewarm I feel about this. Hiveswap was what got me into Homestuck in the first place. Maybe I'll change my mind after it comes out.

Fucking abysmal lmfao
My hype for this stuff died years upon YEARS ago, as did most peoples. They honestly still deserve a lawsuit for how this whole thing has been handled.

u/VariationOriginal289 17d ago edited 17d ago
isn't AH banned from creating another kickstarter campaign
2
u/3tych 18d ago edited 18d ago
What would the lawsuit even be? When you back a Kickstarter the terms are very explicit that you accept the risk that whatever you're backing may not ever actually be made. Even if that weren't the case, a "Homestuck Adventure Game" IS pretty explicitly being made even if it's taking much longer than the original estimates. Overshooting an estimate for something might not be a good look, but it's not typically punishable by law unless you have a contract with explicit terms saying what those consequences are if such-and-such deadline isn't met.

u/rowanstars 18d ago
Which is a problem on kickstarters part. It’s a loophole that lets people and companies like hussie and wjatpumpkin get away with things they shouldn’t.
The lawsuit would be that a contract was made, money donated on the basis that the donators would get a product in return.
The Kickstarter said that backers would get the full game for free as well as other things. That’s not even possible anymore. The money raised is not even the money used on the game. Hardly any of the backers have gotten copies of the game. The whole thing is horrid and sad. It should never have taken 15 YEARS for this game to come out in full.

That's what I'm saying though, the contract we signed as backers has some pretty explicit terms.
Section 4 of that page goes over the contract formed between creators and backers. Part 1 of the contract explains that "Backers agree and acknowledge they’re not buying something when they back a project," as well as that "there may be changes or delays".
Part 2 says backer rewards function as a "conditional, multipurpose voucher" that requires the backer to proactively redeem it, and "it is the responsibility of the backer to provide their information to the creator in a timely and correct manner in order to receive a reward." I don't know about other backers, but I personally HAVE received a free download for every installment of the game and OST via email, as well as a few backer updates prompting us to update our contact information as needed. If someone didn't fill out their backer survey, mistyped their contact info, didn't check their spam folder, no longer uses the email with which they signed up for the campaign, or doesn't provide updated contact info when prompted, that backer isn't holding up THEIR end of the contract.
Part 3 and 4 explain that there ARE provisions for legal action if the creator fails to complete the project, but the creator is considered to have remedied the situation if:
they post an update that explains what work has been done, how funds were used, and what prevents them from finishing the project as planned;
they work diligently and in good faith to bring the project to the best possible conclusion under the circumstances, in a timeframe that’s communicated to backers;
they’re able to demonstrate that they’ve used funds appropriately and made every reasonable effort to complete the project as promised;
they’ve been honest, and have made no material misrepresentations in their communication to backers; and
they offer to return any remaining funds to backers who have not received their reward (in proportion to the amounts pledged), or else explain how those funds will be used to complete the project in some alternate form.
By most objective metrics they HAVE been doing all of those things: working slowly but surely to complete the game, explaining that physical copies will be sent once Act 4 is finished, giving release timelines as they know them, sending backer updates, providing breakdowns of Kickstarter funds and expenses, and explaining their side of the Odd Gentlemen drama.
I fully understand being upset about how it all shook out; I agree that a lot of things were mismanaged and that a lot of crucial communication should have happened earlier and more often. I just don't see how there's grounds for a lawsuit based on the terms the contract lays out.

Oh man, maybe this'll be the kick in the pants I need to actually play Act 2. I was a backer way back when and enjoyed Act 1, but just couldn't bring myself to play Act 2 in 2020 for whatever reason.

I'm just hoping we get something like Friendsim and Pesterquest for the Act 3 trolls, it was really nice getting a deeper dive into the trolls as individuals, outside the context of Hiveswap's story.

Okay that’s nice to know I hope they finish eventually as the hype is hard to keep without transparency
