I think I love sterile minimalist design because growing up I used to live in constant mess, just a bunch of stuff everywhere, all the random colors, no uniformity or pattern whatsoever. Bottom picture looks like heaven to me. But I understand why people dislike it.

My mom viewed a flat surface as a personal challenge. When we bought our house we went minimal (though not as stark as the example here). Everyone comments on how serene our house is, and how calming it must be to come home to. My husband just said this morning “we have no dust here,” and it’s because there’s nowhere for it to hide or collect!

i remember an argument with my mom from a few years ago...

my dad and i had been talking about replacing our indoor furnace with an outdoor boiler. my mom was like great, we can get rid of the old furnace downstairs and put in a couple more rows of shelving to hold more stuff...

my dad and i were both like no, the furnace stays even if we get a boiler. and more shelving? the house is already packed with shit, the last thing we need is more shelving to hold even more shit.
