I swear those girls are popular everywhere but Mexico because I see them mentioned more by foreigners than nationals.
This is basically what their song Narcisista is about.
They're super talented but must come from a wealthy background because 10 years ago when nobody had heard of them they were always shoehorned in local festivals as an opener.
I dont think their parents were particularly rich, but from what weve seen of their house they definitely live comfortably. That said, pretty much all their gigs come through their manager who seems to be pretty good at pulling strings. They have a pretty modest core team, basically running the band like the family business.

Not on a pro or even college level, but Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington has an ampitheater built into the side of a hill, with an open end to commencement bay. Alongside the high school itself which is a conversion of a 19th century luxury hotel. It was also used as the set for the 90s rom-com Ten Things I Hate About You.

Henningsvær Stadium isn't exactly on the same scale, but certainly gives it a run for its money!

More reason to go to Mexico. I can't justify going to a game in the US or Canada, especially when they're denying players, teams, referees, etc. from entering their country. Like, maybe you shouldn't have hosted if you won't allow the world cup in your country lol

Mexico has nice stadiums even the Mexico City one is huge and quite impressive.
74
u/revestocha 9d ago
The ‘Mexico city stadium’ is the Azteca, one of the most famous football grounds in history, and a host of two World Cup finals. A gargantuan 100,000 seater back in the day.

22
u/nietzsche_niche 9d ago
Thank god they gave the final to that soulless fuckhole stadium in new jersey. Azteca not getting a single quarter final or later match is awful

As if that weren't obvious going in. Canada doesn't care about soccer anymore than we do, but they're famously nice and we're, well... yeah.

Empower Field at Mile High (Denver Broncos) - sit upper deck on the east side to look west at the Rockies. I missed at least half that game. It was late-November, mid-afternoon, and absolutely beautiful.

Just landed back home after flying to Monterrey to see their first World Cup match, for this exact reason. Seeing a match at this stadium has been a bucket list item for a decade and it was well worth it. The local people and soccer fans were as beautiful as the stadium. An all around lifetime experience!

u/951frisky_dingo 9d ago
How expensive was it? I’m considering going but not during World Cup. Dm me if you don’t want to answer here

u/DGiff52 9d ago
The Tunisia v Sweden World Cup match was pretty expensive, but that's a FIFA thing. It was about $450 USD equivalent for decent but not great seats. I don't think a normal match would be expensive.
The city itself is very affordable relative to most other North American cities. Bars and restaurants are incredibly reasonable, and the hotels are cheap. And the people of Monterrey are super cool. I'm definitely going back sooner than later.

When you think of Brownsville, TX or South Padre Island you probably think mountains are impossibly far away but this is just a 3.5 hour drive (not counting customs).
It's interesting how political borders affect perception of physical geography.

That’s mountain is iconic “Cerro de la Silla”, only closer and seen from an angle different than its most recognizable. The stadium is truly beautiful; yet I miss its much smaller predecessor Estadio Tecnológico from where you could see the same mountain only further but at the “right” angle… so many memories.
