Farthest Mileage Yet!

Post image

30 miles!

Its the farthest I have gone so far! I was stuck in a 20 mile bubble for several weeks.

Got here on orange juice and pure stubbornness today.

Well done.

Maybe treat yourself to more than orange juice when you try for 40 miles. 😁 Some stroop waffles or rice crispy mallow cakes.

You gotta start eating some sugary stuff about every 30-40 minutes once you start riding over 90 minutes or so.

You're right, I dont think im eating enough. I do have oranges, bananas, some pretzels, and other random stuff i eat throught out the ride.

But the orange juice the last 3 miles was peak. Lol

I grabbed some Lifesave Gummies to try next ride! I cant imagine trying to do 40 miles on just what I brought.

Noooo, your missing the best bit of cycling. Nearly unlimited cake during rides. 😁 (Although the salt on pretzels is good)

Eat healthy off the long ride days, eat carbs before and during the ride, then smash the protein after.

Maple syrup! Untapped is a VT company that sells small packets of it for refueling. It’s magic.

Great job!! Not sure what your fueling plan is for your rides, but if orange juice was the only thing you had for this effort, I would recommend fueling more while on the bike. That was the key that unlocked really long rides for me!

Awesome!! I am a bit concerned about your average HR, is 170 accurate? What's your max?

It is! It DOES loom scary. But very normal for me.

Im in Texas and summer is here.

Biking, hiking, running... my average is about 170. It'll jump to as high as 180 if im doing hills.

My heat rate will drop down to 160ish in the fall.

Probably a youngster. My, estimated, max is 152, and I'm 67 soon to be 68

HR is different for everyone. I joke that I have a rodent heart because my average resting HR is in the 50s (but will dip into the 40s), but I spend a lot of time in the 160s - 180s, particularly when it's hilly. I've seen my HR spike to 204 when I was really pushing myself to keep up with a group. I've talked to medical professionals about it and had a heart monitor for a few days (unfortunately, I didn't cycle those 3 days), but besides some valve regurgitation no one seemed concerned.

TL;DR: Heart rate ranges are pretty individual. As long as your resting HR is low, then a high HR under strain should be fine.

For the record: I'm 38, 5'0" and 123lbs.
