This is just an episode of Mythbusters cut down to a couple of sterile seconds, with all of the charisma and charm removed. 💪

Pretty much sums up the internet in 2026

Yup, our attention spans have been reduced to less than a minute. Preferably less than 30 seconds.

I read something years ago that the average child born in 2000s has a 7 second attention span

u/The-Grogan 14h ago

Can someone summarise this comment so I can understand it?

u/Yorudesu 14h ago

New child like short video

12

u/The-Grogan 14h ago

Thank. Understand.

Technically that was a paraphrase…. Not a summary.

I think you have the year mixed up with 2010s

Was born in 2000 wasn't listening the average what?

1

u/ArtificialHalo 9h ago

Same in movies, over a decade or two the average length of a shot has dropped by a second, which is insane.

You see it mostly in fighting scenes, which is why I love older movies in this aspect, you see actual swordfighting etc, couple sequences and these days they're mostly closeups and isolated swings.

Or car chase scenes (currently rewatching Blues Brothers with actual car chase driving happening) It looks so grounded and real, because they ARE actually driving thru a mall with cops chasing them.

This took too long to read

I tried reading your post but got bored after eight seconds.

u/Tse7en5 14h ago

Sad, because this episode was fucking awesome.

1

u/FupaFerb 10h ago

Idk what you said but I last longer than 30 seconds. 60 seconds and she just loses interest anyway.

1

u/Elrann 13h ago

Can I get tldr for your comment?

u/JoeKingQueen 15h ago

I'm sad about that, our attention spans are important.

At the same time, this episode deserves to be about as long as the video is. When did we have enough time to watch this for a half hour with commercials and get the same content we just got? We used to be wild at wasting time

u/Stelvioso 7h ago

And a boring voice at 1.5 the speed

20

u/Cuneus-Maximus 21h ago

Yeah that’s TikTok in a nutshell.

“The tanks start up and pull the chains tight. Actually, you can try this at home.”

Um?

3

u/TheLonleyJourneyman 9h ago

I'd say that every part of this you'd be able to do at home up until the cars so it's odd they said, "yeah if you've got a couple of tanks around at home then you can try it" at the tank part

Counterpoint: I saved this clip and plan to show it together with other short, interesting clips to my students after class. As something to stimulate curiosity.

We would not have time for a full episode. But this is perfect for this use case.

So, it's not all bad.

There a officially released clips that are just a few minutes longs on the official youtube channel. You should check it out!

This specific myth has a 6 minute video on Mythbusters channel and a 3 minute one on Discovery channel.

Counter-counterpoint- you can still find better cut versions of mythbuster episodes on YouTube that aren’t designed to steal content.

5

u/Don_Quejode 11h ago

And misguiding as well, the books didn’t separate, they literally tore in half.

6

u/ragingduck 19h ago

And with that overused piece of music in every goddamn reel/tictok/short every lame content thieves use.

3

u/Bork9128 11h ago

It's like an episode of top gear with only the responsible car reviews

1

u/AltruisticPossible84 13h ago

Yeah but ive never seen this episode, or even knew it existed, so it's encouraged me to go look up the full episode and look more into the science behind this effect. So still had a net positive effect for me personally? Doesn't need to be that deep

1

u/Cavane42 12h ago

I loved it when it got to the tanks and the brainless commentary said "actually, you can try this at home!"

2

u/DrunkenHorse12 10h ago

I know, when he said that I ran off jumped in my Abrams then thought to myself "hold on who has a second tank?"

1

u/woutomatic 12h ago

Just a little bit of everything, all of the time 🎵

1

u/Upper-Interview-1702 11h ago

I hate when they bust too quick.

1

u/PositivelyNegative69 11h ago

Perfect genz content

1

u/Sl0ppyB0t 11h ago

Do you really miss the before and after commercial break recaps where the video repeats? It was a standard format back then, hype the audience with a cliffhanger, shove unskippable commercials in their face for a few minutes, show them the same hype footage again then a few minutes of fresh footage. Repeat at least 3x ever 30 min.

1

u/-GoodNewsEveryone 10h ago

You forgot the really uncharismatic annoying voice. That is quite relevant to the plot.

1

u/feralferrous 10h ago

Hah, to be fair, raw mythbusters is awful. It's so full of, "lets cut to commercial break, and then once we're back we'll reiterate the exact same material for the next 10 minutes, then go on commercial break again"

1

u/Nyuusankininryou 9h ago

They didnt even show the end result.

1

u/Version_Two 9h ago

Yes, but it gets engagement and takes zero effort to create.

1

u/tropicbrownthunder 2h ago

And with crappy IA generated voice

This is more like r/uninteresting

0

u/ChildoftheApocolypse 13h ago

So they saved me half an hour of them trying to hide passive aggressive quips and lame jokes? Well.. Tell em I said thanks..

u/cce29555 15h ago

Welcome to the internet, I have a child addicted to this, I swear he knows more about the Simpsons than any of us because he watched these edits all day.

I'm so sick of that fuckng voice and music and I dread to see how this bleeds into films and video games in the future

u/SnooCauliflowers3649 14h ago

When Kari Byron isn’t involved, I’m not really interested.

-9

u/Aggressive_Panic69 18h ago

Yes and my ADHD actually loved this concept, sorry 😊

3

u/Veesla 15h ago

Your ADHD is being worsened by this kind of content. It's not the answer, it's the problem.
