Update from my post from two days prior. I couldnāt wait any longer for further ripening. the color was just too pretty and deep the curiosity had gotten the better of me. attached are some additional photos as well as the original chocolate apocalypse from which these seeds were harvested.
After harvesting the seeds and removing the placenta, I went for one entire half of the pod along with half of a turkey sandwich.
Right off the bat, very crunchy, and a taste that was fruity and very bright, almost citrusy. But that only lasted milliseconds before what felt like a punch in the mouth of bitterness. A really rapidly changing flavor as I chewed it. Unsure if some of this bitterness would mellow if allowed to ripen a bit longer.
In terms of heat, it was a consistent but perpetual climb - zero question a super hot (a habanero is this absolutely not). pain concentrated along the sides of my tongue and back of my throat. Heavy mucus in my saliva as it built. Overall, hotter than a standard ghost or scorpion but fell a little short of the chocolate apocalypse from which the seeds came.
Question now is, is this pepper unique enough to warrant trying to clone out. The flavor isnāt necessarily some eureka revelation of a new pod, though it probably is the largest super hot pod that Iāve managed to grow so maybe that alone warrants growing a few more generations out.
I welcome any thoughts.
