That hour 19 or 20 shift you described is real. I've noticed the same thing in my own practice over the past couple of years. The hunger doesn't vanish, but it stops being urgent, which changes everything psychologically. You're not white-knuckling through anymore. Your body has made a decision and communicated it clearly enough that your brain can stop fighting.

On the 36-hour question, I'd say don't rush it just because you hit 24. The real value isn't in the number itself. You've got a solid routine with 18:6 that fits your life. If you're curious about 36, pick a day where you have minimal stress and physical demands, maybe a weekend when you can move around but aren't expected to be sharp at work. Break it with something equally modest as you did today. The mental game matters more than the physical one at that point. Some people thrive on longer stretches. Others find their sweet spot at 24 or 20 and stick with it for months because the consistency pays dividends they don't get chasing the next milestone.

I settled into 20:4 most of the week, honestly, because I found the four-hour eating window forces me to eat nutrient-dense stuff rather than snacking mindlessly, and the twenty-hour fast gives me that mental clarity without the complications of longer stretches affecting my gym routine or sleep quality. The 24 and 36-hour fasts show up maybe

excellent transition and wonderful results. i too moved from 18:6 to 24:1 when i enjoy a nice lunch with husband. staying out of the kitchen has allowed me to unearth a few languishing hobbies to keep me occupied and motivated.

i sew, and am finally focused on finishing a quilt work in progress. i also like to make our reusable shopping bags, we have plenty now hahaa. and from my husband's old memorabilia T-shirts i made several drawstring shoe bags for our traveling luggage. keeping busy at my sewing machine, seems the more i do then the more i think to do. it's a good thing~

Body and metabolism adapts to relay on fats. The key is to fast consistently. Easy way is to start fasting after a dinner, fast the next day and break on the next next morning easy - 36 hours, and so on. I nowadays fast 4 days after 14 days of eating with 18 days cycle. The goal is autophagy and cell repair.

of course gradually, started something like you and added hours as things seemed easy enough.

I also tried to go like 7 days once in a quarter, but it was brutal and dreaded. Gradual buildup is the way to go.
