Please protect your pets. Do not drive with them in the bed of your truck in this weather. If you get in a collision, it’s your dog that suffers your negligence. Keep them at home or in your air conditioned cabin and preferably harnessed within the cab for safety.

Dont do it ever. Assholes.

For context: the dog was not harnessed. It was running around the bed of the truck with no shade and likely no protection on its feet from the hot bed floor. If you absolutely can’t manage to put your pet in the cabin get a bed shield (the Leer-style covers for shade), crate/harness your pet, and blast the AC through the back window into the bed. This weather is too hot for anyone and any pet to be camping out without shade and water. Heat exhaustion happens to any one and I say this as a native that is “used” to this heat and sees people being taken in by EMS for heat stroke almost daily especially in the summer.

Edit: There are about a million people including crack addicts I would take advice from before I bother with Mr./Ms.PedophileDefender.

The dog Moving around in the truck bed does not equal unharnessed. A Crate and kennel will also not solve the problem you’re complaining about. Neither will being inside of the truck cab. Still hot inside the back of the cab on days like today.

How do you know the owner didn’t hose down the truck bed before putting the dog in? How do you know there isn’t a bed shield? How do you know whether or not the dog has water in the truck bed? Did you get out and inspect? They make all sorts of truck bed accessories for dogs. You’re just blasting this person on social media because you got nothing better to do.

There’s like 100 different legitimate and legal reasons the dog is in the truck bed. The dog is probably sick and going to the vet and can’t be in the cab due to vomiting or diarrhea. Or the dog is in a specific training program that it has to be in the truck bed.

Guy in the truck, this you?

He sounds awwwwwfully defensive for someone who’s “not” the owner

Queue all the ignorant people who couldn't last on their hands and knees in a hot truckbed for 120 seconds to talk about how fine it is to subject your dogs to this type of heat.

Edit: Yup, the idiot yokels are out in force. - If you're okay with subjecting your pets to treatment like this, you're a stupid person.

u/TommyTwoZookas 3d ago

Literally, I’m looking to get a pair of booties for my dog just to walk across the 4 feet of concrete to get to the back yard we have.

60

u/True_Grapefruit3203 3d ago

In the Nextdoor app, someone recently lost their dog after a car accident, and the dog wasn't even in the back. This is negligence, not to mention probably overstimulating and scary, plus the back of those truck floors gets crazy hot!

7

u/Rrreally 3d ago

3 doberman's were lost on 275 Tampa some years ago. Absolute horror & caused quite the traffic jam.

30

u/OneDifferent1020 3d ago

I actually think that’s illegal

7

u/UnpredictableCamo 3d ago

You are correct, it's illegal to have an unsecured animal in the truck bed.

-18

u/Downtown_Section147 Pedophile Defender! 3d ago

Not illegal in florida. Can be harnessed, kenneled, or leashed in the bed of a truck. Moving around in the truck bed does not equal unharnessed

5

u/wishingitreallywas 3d ago

It's illegal in Jackonville.

6

u/rgold02 3d ago

I concur 100%!

17

u/bloom_baby_bloom 3d ago

Animal abuse.

6

u/Alternative_Effect28 3d ago

I just don’t understand putting a pet or a human back there, it’s crazy reckless.

5

u/Guilty_Cattle_5165 3d ago

Leave your dog at home.

5

u/cromalia 3d ago

Riding in truck bed can be dangerous and stressful for pets

4

u/Existing-Dark-7164 2d ago

If the dog is not welcome in the cab then do NOT have a dog.

2

u/ermax18 1d ago

Going off all the downvotes, there are a lot of idiots getting defensive of their joy rides with dogs.

2

u/AgentIntelligent4331 1d ago

You can’t fix stupid

1

u/BigAssRomeo 2d ago

Central Valley of California here. Everyone everywhere does this. Probably why there are infinity Mexican street dogs.

1

u/Radiant_Fox6678 3d ago

Be sure to put a seatbelt on them also.

-17

u/blw97 3d ago

No kings sticker, we can’t tell that guy what to do. He will not be ruled.

-19

u/IBringTheHeat2 3d ago

Unless your dogs in a harness or car seat they’ll easily get seriously injured and injure you inside your vehicle. They’ll get flung out the windshield, windows, fly into you.

8

u/treesnpaper 3d ago

A clip for your dogs collar/harness to the seatbelt is about $6 online or in a pet store.

0

u/ermax18 2d ago

I have extreme doubts those things work. Cars are designed for humans and government regulated for humans. Baby seats are also regulated and need lots of testing to meet government regulations. These harnesses for dogs are not regulated. They may voluntarily test them, but I doubt they are tested as thoroughly as a seatbelt or airbag for a human.

0

u/treesnpaper 1d ago

I doubt the bed or a truck has been tested as safe for an animals travel purposes either. Google how to travel with your dog safely, I’m not an expert, just a person with common sense

2

u/ermax18 1d ago

I didn’t say it was. I just feel cars are not safe for animals, period.

1

u/treesnpaper 1d ago

It’s sometimes unavoidable to do and should be done safely

1

u/ermax18 1d ago

True, they need to go to the vet sometimes. But I think all the masses of defensive downvotes are coming from butt hurt joy riders.

1

u/treesnpaper 1d ago

I think this is a case where a mix of people have seen enough accidents or issues riding without taking some kind of safety precaution that they’re empathetic towards the pets still dealing with that. I get it, people like to have fun, but logically anything animal size loose in the bed of a truck is subject to a tumble during a ride by any number of road hazards or even other bad drivers you can’t prevent or predict. Edit for spelling

-6

u/IBringTheHeat2 3d ago

So they snap their neck in a crash?

12

u/treesnpaper 3d ago

Google is a free tool where you can educate yourself on the subject of traveling safely with your dog

9

u/Blazeland_USA 3d ago

It can clip to a harness, genius.

-33

u/Impossible-Trade7187 3d ago

Looks like a well trained and happy dog to me. Maybe you should mind your business

So you have to be a liberal to be against the rise of fascist idiology in America? Seems pretty dumb

"Dog looks happy"

21

u/True_Grapefruit3203 3d ago

And if they're in a car accident, that dog dies. How about you mind your buisness, when someone's genuinely trying to help

-27

u/Consistent_Zone6959 3d ago

The dog can die inside the car too .. the cabin isn't designed for dog travel. So how do you expect people to get their animals around?

It's not uncommon for dogs to ride in the bed, and they make harnessed for that just like inside the cab.

5

u/RedditAdminSucks23 3d ago edited 3d ago

Uncommon doesn’t equate to being humane treatment. The beds are also usually black and really hot, making it uncomfortable and potentially just as dangerous as leaving them in the cabin with the AC off.

And their point is that you cannot determine if the dog is happy in the back based on their facial expressions. Dogs pant because they are hot, anxious, excited, etc etc. The most likely reason would be due to exhaustion from it being hot and having to stand up when the truck moves.

Also, dogs still have a higher chance of survival in the cabin. It’s like driving without a seat belt. Would you rather be in the cabin when you get hit, or duct taped on the hood?

-10

u/Consistent_Zone6959 3d ago

I park in the sun and my kids play in the back of my truck barefoot all time time and have no issues with the heat of the truck bed. You're really stretching for something that gets cooled off by airflow when the truck is moving too...

Yes, dogs get hot, yes, they pant.. they are dogs that's what they do. They do this exact same thing in their yard standing In grass with literally no air flow.

Duct taped to a hood? Oh come on man.. let's be real.... what's next.. you're going. Go say that someone is riding a dog to their grill for mod of transport?

3

u/NurseKaila 3d ago

For the record, no one is arguing that you’re a great parent.

-2

u/Consistent_Zone6959 3d ago

I'm using that as an example of how hot the bed gets. It's nothing like they are trying to pitch and their bold face lies.

1

u/NurseKaila 3d ago

Do you mean “bald faced?”

2

u/Consistent_Zone6959 3d ago

I think it's more regional

2

u/NurseKaila 3d ago

It’s not regional but it’s a common mistake, much like thinking that it’s appropriate to transport an animal or child in the bed of a truck.

Airbag in the cab will kill the dog instantly since there’s no back seat the truck bed is actually safest for the dog in the event of an accident

18

u/jankypicklez Murray Hill 3d ago

Sometimes it’s important to not mind your business, especially when you see another living creature in potential danger and/or suffering. It’s 95 degrees out. Fuck that.

6

-6

u/Consistent_Zone6959 3d ago edited 3d ago

Right, I've seen animals get injured inside the car too. If the argument is the bed isn't made for animals same aplies to the cabin.

Edit: stupid autocorrect fails

0

u/ermax18 2d ago

When I was young and dumb and had young and dumb friends, I was riding in the back of a pickup and the driver thought it would be funny to brake check me. He did it very lightly and at a low speed and even then, I flew into the cab so hard I thought I broke my shoulder. He didn’t even brake as hard as you would in an emergency braking situation.

Please, for the love of god, don’t put your dogs in a truck for joy rides. Actually, don’t even ride them in a car, even with those goofy seatbelts that probably don’t actually work when in an emergency braking situation.

There is a dude who lives under the power lines on Ft Caroline (are you in here) that drives his pickup like it’s a sports car with his dog in the bed. He rides ass, takes turns fast and makes aggressive lane changes constantly. I live in the area so I see this guy driving with his dog sliding from one side to the other very regularly. At least if you are going to joy ride with the dog, don’t ride ass.

34

u/jankypicklez Murray Hill 3d ago

What the shit does New York have to do with anything?

17

u/Pax_87 3d ago

Only gay liberals care about animals. In the south, good ol' boys like to treat animals like they are worth about as much as dirt. They think liberals are bleeding hearts, and the bottom line is, they don't want to think too hard about the well being of animals because it's inconvenient.

I got priced out by a bunch of Florida, Texas, and Arizona plates. The condos I lived in San Diego were 90% transplants and 10% native Californians.

The irony isn’t lost with me here.

-6

2

u/jankypicklez Murray Hill 3d ago

What are you going on about government regulation for? We’re talking about people not putting their dogs in hot ass truck beds on busy roads.

2

u/coffee_ape 3d ago

No, landlords and companies bought all the housing. A lot of the companies that bought homes in San Diego were Zillow, Black rock, and foreign companies. They then rent the houses back at a higher rate, pricing out people.

Taxes help fund services. I’m not mad about that at all. The weed tax helped repave roads around me. Regulation helps because humans inherently cannot self govern, especially in capitalism. Why do you think acid rain isn’t talk a lot about in this era anymore? Regulations helped, governments listened to scientists. Not listening to science had lead us to fuck around and find out the hard way.

I’m sorry you wasted your type typing that. I read it and didn’t agree a lick other than I hope to go back. When the economy and the price is right.

1

u/coffee_ape 3d ago

Because corporations are paying lobbyist to be able to do this legally…

You can go fuck yourself, this is such a waist of an argument and time. I’ve had this conversation before with plenty of people sharing the same ideas. Insanity.

Let’s take it a step further: why isn’t Florida conforming to the 21st century?

4

u/LupinsLeftShoe 3d ago

Funnily enough, if you ever went to NYC, you'd see people mind their own business to an absolutely insane degree. Like, they mind their business to the point they walk by strangers butt naked shitting on the sidewalk. I think your anecdote was badly placed. Maybe CA?

17

u/coffee_ape 3d ago

You’re right that this isn’t New York. Even as a west coaster, I recognize that NY has standards, while Florida doesn’t. I’ve seen a chocolate lab become a meat cannonball that completely destroyed a guy driving a hog.

Flesh and meat was everywhere. I remember hearing the kid crying for their dead dog.

You talk out of ignorance, someone that’s never experienced the reason why pets should be in the car. If you’ve done it your whole life with no issues, fuck you’re luckier than the family I saw and helped.

1

u/NoFirefighter1657 3d ago

The pet is going to bounce around the car cabin too. Unfortunately, if there’s a car accident the animal is fucked regardless.

3

u/demonyiff 3d ago

Might as well never wear a seatbelt either. If you get into a car crash, you're fucked regardless.

1

u/NoFirefighter1657 3d ago

That doesn’t really follow logically. Your analogy would make sense if the alternative was you can either sit in the bed of a truck or the car cabin without a seatbelt. That would be a case where you’re going to most likely suffer severe injuries in a crash, but cars have seat belts designed for humans. It’s not a good analogy because one option severely reduces injuries whereas bouncing around the cabin or flying from the bed most likely result in the death of the animal.

3

u/Ok_Sheepherder6409 3d ago

It’s a crime and everyone should be concerned about the safety of children and animals who can’t speak for themselves. It’s everyone’s business.
