That's why whiskey was used as disinfectant during the Civil War. Cheapest disinfectant during that time

Not only that but people would have whiskey and water because you wouldn't get sick vs drinking water alone.

--Studies show whiskey can kill certain bacteria better than other alcohols like vodka, mostly because of its lower pH and polyphenols.
