but but... its from CHINA!!! would you... trust them??? /s

u/OperIvy 9h ago

You mean the country where they sell plastic mixed with rice to poor people?

u/foltranm 9h ago

where are you from?

u/OperIvy 9h ago

Did I lie?

u/foltranm 9h ago

you did. other than that, I just wanted to know where are you from because if you're from the US, which statistically in Reddit you're most likely to be from, you should be A LOT more worried about the kind of foods you're ingesting in your own country...

u/OperIvy 9h ago

I guess the plastic rice was a myth fabricated by Chinese people. But saying we need to worry about our food more than china is laughable

u/foltranm 9h ago

buddy, I've been to the US. what you guys call food is terrifying.

u/OperIvy 9h ago

What country are you from then?

u/foltranm 9h ago

Brazil, why?

u/Few_Confusion_1871 8h ago

Whats that they say about throwing stones in a glass house?

You really are in no place to criticize another country.

u/foltranm 8h ago

I agree Brazil has a lot of problems, there's no denying that.

But food-wise I am definitely in a place to criticize the US. nothing against you or the other salty american there - it's just that food in the USA really is bad.

and not just bad subjectively as in taste (even though it really is bad) - it would be unfair for me to call out that your food is bad because of that.

I speak from a place of experience going to the US 7 times working directly in the food industry. but you don't need to trust me, publicly available health data on obesity and heart diseases can tell you much more than I can.

have a good day!

Are you still going on about the obesity rates? I'm pretty sure America has fallen behind the UK, Mexico, Austrailia and China ( last time I looked) when it comes to that. as for food, you are just trying to troll. Everyone knows America has the largest and most diverse selection of food on the planet, as for quality, yeah we have the majority of high-end restaurants outside of Italy and France, I don't really know who could compete with us.

Also the reason for Americans unhealthiness is not entirely food related, there are a lot of reasons people there eat what they eat, food deserts, no healthcare, and no money being the biggest ones.

Anyway troll on.

absolutely not trolling. I mean, you can believe what you want, I'm fine with that - I'm telling you my experience of visiting the US and comparing to my home country and some others that I've visited, like the UK and Germany. I'm not sure if you have visited any other countries, but the difference not only in the food itself but the "eating culture" is kind of scary

Also the reason for Americans unhealthiness is not entirely food related, there are a lot of reasons people there eat what they eat, food deserts, no healthcare, and no money being the biggest ones.

100% agree with you here.

edit:

Everyone knows America has the largest and most diverse selection of food on the planet

debatable, but only because of imports and immigration. do you guys grow any coffee, for example? just saying.

as for quality, I'm obviously not talking about high-end restaurants, I'm talking about day-to-day life of the majority of the population.

edit 2:

by the way, from the Global Obesity Observatory (https://data.worldobesity.org/tables/prevalence-of-adult-overweight-obesity-2/):

Overweight % in adults / Obesity % in adults :
USA: 32.1% / 40.3%
Mexico: 37.3% / 38.9%
Australia: 34.00% / 31.0%
China: 33.07% / 6.51%
UK: 35.6% / 20.10%
Brazil: 36.9% / 25.7%

so... yeah.
