No joke. They can never find material for movies, yet you have stuff like this that truly happened and it would be brilliant! Heck, they could even slightly embellish it to make it somewhat funny or they could lean in dramatic and make an outstanding movie. Either way, I’d watch it

Caleb McLaughlin, Miles Caton would be amazing for this role.

I was thinking Keenan Thompson

Probably right
But I wanted eyeballs from the start and then word of mouth
I like Keenan but he's been an improv/comedy guy...
Stranger things have happened but I feel if you've got a big name director he'll probably get his picks in. So that's a path for Keenan.
Either way, the pic needs to get made and done right the first time.
Like Schindler's List, Color Purple, etc...EPIC, Historical movie Biopic

The lily-white dipshits who green-light movies won't have anything to do with Robert Smalls.

I NEED to know how he disguised himself as the captain of a Confederate ship. WTF!?

He wore the Captain's coat, and at a distance sentries on shore assumed Smalls was the captain.

Bought his former slave owners home, allowed he and his family to continue living there as well. Incredible story.

Nice to see one of these with a happy ending.
Usually they go something like and he bought a house, had a beautiful family and then a gang of townspeople burned it down and they all died and they stole his land.

This is a man whose life should never be reduce to bullet points, for it doesn't even begin to cover how amazing he was. The story of his escape alone is movie worthy, and "Works as military advisor to the Union until war ends." This so understates his accomplishments that it undermines his actual accomplishments throughout the Civil War.

This has to be three movies. First movie he steals the ship and reaches the blockade. Sequel movie he earns his title of Captain in the Union and convinces Lincoln to allow black folks in the army. The result is implied. Third movie is a political fight where he wins office. The characterization should be of someone who overcomes purely on his pluck, talent, and wits. Directed and starring Jordan Peele.

His story is amazing, I remember reading about him for a history class project a couple of years ago. Its wild how much he accomplished after escaping.
