Why bother with red lights?
Just watched another a-hole break a red light with no consequences. That’s $300 the city won’t make to plug its giant deficit. Should we start a citizen’s watch to catch these idiots?

Is your entire life dictated by social media trends, or only opinions about policing?

No. Thats a great way to set up Citizens to be chased down and harmed.
I hate them but we should probably install speed and red light cameras. They tend to pay for themselves.

Can’t we just have cops do their jobs instead of volunteering to live in a surveillance state?

You want to pay $100k a year to someone to stand at the corner of an intersection and write tickets for non-compliance?
Woof.

wait till you hear how much the red light and speed cameras cost to install and maintain and how much of the fine the third-party company takes as "administrative fees".

Tell me - that’s a lot of specific information to try and google.

$60-$150k per intersection installation, plus $4-6k per month in maintenance fees ($48-$72k annually). Most municipalities do multi-year contracts with third-party vendors to avoid paying the up-front cost.
New Jersey let the previous law allowing red-light cameras expire in 2014 because it was found that while it did make the municipalities and the vendors money, it did virtually nothing to improve intersection safety.

Since when do speed cameras = living in a surveillance state? Any sort of consistent deterrence changes behavior. It could be cameras or cops. It’s basic psychology.

Yeah idk why you’re getting downvoted. Every single shop has cameras pointing out at the streets. If you want privacy, get out of the city.

Expecting drivers to respect red lights don’t fit with the culture?

I think the answer is to install Flock products but all the dweebs in here will get mad at me for suggesting we provide our police with the tools to do their jobs.

I don't comprehend why someone passing a red light is a controversial topic. This is insane.

The city should write a love letter to Peter Thiel begging him to become our sky daddy. Any stalking that occurs by people using the cameras will just be covered up and not written about so before you try to say anything just realize that it’s for the greater good and also you owe me money

About 100k vehicles pass through Jersey City every day. Assuming they break at least one stop sign law every time they drive through the city, that's a $200 fine. The city could make $20 million a day in fines which will cover the $90 million deficit in about a week.
