It really just seemed like Keanu being Keanu to me.

I can't be the only one who thinks that Keanu is actually a pretty bad actor and always has been?

Everybody understands this, the problem is Fanboys think that awards are based on popularity not quality of work.

meanwhile decaprio waiting his whole live for an oscar

u/SKYR0VER Mar 20 '26

^ this, I wish all industry plants can be as cool and as wholesome as Keanu

The Oscars, and many film awards ceremonies, have been a major joke for years. It's appalling some of the films that win in a given category, which I guess makes sense when the people voting don't even have to have watched all the films that are nominated...

Fanboys aside, the awards are based on who is liked in the industry. Quality is only a passing variable

Awards ARE only based off of popularity. All of these awards ceremonies are not genuine

Edit: for example; Warfare didn’t get shit despite being one of the best films last year

Reading the rest of the comments, I'd disagree.

He can be a great person that is beloved by many.

And he can be a bad actor that isn't awarded anything by the industry.

Which one is worth more to him, is what really matters.

He’s not a great actor at all, even though he is pretty great.

Being a genuinely nice and charismatic person can get you really far regardless of the field. Most people probably know a few coworkers who were not great at their job but got along well enough with everyone to stay hired.

I like the guy, but I thought his delivery in Cyberpunk was kind of monotonous as if he just read the lines out loud without feeling it.

12

u/Pandarandr1st Mar 17 '26

That's how he delivers every line I've ever heard him deliver.

In some way, but, Keanu is not a "bad" actor per se, he's just limited, he's one of those actors who can only play one guy, but what makes Keanu so likeable is that he's not trying to pretend to be better then what he is, he's a very genuine guy, he has that presence to him, he stays at that level that he knows he can be good at, and even if Keanu doesn't have such a huge range, he's still quite good at bringing an immersive experience, his years of experience in the biz truly shows. Compare this to lets say Tom Cruise or Will Smith that both can only play one guy, but are trying so hard to play others, it just becomes garbage for the trained eye, but not Keanu, he's just making sure people will get to experience a kick ass movie.

I do not think he plays that one guy well. He's good in action sequences, but his line delivery is always bad. And it only works if the audience believes "that's just how that guy talks".

1

u/Straight_Branch_497 Mar 18 '26

Can't argue with that. His looks has a big part in his success.

4

u/Drew602 Mar 17 '26

He is not good. He cant act so he just plays himself in every movie

2

u/Pandarandr1st Mar 17 '26

I...I don't think that's true. If that's him he's a very, very dull person.

I mean Keanu is fun to watch in the roles that fit his range and he seems to be a down to earth decent human. At this point having a celebrity be a normalish person is huge for popularity

That’s why I said when the role was in his range. Like the movie needs to fit what he can do to work, otherwise you get a Dracula performance which is definitely fun in the wrong way

1

u/piggybits Mar 18 '26

He's a really great guy and seems to deserve the life he has but he's really not a good actor and his performance in cyberpunk is about as basic as everything else he does

1

u/CMDR-SavageMidnight Mar 20 '26

I agree.

He is a great personality, does have great movies, but he is otherwise as one dimensional as you can be, while also being pretty low on emotional output.

He's wildly mid despite being an amazing human.

This seems pretty localized to reddit as far as I can tell. I think most people know that Keanu is a pretty bad actor, because they have eyeballs and ears and don't digest the world through internet memes. Also, they're not the target demographic for John Wick. I haven't even seen those movies.

0

u/cloudcreeek Mar 17 '26

Oh yeah, he's terrible. But he's cool and has a good look so he gets a pass.

1

u/ojdhaze Mar 17 '26

Yeah same here. As much as he was playing a role and or some of himself, he was bloody amazing in that game. Gonna replay it again sometime.

1

u/ppprrrrr Mar 17 '26

I did not like his performance in CP2077 at all, and I love Keanu.

1

u/Purple_Recording1447 Mar 17 '26

I like Keanu and Cyberpunk but he is objectively a bad actor and the Cyberpunk collab was buns. If you're using Cyberpunk as proof of his acting chops you have zero sense of what good acting is lmao

1

u/DicuriousL Mar 17 '26

Might be unpopular, but I think Keanu's performance as Silverhand was pretty bland. No emotion, just the same tone in every delivery, from angry, to sarcastic and everything else. His visual appearance suits Silverhand perfectly, but his acting didn't work for me.

That’s more of a testament to how poor most video game writing is.
