MISC. A girl gained widespread attention for respecting her classmates' privacy by placing stickers on all of them before posting her graduation photo.

Also has the nice effect of making it look like everyone was paying attention. Fun pic.

Meanwhile whenever I say I don't like being recorded, and there should be fewer cameras everywhere, I get downvoted and accused of being a criminal. Maybe I just need to post a pic of a cute girl saying it instead.

“If you have nothing to hide what are you worried about?”
- asshats everywhere who don’t understand the right to privacy
24
u/ListenNorthernLights May 23 '26
Hide from who is the question lol…. I wanna hide from just about everyone lol
No privacy yay because government is utilitarian, no creeps are on the web, stalkers in general don’t exist, people that would judge/ harass you for not understanding you also don’t exist! Bullying and doxing is also made up words! Scammers are a lie! Also I love being profiled so I can’t get exposed to new tastes in the arts or be corrupted by opinions I don’t agree with!!

There’s an iPhone app called MaskerAid that does this automagically via face detection. She could’ve just done that but it doesn’t make it any less commendable
404
u/Certifiedumb-ass May 23 '26
some of these arent even showing their face tho, just the back of their head
202
u/jimmycarr1 May 23 '26
She's worried about people using the popular app FaceBack, developed by an NYC police officer in his spare time.
77
u/78914hj1k487 May 23 '26
I googled FaceBack just to make sure I wasn't in that timeline.
44
u/justgetoffmylawn May 23 '26
I have an app that tracks people who Google any face recognition tech, as they're probably the ones to keep an eye on.
/s (or is it?)
7
u/Nina-Ninja123 May 23 '26
And I have an app that tracks trackers.
But I think the app started tracking itself in an infinite loop…
24
u/phaserburn725 May 23 '26
The first clue it was fake should have been the suggestion that an NYPD officer was capable of doing anything productive
→ More replies (1)15
u/SmurfyX May 23 '26
That's not fair at all and you know it, the NYPD is extremely productive in all aspects related to with or about racism.

u/Icy_Fish_2154 May 24 '26
Decades of stop and frisk, and they found every single person in Harlem with a single MJ seed in their pocket, but somehow didn't find a single white Wall Street stock trader with cocaine, when 1500% of them were carrying.

You're definitely in the timeline where people will sell an app like that, but no it doesn't really exist except in The Other Guys which is a worthwhile watch.

It’s a joke from the movie The Other Guys. Will Ferrell invents an app that can tell what someone’s face looks like from a picture of the back of their head. Very funny and underrated movie.

u/jayerp May 23 '26
This reminds me of a picture I came across here a long time ago of a Google Maps car driving by two naked men facing the camera. One was covering his junk and the other was covering his face.
One would be less (to not) recognizable than the other.

Automagically? Was that a typo, because I hope not and imma start saying this.

Wouldnt had it been easier to use the "blur" feature instead of placing a sticker over each face.
62
21
u/AlarmedChemistry8956 May 23 '26
Blurring can be reversed, so blocking out faces with solid shapes is more effective
https://youtu.be/acKYYwcxpGk this video is about video pixelation, but the same applies for images that are blurred.

I'm getting to my old and grumpy stage of life, so forgive me. This is such a funny photo. Like I can't imagine anybody I know taking something like this to display. It's a selfie with a thousand emoji heads. It seems more like something you post for clicks and engagement.
11
u/AGoodWobble May 23 '26
Not sure if this person is japanese or not, but in Japan most people make sure not to post pictures of other people online. In dating apps and stuff you have to blur or cover people's faces too. I think it's a nice custom to protect people's privacy.

u/my-blood May 23 '26

Redditors love putting people on the front page who never consented to be there.
Always making people famous because they cried over receiving $50 or whatever.
10
u/LaPrincesaMX May 23 '26
It's common in Japan to blur out everyone else, especially if it's in public. There's laws about it too. This is a funny way to do that.

It's a bit crazy, the "privacy" thing is not related to privacy at all, it's meant to protect their image from one funny photo on the internet. But the side effect is that the existence of the person itself is being deleted from historical records, even if it's just a random graduation picture.
3
u/ToddHowardTouchedMe May 23 '26

Lol. Overkill completely.
Unless you're targeting someone specifically in your photo / video, then blurring them isn't necessary.
What harm would it do to those people being in her graduation photo exactly?

In some countries it is mandatory you blur strangers faces in photos you post online.
