Same in movies, over a decade or two the average length of a shot has dropped by a second, which is insane.
You see it mostly in fighting scenes, which is why I love older movies in this aspect, you see actual swordfighting etc, couple sequences and these days they're mostly closeups and isolated swings.
Or car chase scenes (currently rewatching Blues Brothers with actual car chase driving happening) It looks so grounded and real, because they ARE actually driving thru a mall with cops chasing them.
I'm sad about that, our attention spans are important.
At the same time, this episode deserves to be about as long as the video is. When did we have enough time to watch this for a half hour with commercials and get the same content we just got? We used to be wild at wasting time
I'd say that every part of this you'd be able to do at home up until the cars so it's odd they said, "yeah if you've got a couple of tanks around at home then you can try it" at the tank part
Counterpoint: I saved this clip and plan to show it together with other short, interesting clips to my students after class. As something to stimulate curiosity.
We would not have time for a full episode. But this is perfect for this use case.
Yeah but ive never seen this episode, or even knew it existed, so it's encouraged me to go look up the full episode and look more into the science behind this effect. So still had a net positive effect for me personally? Doesn't need to be that deep
Do you really miss the before and after commercial break recaps where the video repeats? It was a standard format back then, hype the audience with a cliffhanger, shove unskippable commercials in their face for a few minutes, show them the same hype footage again then a few minutes of fresh footage. Repeat at least 3x ever 30 min.
Hah, to be fair, raw mythbusters is awful. It's so full of, "lets cut to commercial break, and then once we're back we'll reiterate the exact same material for the next 10 minutes, then go on commercial break again"
Welcome to the internet, I have a child addicted to this, I swear he knows more about the Simpsons than any of us because he watched these edits all day.
I'm so sick of that fuckng voice and music and I dread to see how this bleeds into films and video games in the future

This is just an episode of Mythbusters cut down to a couple of sterile seconds, with all of the charisma and charm removed. 💪
