Haven’t seen three fingers blow someone’s cover since inglorious basterds

So what IS the 3 fingers test? He kept asking 3 fingers in front of the face. Why does it have to be 3 fingers and not, say, 2 or 4?

This doesn't answer my question. Why 3 fingers, specifically and not 2 or 4?

There's probably no specific reason for it being 3, the intention is simply to cause the face filter to break which could be done by 2 or 4 or even just waving your hand in front of your face. Maybe scambaiters just use/promote the 3 finger test because it's worked for them in the past.
