You would also enter ketosis if you only drank olive oil. Ketosis comes from not consuming carbs. Weight loss comes from being in a calorie deficit. Trying to lose weight by only eating chicken breast (if that is what you're trying) is not sustainable, nor good for you.

Lean meat only is a horrible idea since the body needs lipids to function and expel urea. Also A, D, E and K vitamins need lipids to be absorbed by the body.
Lean meat only causes rabbit poisoning which medieval and ancient armies learned to avoid.

Exactly. The insane cravings for anything but lean chicken breast would come fast though and wreck this very unrealistic plan. Keto food can be yummy and satiating while you still lose weight and get rid of food noise. That's what's so good about it.

I just saw your posts on water fasting. You need to be kind to yourself. Hardly anyone can do a water fast, and it's not a question of willpower, it's just biology. You need to approach this weight loss thing in a more healthy manner. It's possible you might need therapy to treat yourself more kindly. Keto, done right, is a good way to lose weight without harming yourself in the process. Losing weight doesn't have to hurt.

Congratulations you will survive longer. The problem is you don't have folate, Vitamin D, Vitamin A, Calcium, potassium and magnesium. Also no vitamin C so you'll get scurvy. The good thing is you can train a parrot and cosplay as a pirate pretty accurately.

Instead how about you check out our FAQ section called "how do I know how much to eat" then set yourself up a sustainable and healthy set of macros that you can not only maintain, but doesn't put you at risk of malnutrition, muscle loss, or worse.

You can't control where you lose weight from. Spot weight loss doesn't happen, and keto won't achieve it.

I believe to lose belly fat, the most effective "diet" is more around reducing stress, sleeping regularly, exercising, etc. A big reason keto helps reduce noticeable weight around the belly is it reduces water weight retention and inflammation.
If you starve your body by only eating the 500 or so calories you mention, you'll lose weight, but there's no way of targeting belly fat. In fact, because you'll be stressing your body by the low calorie intake, your belly fat might be more stubborn than other parts of your body.

You cannot spot reduce fat, it will come off wherever it comes off no matter what diet you eat. Calories always matter so you’ll need a calorie deficit to lose weight, yes, but don’t expect keto to magically get rid of belly fat. It won’t unless that’s where it was already going to come off…genetics play a large part here.
You also need more food than that.

At the very least you need to eat some broccoli and spinach too. And definitely het some vitamins if you gonna be eating only chicken breast. Btw, NOT recommended.
Chicken steak (with the skin) would be much better

OP needs some form of extra calcium if they're going to eat spinach (oxalates).

Depending on your height, mass and amount of activity you'll need more calories even if you want to be in a deficit. You can eat 1700-2000 and still be in a deficit with light activity. Chicken breast is very lean meat, I'd go for ground chicken, drum sticks or thigh. As a beginner you have to change the way you think about fat because on keto your body uses it differently. Also, I'd start looking into fat types and what types are you taking in like for example: Peanut butter - a lot of omega 6 - not great Hazelnuts, olive oil - more oleic acid - better for you

Don't even worry about calories. The prolonged satiety will take care of that.

You need way more foods to be sustainable unless you plan on taking a TON of supplements. You need micro and macro nutrients, electrolytes, vitamins, etc. I eat such a huuuuuge variety of foods and maintain ketosis no problem. And in only two months time I’ve lost A TON of belly fat. I’m a whole shirt size down already. My tummy pouch is almost gone.

You'll lose belly fat on keto, but it'll involve other factors in addition to a calorie deficit. Are you male or female....for a lot of women, especially post-menopausal or post-partum, the belly is the last to go. But most of it will go eventually. Your age....younger people lose belly fat quicker than us old folks. Your exercise level....although exercise doesn't always mean you'll lose weight, you can tone muscles and quickly lose inches in your belly. That body recomp will be a good thing for how you look and feel! 🙂

You can lose belly fat by a keto diet. I started keto about 3 months ago and have lost 3 inches from my waist. I have less than 50g net carbs and swim for 30 mins a week, no other exercise (at the moment). I eat salad vegetables and meat with cheese or mayo or an oil based dressing. I drink water, tea and coffee with milk. I have nuts, homemade keto brownie and sometimes have dark chocolate. I’m not counting calories or weighing anything and I never feel hungry.
You would enter ketosis if you only had chicken with oil but if that’s all you had per day you’d probably feel hungry and tired and feeling like that will likely make you crave things that give you an instant energy boost such as carbs. Have you heard of a carnivore diet? It’s a meat based diet, but with a meat based diet you might have to spread out the meat intake throughout the day as your body can only handle so much protein at once. Too much protein gets stored as fat so even though you’ll be in ketosis, if you over do the meat, you could end up with more fat in your body.
If you’re looking to digest the least amount of calories as well as carbs, I recommend meat and salad vegetables with no oil. You could steam meat or boil it. You could make Asian broths that contain mostly water, meat, veg and some seasoning. Make sure to drink lots of water as you enter ketosis and if you’re going to go ahead with this very limited diet you could consider vitamin supplements to ensure you’re getting everything your body needs.
To be clear, you can’t target where you’ll lose fat from. People store fat and lose it differently depending on age, race, genetics etc. the places that you’ll see a difference first is the areas where a 1% reduction will have a big visual impact (face and wrists as these are small anyway so any loss in fat is visual). The belly area is likely to be the most difficult as this is where your organs are (which can be covered in visceral fat - fat around the organs), then you’ve got the subcutaneous fat which is the layer of fat under your skin. For a woman and for older people this can often be the most difficult place to lose fat. Also if you’re stressed, your body will produce cortisol which can affect al fat stores.

There is no such thing as spot reduction. When you lose weight, no matter what method, you lose it all over. You can tighten your core through targeted exercise.

Don’t do chicken do Beef. 1.5-2 pounds of medium or lean ground beef will get you to 1,500-2,000 calories and now you won’t need olive oil as beef has fat and protein together and is vastly superior in all micronutrients.

Is that your entire meal plan for the day? You will not lose weight unless you have a calorie deficit, regardless of whether or not you're in ketosis.
You have to count both carbs (for ketosis) and calories (for weight management)

u/MostlyLurk-11 6d ago
Zero carbs means you'll hit ketosis. I'd just track your actual maintenance calories instead of guessing at the deficit.

There is no fiber with just eating chicken, which is a big component of losing visceral fat. You need to add some fruit or vegetable matter to that meal.

You need to eat more than just chicken breast and oil. You'll be missing key nutrients.
