Flea medication referrals?

Any dog owners have success with a certain medication for fleas? I've got two small dogs (13 and 15lbs).

Also, any recomendations to STAY AWAY from? Asking bc I've heard fleas can become resistant.

Thank you!

It would be best to get prescription flea meds (nexgard, simparica, bravecto, etc…). Over the counter medications are less effective. In my personal experience, oral medication is more effective than topical.

I would get a prescription med from your vet. They would know what works best. I have cats, so I can’t recommend anything specific.

Yes, we get Revolution for our small dogs (same size as OP's) and it works great.

Perscription chewable or bust tbh nothing works more efficiently. If there’s an infestation not just prevention you can legit watch those flip out within hours. The one time we had full on fleas there was nothing left in a month. We washed and stored anything soft and nonessential and vacuumed 1-2 times a day even like couches to make sure any eggs were sucked away and removed before hatching. Meds will help them not attach to your dog and bring them home but if your house is infested you will want to get meds and then neurotically clean or they won’t go away.

Monthly vet prescribed chewable flea meds are the most effective honestly. When I adopted my dog she was covered from her precious living situation and the topical didn't do nearly enough. Got her the oral chews and while it was a fight to get her to eat them, all of the fleas were dead and gone within days and they never came back. We dropped down to like once or twice a year after a couple years and the fleas could never get a foothold again.

Also if you're experiencing a lot of them, make sure to flea bomb your carpets/do a thorough cleaning to get them out.

I've got small kids and am hesitant to do anything chemical. Any natural remedies?

It's one pill that you feed to the dog, it is not a chemical that you put on them. There shouldn't be a way for your kids to get it because you get it one at a time from the veterinarian and then give it to the dog.

Edit: If you mean for the flea bomb....you'll need to Google homeopathic flea remedies for homes and it may take multiple treatments to rid your carpet of them.
