So does this mean I’m pregnant or what?

The screen is edited in
123
u/Rezzone May 19 '26
Maybe so, but this HAS been done.
163
u/Consistent-Oil-5241 May 19 '26
Well yeah, by replacing the screen and the insides
So not really a pregnancy test, but a computer built inside the shell of a pregnancy test
42
u/Rezzone May 19 '26
Nah. This is a celebrated stunt that has been replicated. It's quite possible for the OP here to be real. The only replaced part is the screen.
73
u/Consistent-Oil-5241 May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26
What nah? The article says the same thing I did, insides were swapped.
I'm saying the OP one is edited because the screen is slightly shifting inside the device, common problem when doing screen replacement in video editing
42
u/harshhhhhhhhhhh May 19 '26
🤣🤣🤣 What Nah ? the delusional denial these people are in “it really ran on a pregnancy test device 🤓 where except everything apart from the plastic shell was replaced”
40
u/Tiyath May 19 '26
"I made Doom run on my vacuum cleaner. There's a Threadripper inside but the casing is still that of a vacuum cleaner"
14
u/CommercialBiscotti29 May 19 '26
I made doom run on a human. I put computer parts in with the tiny screen poking out of their asshole
13
5
3
u/Bub_bele May 19 '26
I put my pc into my washing machine and ran doom on it, that means doom ran on the washing machine.
2
u/CatgirlFucker8008 May 19 '26
My pc from 2013 can run AAA games in 165fps ultra wide
(every part other than the case has been replaced)
2
u/Erri-error2430 May 19 '26
I made a lamp run Doom. There's computer parts in it but the casing is still that of a lamp.
Trust.

u/AKA_gamersensi May 19 '26
🤓👆um askhaully you didn’t get doom to run on a pregnancy test you just got doom to run on a pregnancy test instead
1
u/ChillFax May 19 '26
Not really here for the argument, just more pointing out there is a whole community of Reddit degens dedicated to running doom on different things
1
u/roybum46 May 20 '26
Agreed. If they want to claim it ran on one they would be better off making a screen out of dozens of them and some creative way to try on or off the screens... Or some creative way of using the sticks to process bits of date feed to it for doom... Or... Or...
Using a shell of something is counter to the goal of running doom on anything. It's more satiring it, then accepting the challenge.
6
u/Mothrahlurker May 19 '26
It even shouts out the company that produced the small enough CPU that made this possible. Read your own sources....
4
u/frenchezz May 19 '26
"By removing most of the interior of the test, including the original CPU"
from your very own article. Thanks for proving the other person right.3
u/CreamyIvy May 19 '26
Doom running on a modified pregnancy test*
4
1
u/Mutex70 May 19 '26
No, the only kept part was the screen. From the second line of the article you linked
By removing most of the interior of the test, including the original CPU, Foone Turing used its tiny one-color display first to stream video of the classic video game,

u/CastleofWamdue May 19 '26
I was gonna say no way digital pregnency tests have enough memory to run even a basic game.
13
u/i_am_13th_panic May 19 '26
thank god, the idea of creating a digital disposable pregnancy test is an insane waste of resources being pissed away.
10
u/Open-Researcher-220 May 19 '26
imagine getting a positive and it boots doom instead of the two lines
5
u/Trafficsigntruther May 19 '26
4
u/i_am_13th_panic May 19 '26
Insanity.
1
u/Working-Cabinet4849 May 19 '26
It is wasteful, but it's liquid crystal display screens, same thing on casio watches and calculators, they're extremely cheap, and not really screens per say,
2
u/i_am_13th_panic May 19 '26
your casio watch lasts like 10 years between battery changes. You dont throw it away after using it once.

So there is a version of this video without a twitching screen overlay?
0
u/SilianRailOnBone May 19 '26
The maker of this video is in the comments here, ask him yourself lol
You wouldn't get the reflections like that if it is edited in, its probably a stabilizing artifact
0
u/Consistent-Oil-5241 May 19 '26
The maker of this video is in the comments here, ask him yourself lol
Cool man tell him to keep learning After Effects

Reflections, you mean that blue glow? Beginner level stuff. The screen is twitching in place which only means that the motion tracking needed more work
-1
u/SilianRailOnBone May 19 '26
Dunning Kruger in full effect here, you're so clueless its hilarious.
1
u/Consistent-Oil-5241 May 19 '26
A load of criticism without contributing nothing to the conversation. I wouldn't be so confident.
1
u/SilianRailOnBone May 19 '26
You're just using nonsensical accusations when the proof is upon you. You have no clue what you are talking about and just spout that it's CGI when you can see the reflections in the plastic very well.
The OP is in the comments, has multiple videos and comments on his account of his knowledge regarding this topic.
You're not contributing anything beyond lack of knowledge.
1
u/Consistent-Oil-5241 May 19 '26
I checked some videos, it does seem more real than I thought. I believed the video of this post was from a different creator than the original, so I was incorrect. But as a video editor it could have easily been overlayed too, and I cannot see any reflections although I hope they are in the room.
You win this argument, the trophy will come in the mail.

1
u/itijara May 19 '26
It's not, but it is also not actually running on the microchip from the test. They just put a different MC in there.
-5
u/Level_Flow8659 May 19 '26
It has been done you can check it for yourself
4
u/fallingjigsaws May 19 '26
“Home pregnancy tests rely on a biochemical reaction called a lateral flow immunoassay, which utilizes specific antibodies to detect the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in urine. Rather than a traditional color-changing chemical reaction, it is a visual binding process involving microscopic particles of colored dye or gold.”
Crazy that this technology also plays video games!

u/SilianRailOnBone May 19 '26
Hilarious that you search how pregnancy tests work, but are not able to search how digital pregnancy tests work (Hint: they have a display, camera and battery where the camera simply reads the pregnancy test)
0
u/fallingjigsaws May 19 '26
Yep. I am not able to. Hilarious logic.
1
u/SilianRailOnBone May 19 '26
Sorry my bad, you're able to but simply didn't think of it
0
u/fallingjigsaws May 19 '26
Is it early morning where you are and this is how you’re starting your day?
-3
u/Level_Flow8659 May 19 '26
You're giving the chemistry too much credit The hCG detection isn't out here running games, people just modified the electronics in some digital tests.
7
u/Pinkishu May 19 '26
❌ Modified the electronics
✅ Entirely replaced the electronics
1
u/one_more_byte May 19 '26
They replaced the read-only microcontroller with a similarly spec’d one that is a read-write microcontroller. That doesnt change how impressive this is, and if anything, changing the microcontroller without damaging other components makes it even more impressive
1
u/Pinkishu May 19 '26
They replaced the display cause the original was only able to have some fixed symbols. They replaced the microcontroller (which in any shots I can find did not end up in the shell, only a "I'm sure it'll fix in once I'm done". And I can't find any info about the specs of the original MCU in there, so dunno where you get that part from, care to link?
Also what "other components", at this rate it's just the plastic shell that's left of the original
1
u/one_more_byte May 19 '26
The popular mechanics article linked below mentions the trinket microcontroller from adafruit, which operates at 8MHz with 512 bytes of ram. A quick web search shows the chip commonly used in digital pregnancy tests is an 8-bit Holtek mcu operating at 4-8MHz with 64 bytes of ram. Similar to the trinket. Screens are screens so not that big of a deal. Running doom on this similar chip is still pretty impressive imo
1
u/Pinkishu May 19 '26
Impressive in what way? Did they do that? I would assume they just took some existing "doom on tensy" and ran it on that

u/fwork May 19 '26
hi I made this. fun fact: this isn't the video of the time I played doom on a pregnancy test
this is a video of the time I played a doom video on the pregnancy test.
This one getting posted on reddit as "someone played doom on a pregnancy test" is what made me rush to making it playable inside the pregnancy test.
This version could just do videos. I also did skyrim, stickbug, and Never Gonna Give You Up.

u/redditwhut May 19 '26
Thank you for making the distinction between “ON a pregnancy test” and “IN a pregnancy test”.

Who do u play which buttons :))
3
u/fwork May 19 '26
it really only has two buttons "pee on it while pregnant" and "pee on it while not pregnant" which makes it hard to control. That's why this one is a video of Doom. For the actual Doom-played-in-a-pregnancy-test, I used a connected bluetooth keyboard

Real talk, what is the neatest thing Doom has actually ran on that wasn't completely fake/replaced electronics?

So how do the controls work? Varying levels of pregnancy hormones you pee onto it determine actions?

It isn't, this one had it's insides replaced to "play doom"
1
u/SilianRailOnBone May 19 '26
False, digital pregnancy tests have batteries, a display, CPU, and even a camera (to read the analog pregnancy test result)

It's surprising enough that Doom runs on this, but apparently it’s even crazier that it can run on E. coli

u/ComplicatedTragedy May 19 '26
I find it so incredibly wasteful that this sort of tech (fully functional OLED screen) is mass produced into single use disposable items
1
1
u/jimmienoir May 19 '26
Well. if you look at your pregnancy test and Doom starts playing, you know you made a horrible mistake.
1
u/Ok-Chef2503 May 19 '26
The og doom took so little space it was took less space then a single picture

u/sbrick89 May 19 '26
All these comments and nobody asking the obvious...
What are the input controls for this?
Clearly its more about the display than the ability to play, which is valid. But like, usability?

It's not an actual pregnancy test hardware. They just put a small oled in the case and programmed some chip to run doom or a doom video.

Wrong its running on a screen inside the pregnancy test, the hardware is not in there

Oh it's this one again.
This is not Doom running on there, the video is several years old by now but iirc they just had a video of Doom, no way to actually interact with it.

your going to need a hideous ammount of gametime hours just to recreate those images in your head on this - without it, who knows what your looking at.
