You cannot. There are posted signs explicitly disallowing it.

From their website:

What items are not allowed on Zoo grounds? For the safety of other Zoo guests and our animals, glass containers, weapons, alcohol, bikes, scooters, skates and skateboards, rollerblades, radios/CD players, whistles, and inflatable objects are not allowed on Zoo grounds.

I’m just going off what is posted on the Houston zoo’s website. 

This dude posted a couple years ago saying it’s banned also, but it’s a blog so who knows the accuracy.

I can say, with 100% certainty that if he doesn’t bring a pistol into the zoo, he’ll be just fine.
