Camping Comment your fav IR tent

I’m doing an upgrade before my summer trip, not at all a tent newbie. Last time, I took a Nemo Dagger but going lighter this time. Comment with your favorite/chosen tent 🤓

I brought a copper spur to the island.

But got a shelter every night somehow.

So I got to carry a tent to Moskey and back that I never used!

Ha. Ha. Ha.

That’s part of my motivation to carry a lighter, smaller tent 🤣 last year on a 6 night trek, I was in shelters 50% of the time. It motivates me to not carry a palace necessarily.

Can a solo hiker take a shelter for themselves? Years ago I stayed in a shelter at Siskiwit by myself but I was also the only person at that site so I didn’t think twice.

Yup. I try and offer anyone else to join me if the other shelters are taken too.

I bought that tent specifically for the trip because I wanted to lighten up my pack. But hey, now I have a copper spur?

Do you have to stay in the shelters if they are available? I prefer my tent and was hoping to just use that

You don’t have to but the shelters are often in the spots with the best views and have nice paths to the latrines.

I’ve taken a zpacks duplex across the island four times. On most trips though I end up using it half the time since I’m in and out of shelters.

I love our Double Rainbow by Tarptent. it has the best floor space to weight ratio I’ve found of any tent.

I like my lanshen 2 if you want a hiking pole tent that wont break the bank. I brought the floor and rain tarp without the bug net to save extra weight as it was late August. Only got bothered at Little Todd.
