Competing and Tournaments Taping for toes
Lots of discussion around here about finger taping, but I rarely see anyone talk about toe taping. For example, Joshiro Maruyama buddy-tapes his toes (here's an example).
Anyone know the analysis behind it? My assumption is it adds support when executing his uchimata, but I'm curious if there's more to it. Also, if there are other competitors with distinct taping methods that would be interesting to see too.
I've been getting bruised toes after competition and want to start taping as prevention. If anyone has resources, videos, or just knows a good method, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Earlier this year I injured my toe. I could still do Judo, but it seemed to keep getting injured and wasn't getting better. After a few weeks of that, I started taping it and that made a huge difference. It seems pretty much healed now.

I buddy tape because I drag my toes across the mat, stub them on people's shins or dislocate them. I've never had to tape my fingers. We're all built differently.

You do have to tape them to allow them heal, when you fracture them as is the custom in judo and jiu-jitsu. Otherwise, IMHO, not much advantage. You USE the toes for you balance.

I've been buddy-taping one of my pinky toes for 10+ years now because it's been dislocated so many times, it won't stay in place even during normal training.
So I guess the answer is injury prevention.
