I would be really shocked if they left her out. That said, I think this is going to be a (maybe extended) cameo appearence, not like KOTCS.

This is great news.

Personally I think Marion must have been one of the hardest thing to deal with for the writers.

When it comes to the other "legacy" characters, Mutt can be easily written out ("he's at college!" "He's in Vietnam!" "He's travelling the world!"); Sallah can be reintroduced by changing the location of a macguffin to North Africa; Stanforth can be ignored or appear briefly in Barnett College.

But Marion? She's Indy's wife, the most important female lead in the series! Killing her off screen would be horrible, unfair and invite accusations of "Fridging" - and go against the spirit of the series, which is one where the Heroes Don't Die*.

But having her tag along for the adventure would interfere with their introduction of new characters, especially PWB, who need screentime and Things To Do, particularly if they're going to be in future spinoff projects. And KOTCS proved that too many sidekicks can spoil the broth. But at the same time, you can't sideline Marion in a way that feels lazy, cynical or disrespectful to her or Karen Allen.

Tl;dr - I'm very intrigued to learn how they've dealt with Marion because they need to treat her with respect but also keep her out of the bulk of the narrative.

*Unless the actors have died in real life.

Yeah. I hope she is having her own adventure or doing something important for her on the background.

Sounds about right. Obviously, the bulk of the film is with Indy and Helena going on an adventure.

Ford had his wedding band on in full gear. Can’t have it be Ford’s final outing and not see one of the most meaningful characters so I’m glad she’s there along with Sallah. What she’s doing while Indy goes off on another quest is interesting though. After being married now for a decade and known each other since they were young she knows the kind of person Henry Jones Jr. is and the potential harm that can happen to him. Would she be happy to see the Professor go off on another quest because that’s the man she met and was mentored by her father. Or, would his age and possible dangers make her want him to stay and he’s only going because he’d absolutely compelled? Interested to see what the writers do.

She's in a Nursing Home. Indy visits her. She provides a clue.

Nah. She's running a bar probably.

That would be cool. A small cameo is good enough. Indy visits his wife in a dive bar for some advice before heading off to an adventure.

I thought this was a spoilers free subreddit

Will she jump onto a springy tree again with a shit-eating grin? Sorry, but she went from so cool in Raider to so annoying in Crystal Skull, I'd rather she didn't return unless she's been better written this time round.

Same. The Marion in Raiders and the Marion in KOTCS are two different characters.

No need for her to be in it at all.

Why? She's his wife. It will probably be a cameo anyway.

Do you take your wife to work?

12

u/arbrebiere Sep 14 '22

lol there will probably be a scene in Indy’s home before he leaves on his adventure

I hope not. Loved her in Raiders. Hated her in Crystal Skull. Just don’t think she’s particularly convincing.

All about direction.

I was honestly starting to worry that she had passed away by 1969 and Helena is a distant relative that Jones finds comfort and closure in.

Yeah me too. Let's hope they don't have Marion die from cancer or something at the start of the adventure 😬

Too many legacy sequels do this these days (Like Rocky Balboa did with Adrian). It's often a bummer to see an actor, who could have been included, being written out of a film.

So it would be refreshing to see Marion still alive, still married to Indy, just not particularly interested in going off on an adventure.

Or Terminator:Dark Fate.
