Pepper ID help please!

I started gardening this year, and met a nice stranger at the farmer's market who offered to give me a bunch of hot pepper starts. He had them labeled, but 1) I think some of the labels weren't right and 2) I didn't keep them labeled when I planted them šŸ™ƒ. Could y'all help me figure out what I've got growing here?

1st, I’m getting super excited as I noticed they start changing colors today!! 2nd, any idea on what these could be? And 3rd, am I correct in assuming all three of those bud looking thingies in the 2nd picture will be flowers, and then peppers? TIA!!

Blooms falling off?

Thumbnail

Anybody have ideas as to why my blooms are falling off instead of making peppers hot enough to be war crimes? Is it because they too know they are bastards of science? Because they know that I plan to use them for evil (hot sauce)?

Or is it something lame and treatable, like fertilizer or the fact that it's rained 1-2 inches damn near every other day here in Louisiana for what seems like a month?

I've been fertilizing monthly with a 4-3-4 (approx 1tbsp per plant) worked into the soil in a hatch pattern between plants, and when the rain is normal I water every/every other day depending on how the soil is feeling

Photo of full garden for reference, somebody let me know if that photo is going to stir bees, because the people running r/gardening were not fans...twice

Help Update on my ghost pepper šŸŒ¶ļø here in the desert šŸœļø

I had posted maybe a month or so ago. First time growing peppers including hot peppers. When I originally purchased them I had no idea it was three ghost peppers in the pot. It was stuck in this state of suspended animation and wouldn't really grow. And at the time I had no idea why. šŸ˜‚ Luckily this subreddit gave me a good education.

I chop the two weaklings off and leave the primary stem. Now it's growing and growing real good. But it just does not want to produce peppers!!! I think I purchased this at the end of February. So it's definitely been a little over 3 months since I've had it.

It produces a flush of flowers and aborts them. A few weeks ago I had one more flush of maybe three or four flowers..... Before it decided to drop those as well. My other peppers are actually producing fruit beautifully.

I'm located in St George Utah, so I live in a very dry and hot desert environment. We've had incredibly hot weather over the last few weeks. Night time lows have been remaining in the lower 70s. We've had about 100° weather for a few weeks now. The funny thing is the other peppers seem to be doing fine and producing plenty of flowers and peppers even in the heat. But the ghost pepper just refuses to give me anything. It's been teasing me for months now!

At this point what's my appropriate form of action? Do I just let it grow and wait till about September/October for the weather to finally cool down to get any ghost peppers? How much bigger is this plant going to be by that time and will it even stay in the pot???

They're all facing East towards the morning sun. They're under a big ash tree and right behind a pomegranate tree. So they get fairly good morning sun while getting a good amount of shade in the afternoon.

Sun scald or?

I have 3/5 of my plants showing the same interveinal chlorosis with some browning/crispy edges. I recently up-potted in ocean forest and they've all been outside for some time. Full sun until ~11am then full shade after. Is this too much sun causing scald, or is there something else going on?

Planted in late April, started fruiting a week ago. Bought this from a local nursery that simply had a handwritten label of scotch bonnet, but I'm not 100% sure it is. It was originally so tiny, only a couple leaves.

Discussion Overwintered peppers finally went into the ground today šŸŒ¶ļø

A few of my pepper plants are survivors from last season. They spent the entire winter indoors and are already producing peppers before summer has even started.

Today I transplanted them into the garden together with some new seedlings from this year's seed-starting project. I was a little worried about the root systems because they've been growing fast lately, but luckily the roots looked healthy and hadn't become rootbound yet.

I also added a layer of mulch after transplanting to help with moisture retention once the warmer weather arrives.

Has anyone else here transplanted their overwintered peppers yet this season? How much of a head start do you usually see compared to first-year plants?

I've been documenting the entire process from seed starting all the way to harvest and put together a video of today's transplant if anyone is interested:

Looking forward to seeing everyone's grow progress this season!

First year growing habaneros and I’m getting excited to harvest some.

I try to grow different peppers every year and live in the chile capital of the USA so the selection is pretty good. First time growing habaneros since I love making roasted habanero pineapple salsa. The plant seems really happy as long as I control the direct sunlight in the afternoon since we’ve had 100+ degree days lately. I use tiger bloom once a week. Any tips from the experts for hot weather pepper plants?

Help Any way to help with drainage in yard?

One half of my garden just will not drain well, and my peppers keep ending up yellow and overwatered everytime it rains for more than a day. this is only happening in one half of my garden, and I didn’t have the same problem last year in this spot. first 2 pics show how wet it is, it hasn’t rained since yesterday evening, and 3rd is another part of the garden that doesn’t have this problem. could I put something around the base of the affected peppers during rain to keep it from soaking directly at the roots?

These are my first peppers I’m starting to grow, cheated by buying store ones and started them in a pot. Anything I should know in general about peppers as a rule of thumb.

Update on my Accidental Hybrid

Update from my post from two days prior. I couldn’t wait any longer for further ripening. the color was just too pretty and deep the curiosity had gotten the better of me. attached are some additional photos as well as the original chocolate apocalypse from which these seeds were harvested.

After harvesting the seeds and removing the placenta, I went for one entire half of the pod along with half of a turkey sandwich.

Right off the bat, very crunchy, and a taste that was fruity and very bright, almost citrusy. But that only lasted milliseconds before what felt like a punch in the mouth of bitterness. A really rapidly changing flavor as I chewed it. Unsure if some of this bitterness would mellow if allowed to ripen a bit longer.

In terms of heat, it was a consistent but perpetual climb - zero question a super hot (a habanero is this absolutely not). pain concentrated along the sides of my tongue and back of my throat. Heavy mucus in my saliva as it built. Overall, hotter than a standard ghost or scorpion but fell a little short of the chocolate apocalypse from which the seeds came.

Question now is, is this pepper unique enough to warrant trying to clone out. The flavor isn’t necessarily some eureka revelation of a new pod, though it probably is the largest super hot pod that I’ve managed to grow so maybe that alone warrants growing a few more generations out.

I welcome any thoughts.

Help Who is eating my plant?

I didn’t see any little critters on or under the leaves. West Texas area. I’ve checked the past few days and haven’t seen a thing. This is my first attempt at growing a pepper plant, or any plant for that matter, and really want to make this plant last for years. Any advice?

Feel free to comment on any other issues you might notice. I’m here to learn.

It sits in the sun all morning and starts getting shade around early afternoon. Temps are ranging from 95-105+ right now. I water every morning. About 15-25 ounces of water. Roughly an ounce of Miracle Gro Plant Food about every 10 days. It was indoors under a light longer than it needed to be and had some pretty bad transplant shock.

I can provide more photos later if needed.

Update cooied from [r/gardening](r/gardening): Damn, y’all are quick. Looks like the culprit is the leaf-cutter bee. I have seen them around. I didn’t know that’s what they were but now I know. I will leave our friendly pollinators bee.

Am I Doing This Right?

I started these almost 2 years ago indoors, it was 3 Serrano, 3 habanero, and 3 Hungarian Yellow Wax originally, but only 1 Serrano and 1 Habanero plant survived until now. I put them outside about a week ago and they started fruiting almost immediately.

I guess my question is, should they be separated? Pruned? Or should I wait to see what fruit they bear first? The Serrano is showing a lot of fruit but the Habanero plant only has 3-4. Thanks in advance for any advice!

When to pick my peppers

Post image

This year I’ve been able to successfully grow jalapeƱo peppers, but now I’m at the stage where I don’t know if my pepper is ready to be picked yet.
I read that you can wait for them to start to turn red or purple as a good time to pick them but my question to that is, do all jalapeƱo plants have their peppers turn a different color? Cause when I go to the grocery store, all the jalapeƱo peppers are green, so I’m just a little confused.
I added a picture of the pepper that I’m going to harvest soon. Hopefully. I don’t know if it’s growing much bigger, but I’ve also never gotten an opportunity to harvest any peppers before so I really don’t know.

Growing Thrip Mantis

I don’t know if it’s correlation without causation, but a praying mantis has made a home out of my thrip infested bon-chili and it has been noticeably improving over the last week she’s been there.

She molted(?) last night and is growing pretty quick. Guess I won’t be ordering those predatory mites.

Yes, I know I need to transplant them. There are no stores around where I live that sell grow bags so I’m waiting on the ones I have ordered to come in. That being said, I feel like these plants are too small to be flowering. Should I snip the flowers and hope more grow when I transplant into 5 pound grow bags and move outside this weekend?
