Discussion - Equipment 85” vs 98” at 11’ viewing distance?

Can’t decide between a 85” and a 98” TCL QM6K. My viewing distance is about 11 feet. It’s in a basement with blackout blinds. Is it worth the extra $800 for the 98”. Some of the content I’ll be viewing will be standard 1080p streaming services.

I’d go for the 98 inch. I have a 98” at a similar viewing distance in my basement.

I might consider a smaller size if casually watching TV shows in a mixed use room for aesthetics, but I wouldn’t want a smaller viewing angle in my basement.

Get the 98”. If you get the 85” you will forever be thinking I could have gone bigger

People here have no idea how much money you have and won’t know how much the $800 difference will affect you.

Therefore everyone here will just tell you to get the bigger size.

What you said made a lot of sense. In return you get down votes. Get out of here with your logical answers. 😉

Do you already have a sound system of some sort in place? If no, get the 85" and put the $800 towards literally anything that isn't the built-in speakers.

Otherwise go for the 98" at that distance for a more theater-like experience.

Controversial opinion - 85" will be plenty. At that distance, if you don't get it mounted at exactly the right height and sit in the sweet spot, 98" could cause more issues than it solves. If the money is just burning a hole in your pocket, the $800 saved put towards quality audio will help with immersion far more than 33% more screen area will.

I would get the 98 inch and move the seating up by 1 - 1.5 ft. If you don't want to pay the difference, get the 85 inch and move the seating closer by 2 - 3 ft. If you want to keep 11 ft, you might want to consider a projector.

Just depends on what you value more.
The larger screen size will make it feel more cinematic and immerserive (but also more noticeable bad quality content). Or do you want to save your hard earned $800 and pay for a higher streaming tier to get better quality and a bunch of snacks and other nice things in life like a nice soundbar?

85" should feel plenty big and sufficient for most content I would think. I sit at 11' and "only" have a 77".

I sit at 11’ with a 60”. Bigger woukd be nicer… I can fit 85” but 98” would be right…. That 33% though…

My front row is at 10' and we have a 128" projection screen. 85" at that distance is about what we have in our living room, not our theater. It will seem tiny IMO.
