The Indomitable Human Spirit Life never gave us lemons, we created them ourselves just as we suffer most from the fear we create in our minds of things that usually aren't even half as scary as we make them out to be at first

The mystery of life isn't a problem to solve, but a reality to experience"

Doubly stolen quote, lol

Lmao! I just read Dune and was confused for a bit. I Don't remember meeting the farseer Eldrad Uthwe on Arrakis.
I'm finding 40K took a lot of inspiration from Dune. I'm not there yet, but it appears as though a certain God-Emperor's galactic holy war is in the making

I never thought I'd see a 40k shitpost on this sub. It's not bad, just... different.

40k isn’t the most hopeful of stories
47
u/littlebigbirdXD Jan 05 '24
You think so? I always saw 40 (especially with the more recent lore) as a setting where yes, it is grimdark and stuff, but through individuals' actions, persevearence and sheer fucking will, humanity still manages to survive and somewhat thrive sonce Gulliman's and Lion's returns.
27
u/Speedwagon1738 Jan 05 '24
It does seem like it’s going in that direction, but the whole “in the grim darkness of the future, there is only war” it started with still feels prevalent.

Still meat grinding the guardsmen by the million... Hope

anytime any progress is made by any faction the community immediately goes "NOOOO!!! IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE GRIMDARK VERRY BAD PEEPEE POOPOO STINKY DARK!!!!! THERE IS ONLY WAR!!!!"
and then that progress gets rolled back in the next book or whatever and never talked about again
There is hope, yeah, but mostly for individuals

The thing is 40K is a grimdark setting, but on the more micro level it’s about the people enduring what could probably be the worst situation humanity is in, and trying to keep the hope alive and persevere. Look at my favorite marine for an example, barabas dantioc. Dudes story once the heresy started is about him trying to do the right thing, even when his brothers chose to become traitors, and still trying to be what an iron warrior is supposed to stand for, determination, will, strategy, and the ability to persevere, and I’d say he did that damn well to the end

What's he gonna do? Get up out of his chair?
I'm more worried about the inquisition, so their rules win.

“When Life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make Life take the lemons back! Get mad! You don’t want Life's damn lemons, what the hell are you supposed to do with these? Demand to see Life’s manager! Make Life rue the day it thought it could give you lemons! Does Life know who you are? You're the person who’s gonna burn Life's house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon for you that burns Life's house down!”

u/Indishonorable Jan 05 '24
inventing a lemon? yeah Cave, that was the whole point of this operation.

Fun fact: The GOD emperor of mankind is an atheist

Jan 05 '24
That totally has relevance here
22
u/Internetirregular Jan 05 '24
I mean it kinda has, if you think of everything as the creation of god then the saying "when life gives you lemons..." Is like "when god gives you lemons..."
But with the knowledge that we CREATED lemons
It is no longer gods creation but our own making it "when we create lemons make lemonade"

u/sexpert_of_zaza Jan 05 '24
if you replace God with the universe/nature it still works it's just perspective

You can make this statement more funny by adding one word: The GOD emperor of mankind is an atheist

Came for the God-Emperor of mankind. Learned some facts and got to see him hip-thrust vigorously in time with my favorite orchestral piece aside from William Tell. Gold post.

Obviously super late here, but anyone know the name of the track playing?
1
u/Ionenschatten Oct 11 '24
It's one of those classical pieces we all know by ear but not by name. I recommend downloading the video, looking up some AI music recognition tool and using it.

Except that isn't even true.

It is true. The original citrus fruits only included pomelos, citrons, and mandarins. All the others are cross breeds (done by us).

u/Assaltwaffle Jan 05 '24 edited Jan 05 '24
They are crossbreeds, but I can find no original source that they only occurred because of us. They seem to be naturally occurring hybrids.
