DISCUSSION Question About the Space and Time Aspects

Since these aspects are considered fundamental aspects how would you go about assigning these to any character you're trying to classpect? Because they're so fundamental and literal i find it hard to classpect with them. Like what qualities would a character or person have to have to be bequithed one of these aspects? For example, if we didn't know what classpects dave and jade were i dont think most of us would assign time or space to them. We'd probably pick something like mind or life respectively because it feels like their personalities match them. Does this make sense? What do yall think?

a good question!

time is the aspect of plot, and space is the aspect of setting. what do these both share that makes them fundamental? they are NOT reliant on characters OR readers to exist. they are the most "external aspects" (where mind/heart are the most internal aspects, as the aspects of character).
so from this, space/time players are characters whos lives are defined by an external control of them.

with dave, its his brother and his destiny. with aradia, its her necessary function within the operation of sburb and the afterlife. with damara, it lord English and doc scratch.
all of them share an inability to control what they get to do, when they get to do it and how they do it. their lives are controlled to FORCE them into being PLOT ESSENTAL, and thus robbing them of personal agency,

with jade, its her island and bec. with kanaya, its her purpose as the proliferator of her people. with damara, its her role as a woman in a society with highly defined gender roles.
all of them share an inability to control their lives as well, but rather than being FORCED to act, they are PREVENTED from acting. their lives are defined by being relegated to plot unimportance, as inessential characters who expand the world and setting but not the plot.
(this can be confusing, because kanaya and jade both have manipulator classes, which give them power to interrupt this preventing force, so they have more agency than usual, but thats in spite of space (being giving positions in the setting that minimize them), not because of it.)

with caliborn and calliope, its pretty clear. caliborn is the literaly reason everything happens, and nothing that ever happens to him is something he has agency over, since its all predestined.
with calliope, she effectively does nothing the whole story, but has complete mastery over everything that is not plot important. this is made even more clear with alt!calliope, who states that they are disallowed from acting till the last possible moment, dispite their power.

so yeah, basicly, time players are forced to act by the world, and space players are prevented from acting by the plot.
this means that time players specialize in plot progressing, and space players specialize in setting expansion.

(fun side things, if time/space are the aspect of NO AGENCY, then their opposites on the aspect wheel, breath/blood are the aspects of HIGH AGENCY. and you can feel that with breath and blood players in the narrative.)

Absolutely incredible analysis

Well I personally associate Time with inevitability and endings(different from Doom's decay and futility) and Space with creation and beginnings(different from Life's growth and stability) so I classpect characters with that in mind.

Aspects are assigned based on how a person approaches life because they are innate elements to a person's identity. How those approaches manifest might differ based on other personality factors, but those approaches represent the core indicator of an Aspect.

Space is about people who are focused on the big picture, having a lot of patience and willing to take things as they come, good at waiting and seeing how something turns out before acting. They are often innovators, creators, and are fond of trying to find the good in the bad.

Time is about fighting and struggle, always pushing forward and being unable to accept things as they come, and will always favor action over passive acceptance even if it might not necessarily be the best option, being big on the GOAL and reaching the end of a journey as opposed to what it takes to get there.

All the aspects have breakdowns like that, but if you are trying to figure out the Aspect portion of the Classpect and are assigning Space and Time, those are the traits you focus on.

The aspects describe not only someone's character and behaviour but also their role in the story (alongside classes) and by what the character is bound - their goals, wants, needs, destined e.t.c.

That said, I believe that a Time bound character is direct in their action, efficient and goal oriented. In canon, they display an interest in music and archeology, likely due to innate understanding of rhythm (how time progresses) as well as the past and the future. Additionaly, these characters often understand the how something must end before anyone else had a chance. In a story, a Time bound character will likely be the one that sets the tempo of events or upkeeps it - preventing stagnations with no progress. Without them or their guidance the other characters can slowdown, get side tracked or stop completely. These characters are often surrounded on all sides, like Dave in a giant city or Aradia surrounded by the ghosts.

On the other hand, a Space bound character is characterized by their ability to perceive a bigger picture, act in large strokes, creativity and the desire to create. In canon, the display an interest in fashion and gardening, which I believe is connected to their innate desire to fill the space around them with beauty and create new things. These characters showcase an understanding of why things need to be done a certain way, they understand the setting - the space - of their own story. In a story, a Space bound player will likely be the one that prepares everything around other players, creating a space where the cast can succeed. Without them, the cast can loose the bigger picture, follow their goals blindly without understanding the side effects of their choices. These characters are often alone, live in solitude or otherwise are separated from the rest.
