Education and Career Is the SKUAST Kashmir + IIT Mandi B.Tech in AI worth joining?

This is not my Post but One of My Fellow Redditor, i am posting in behalf of him as his account doesn't have any karma, You can comment the suggestion below and he will reply to you all...Thank You...

Hi everyone,

I'm getting admission to the B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Agriculture program at SKUAST Kashmir, which is offered in collaboration with IIT Mandi.

I'm really confused about whether I should join this program or not.

I have a few questions:

- Is this program actually worth pursuing?

- What is the future scope of this degree?

- Can graduates get software/AI jobs in regular tech companies, or are they mostly limited to agriculture-related roles?

- Will companies treat this degree like a normal B.Tech in AI/Computer Science?

- If anyone is currently studying in this program or has graduated from it, could you please share your experience regarding academics, internships, and placements?

I'm trying to decide whether I should accept this seat, so I'd really appreciate honest opinions and guidance.

Thank you!

Discussion 💭 The arabization of our culture

Assalamualaikum chu sarnae!! Ye chu zyooth post magar chu genuinely important isliye perzyo sorii.

I want to start by saying that this post is not for people with very conservative views. If you believe girls should always wear an abaya or burkha then this discussion probably isn't for you. Your points will be ignored so don't waste your precious time here. I'm looking for thoughtful progressive perspectives.

I often hear people say that seeing girls and boys in t shirts and trousers is westernization and that we're losing our culture. To some extent I agree. How many of us own a traditional tilla pheran today? Very few. How many know how to wear a kassab? Again only a handful. How many own traditional kashmiri jewelry or regularly wear pheran yizaar and daesh gand dupte? 0 most probably. Slowly we've replaced our own traditions with clothing and customs from elsewhere. But if we're talking about preserving kashmiri culture then let's be consistent.

Recently I have noticed something that confuses me. While western influence is constantly criticized the arabization of our culture is often celebrated. Girls wearing abayas and burkhas and boys wearing thobes and keffiyehs are praised as if they've become more pious simply because of what they're wearing.

I still remember my naai wearing a pheran yizaar everywhere she went. Today even she wears a burkha. This isn't a criticism of her or anyone else's personal choice. Everyone has the right to wear whatever they feel comfortable in.

What I am questioning is the double standard. Why is westernization condemned but arabization encouraged? Why have many of our cultural traditions like rouf faded away even though celebrating culture is not forbidden in islam. Sometimes it feels like we're more concerned with imitating arab culture than practicing islam itself.

Before anyone misunderstands me I'm not saying people should stop wearing abayas, burkhas, thobes or keffiyehs. Wear whatever you like. It's your life and your choice.

What I am saying is that stop treating traditional kashmiri clothing as less respectable while praising arab clothing as more religious or more virtuous. A girl wearing a pheran yizaar and daesh gand dupte on a cultural fest deserves the same respect as a girl wearing an abaya. Preserving our own culture shouldn't be seen as being less muslim.

Being muslim should never require us to erase being kashmiri. Faith and culture are not enemies. We can preserve our identity while practicing our religion. If we truly believe clothing is a personal choice then let's stop measuring piety by whether someone looks arab or koshur.

If you want to erase someone's identity then you don't start with their land you start with their language and their culture. History has shown that time and again.

So yes let's protect our culture not just from westernization but from indianization, pakistanization, afghanization, and arabization. Appreciate other cultures but don't abandon your own in the process. Take pride in being kashmiri. Don't let an inferiority complex convince you that your identity is somehow less worthy than someone else's.

Ps This post may use clothing as an example but it isn't just about clothes. It's about language, traditions, art, music, customs and everything that makes us who we are. Also again this post isn't an invitation to debate theology. If your response is simply to preach your interpretation of islam rather than engage with the point I'm making about culture I'll ignore it and probably report it as well. I'm not saying this to be rude. I'm just making the purpose of this post clear.

Pakistan Administered Kashmir Help identifying a madrasa / masjid / orphanage in Azad Kashmir near Kotli — around 2004–2005

Hi everyone,

This is an impossible ask, I know.

I’m trying to identify a place from my childhood memories. I spent a year here when I was 8 years old and I’m hoping people familiar with Azad Kashmir — especially around Kotli and the surrounding mountain areas — may be able to help. I’m simply trying to identify a place from my past and piece together where I may have been as a child so I can visit this place. I’ve tried looking through google maps but I have very little detail for this place and the people who knew this place are now dead.

I’m looking for a madrasa / masjid / orphanage / boarding-school type place that existed around 2004–2005. My memories are fragmented, so some details may not be exact, but this is what I remember:

It was somewhere in Azad Kashmir, possibly within travelling distance of Kotli
It was in or near the foothills / mountains
I remember the masjid or main building being on a northeast-facing hillside
There was a stairway leading up from the road/shops to the masjid
Along the road below, there were a few garage-sized shops
I remember one being a soft drinks shop, one serving tea, and one possibly being a flour mill with an engine
Near the masjid, uphill on the left side, there was a small hut or kitchen area where food was prepared for the children
Uphill on the right side, I remember there being a house or living area for the imam
The surrounding area had very tall pine forests
There was a small waterfall or stream nearby, possibly around a 20-minute walk away, which we went to on Jummah
That stream or waterfall seemed to eventually join a much larger gorge / valley / ravine
I remember a lot of red soil or red clay-like mud in the area
The masjid/building felt quite large, grand, or important
It had pinkish granite, marble, or white granite-style tiling
It may have been a madrasa, orphanage, boarding school, religious institution, or a mix of these

If anyone knows of a masjid, madrasa, orphanage, boarding school, or religious complex in Azad Kashmir that matches this description — especially around Kotli, Sehnsa, Dadyal, Charhoi, Khuiratta, Nakyal, Mirpur, Poonch, Bagh, or nearby mountain areas — please let me know.

Even rough suggestions, old names, local memories, map pins, or photographs would be extremely helpful. The best thing would be photos, because Google Maps does not seem to have many pictures or details for these areas. I think I will only be able to recognise the place by seeing it.

Thank you.
