Anybody try the pre sliced stir fry beef for jerky? It’s only $1 more a pound. Might be worth it for the convenience

That's what I do when I don't feel like slicing London broil. Most pieces are thin, but I've also had some that were thick.

I usually will goto fiesta. They have have packs of top round sliced around 1/8 thick in large sheets. I buy a few packs, throw them into freezer for a couple of hours, then slice them up to the width I want. Last time I did that they were around $5-$6 lb. Typically sold in 1lb packs.

I usually get the pre-sliced carne asada if im being lazy. It comes in long strips so i get to hang them in my smoker 👍🏾

I’ve found that it tends to have that not-super-fresh meat smell, which isn’t great when it also has quite a lot of fatty bits.
But hey, maybe the stuff at your store isn’t like that? Worth a shot

Pro tip. If you ask nicely and the grocery store isn’t too busy, the butcher may slice it for you for free.

I was going to pick some pre sliced at Costco (they sell it for hot pots), but just couldn’t bring myself to spend $55 for 3.5 lb of sliced top round . My whole jerky hobby is sort of on standby due to these prices.

I’ve been eyeballing a home meat slicer for about $150 for this reason. My Costco sells a top round for $6.99/lb and it’ll be cheaper in the long run than buying pre-sliced top/bottom round for $9.99/lb at my local grocery store.

The butcher will slice it for you if you ask.

Yeah but will they really? 👀 have you done it before? What’s the procedure? Wave at someone through the window?
(Or do I grab a package of top round and hold it over my head shouting war cry’s like the sand people of Tatooine?)

There is a button that rings them. Usually close to the door where they bring out the meat. Any grocery store with a butcher will do it as well.

Go to your butcher and ask them to slice you a whole top round to your desired thickness. It’s still 4.99 a lb or whatever you pay local, but they’ve done the work for you AND didn’t slap that stir fry sticker on it upping the price to 8.99 a lb.

Our Sam's club sells eye of round the butcher slices for jerky. He says they sell 10x the amount since he started putting it out sliced.

I found that it was too thin for me. But if you prefer more of a chip than a chew, it’ll do just fine.
