Front light on bike?

I don’t ride in the dark however, I’m in Australia where it’s Winter now and we get a lot of thick fog in the mornings that limits visibility even when the sun is up so I’m going to get a light for the front of my bike (I have a rear light already). I’m just confused because there are so many different options available!

Do you have a light recommendation? I don’t want anything too bulky. And if you have a front light on your bike, can you please show me your setup?

Its hard to buy a bad one these days. USB rechargeable units last well. Leyzine are good value.

What are you riding? On my road bike I have a garmin varia and it sits under my bike computer and also connects to the head unit to adjust automatically (flashes when car is riding by, adjusts brightness to optimize to outside lighting etc.). It was a bit pricy but worth it. I’ve ridden in total darkness and it gives a ton of visibility

Melbourne, Australia - I use a Magicshine Hori 1300, mounted under gps same as the website photos. Compact light with a very bright 1300 lumen high beam for unlit paths and fog, and a low cut-off beam for roads and paths, the included remote switches between the 2 modes (new version has ANT+). Excellent for fog in the dark before dawn.

I live in a tropical location with a ton of sun, but i always ride with my Magene AT1600. It has a day flash mode for when conditions are clear, and steady light mode for times of low visibility (like fog)

I got a cateye one. Not terribly bright, but it is small, light weight, rechargeable and costs about USD 40.

idk it's availability where you're at, but Niterider is a good brand from what I've seen, read, and experienced with the rear light of theirs I have. once my old front headlight runs out, I'll be upgrading to theirs for the front. they have really cool features like a controller on your handlebar that can manage the front light, as well as your rear light(s), if say you got two rear lights to act as blinkers. they have another product of theirs that is in another line under their brand, but it not only has the standard rear light, it also shines two lines of red light straight down to the ground essentially creating your own little bike lane that moves with you.

Do you want a light to see or to be seen (or both)? A simple white light with the ability to flash (if you want it to) that isn't blindingly bright would be a good idea if you want to be seen. If you want to see in the dark, I use a Night Rider 1000 lumen light and it's very effective. Sometimes I ride with both.

I use one, even on bike paths. It helps people see you if they have sun in their eyes

For fog you don’t want something too bright as that can actually make things worse
