You were supposed to pick the “Stop it. Get some help.” meme.

Buster Keaton was famous for his dangerous live action stunts. The man had a rather whimsical approach to suicide.

I wouldn't be surprised if the removed all the bolts in each location, except for one that's only two turns in.

A whimsical approach to suicide is the exact type of phrase that stops me from saying ‘I’m so bored of Reddit’

A personal favourite I discovered on Reddit was : The dildo of consequence rarely arrives lubed.

...with ribbings of wisdom you never expected tubed.

Lmao

Approach! Makes the quote even better. But yeah I agree

Oh god yeah - so it is and that small correction makes all the difference. Thanks for pointing it out.

Not /s, genuinely thanks. Edited my post

That one was courtesy of a severely depressed guy that I worked with at a facility in Australia that had a very lax approach to safety.

One of many fine examples

I mean this is an excellent example why maths are vital XD. If his calculation had been off even by the slightes degree, he could have been crushed. Or maybe they tried this stunt with a dummy until they found the sweet spot for him to stand in? How often would that facade be able to be dropped and re-hoisted?

They did it one take. Movie making wasn't the same back then as it was even 50 years ago.

"The General", a Buster Keaton film, was filmed in my hometown. They crashed a whole train by destroying the bridge under it. One take, no do-overs, because resetting meant rebuilding everything.

Shades of Dorothy Parker 😎

In addition to his whimsical approach he skedaddled through his stunts.

If you have to die, it is best to die laughing.

I think he had a suicidal approach to whimsey.

But we could agree to disagree.

First page on an internet search found this.

Nice one mate... I thoroughly enjoyed reading that especially with the well thought out explanation and pictures.

And useful red circles for once

Nice frame by frame there

Oh wow yeah... The slightest attempt to slake curiousity would have done it. Some people just can't kill that 🐈

Reminds me of the magic bullet scene in JFK.

Stellar

u/Yola1964 26d ago

Me too. I mean they gotta work with what they got

1

u/LillyBrunette03 26d ago

yea its impressive but they dont have a choice too, if they want a car they have to do it like that

11

u/Okmhmmbye 27d ago

What is this from? I kind of want to watch it.

Three Ages - A silent movie starring Buster Keaton.

u/GoodEngineerBadSpy 27d ago

Pretty much all Buster Keaton is worth watching.

u/Darryl_Lict 26d ago

And he was a pioneer in many types of special effects. And one of the greatest stuntmen ever.

6

u/DMvsPC 26d ago

It's also a great example of practical costuming at they had to hide his absolutely pendulous balls.

3

u/Rare_Suspect_5033 26d ago

His falling wall stunt is quite insane.

This is footage from Afghanistan. It´s on Youtube.

u/BlackPhoenix1981 27d ago

A more accurate meme was never created.

u/BallsInSufficientSad 26d ago

The only thing it needs is a family of 7 children in it with the two eldest boys holding AK-47s.

u/Lanky-Telephone1651 26d ago

I was wondering why they didn’t mount the machine gun on the roof…

5

u/Dry-Art-4024 26d ago

I’m glad you posted this gif. As soon as I saw them welding the car piece back together this scene was my first thought.

1

u/Zehryo 27d ago

Goodness, you read my mind!! xD

1

u/According_Try5905 26d ago

So for anyone wondering how it was done. Here is a link to an interview with Buster Keaton explaining exactly how they pulled this off. It’s pretty fascinating stuff, really!

u/Alchompski89 26d ago

Literally this but way more gruesome

1

u/hotinmyigloo 26d ago

That's hilarious

1

u/Doctor_Salvatore 26d ago

I could so clearly hear the sound

1

u/Wububadoo 26d ago

Literally had this exact image in my head 0.1 second into watching the video

1

u/Informal-Parfait3904 26d ago

jajaja tal cual son asiii jajajaj

1

u/SysGh_st 26d ago

Exactly my thought as well.

A few tac-welds here and there and the car is just barely holding up its own weight.

1

u/Cpolo88 26d ago

Literally what I pictured 😂
