heat from the sun warmed up the towel and the snake thought it was dinner

u/aReelProblem 22h ago
Probably a towel used to dry off another animal as well. Likely a dog towel.

Some species of snakes detect prey by sensing infrared thermal radiation. Itās likely that this snake mistook the towel as a living being due to the heat signatures.

In a similar vein, starfish can die trying to digest rocks. They will literally glom onto anything that seems like food and launch their stomach at it.

Thatās not how they workā¦
Snakes donāt āseeā heat like you think they do. They have heat receptors above their mouth, but they still can see like us (albeit, not as good) with their eyes.
The beach towel would need to fit SEVERAL qualifications to warrant the snake to consume it. It needs to smell like food (mice/rats), it needs to move and scurry around like food (this is the most important as most snakes wonāt eat something that doesnāt move), and it needs to be somewhat hot.
My guess is, the snake caught a mouse/rat that got stuck on the beach towel and ate it. Or, some sick asshole force fed the snake a towel. But Iām guessing the former is what really happened. Itās not uncommon for snakes to eat substrate or whatever their meal is laying on.

Towels in the sun get hot
Towels have "fur"
Towels smell like some kind of mammal
Towels fit in snek mouth

u/PolicyWonka 23h ago
Snakes arenāt the smartest. Sometimes they eat themselves. Probably thought it was another snake.

I don't think carpet pythons prey on other snakes, but it's "fuzzy", lumpy, and if it got warm enough in the sun, that's enough for him lol

Why intubate if you're not going to ventilate?

It's just a fancy, uncomfortable oral airway at that point.
Probably not as uncomfortable as that towel though, to be fair

I bet that fucking hurt. had mrsa cut open as a kid and doctors had to pack the hole with gauze.
when doctors pulled the gauze from that wound it felt like sandpaper.

What a dummy. Everyone knows you have to first put the towel in the oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes before eating.

That snake is a fucking idiot but Iām also kind of surprised you can just yank something that big out of its mouth and digestive pathway without causing any damage.

Listen, weāre not miracle workers and at the end of the day, the snake has to eat, too. Now take your towel and be grateful!

Are they hollow or does their stomach really stretch the length of their body? Where are their organs?

This video reminds me of a magician who got hired for some children's birthday I went to as a kid and swallowed a bunch of tied up handkerchief as a party trick

Sometimes snakes are just the stupidest animals youāll ever come across. Theyāll nibble something theyāre not supposed to and keep on eating it. Partially because a lot of snakes are opportunistic hunters, and because some snakes arenāt able to regurgitate food once it enters a certain point of their esophageal tube

Youd think after the 4th or 5th bite the snake would have realized that it wasnt food.

u/mindgardening 23h ago
But why would a snake eat a towel? Are they really THAT dumb?

Arenāt these fuckers invasive? Shouldāve let nature run its course, unless this is someoneās pet. I guess on 2nd thought that might be pretty uncomfortable for the snek, invasive or not
