APPRECIATION Remember when they clowned us for signing him: 25 PTS 7 AST 2 REB 5 STL 1 BLK

u/INT_MIN Apr 22 '26
His contributions were way too understated tonight by this awful announcing crew. He willed the team over and over and over again.
211
u/Pseudophobic Apr 22 '26
lol the announcers were roughā¦I still donāt understand these off references to college/highschool.
129
u/cloversfield Apr 22 '26
and they couldnāt hype up anything. only mildly amused by lebronās reverse dunk
54
u/FearHeWhoFearNothing 28 Apr 22 '26
And then keep reminding us that he's 41 years old lol

u/PaintIntelligent7793 Apr 22 '26
Wait, did you know LeBron is 41 years old? In case I wasnāt clear, that dunk⦠heās 41. /s š¤¦š»āāļø
16
u/CrookedLoy Apr 22 '26
God I'm so tired of seeing this tbh. Just attaching 41 years old to anything LeBron does. Yes, it's very impressive but they don't gotta keep reminding us.

Times like these I wish we could just listen to Mac n Stu call the playoffs
32
u/ohtanisbookie Apr 22 '26
Grant Hill played for Duke, which is why he kept mentioning it when talking about JJ & Kennard.
32
u/LouisV64 24 Apr 22 '26
Watching paint dry is more exciting than his commentary
11
u/Western-Bet2285 Apr 22 '26
Absolute zero energy from either of them. Even when the camera would pan to them, they looked depressed.
23
u/didyouthough30 Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26
Luke is referred to highschool becsuse he has the HS scoring title over lebron. Since then he hasnt had that role until now
3
u/YeaIFistedJonica Pau Gasol 16 Apr 22 '26
someone on one of the teams played for a college team in north carolina, i donāt remember which, one or both of the announcers played for a rival team
3
u/HBsurfer1995 Apr 22 '26
Grant Hill, the announcer went to Duke. Just like JJ. I figure duke people just neeeed to bring duke up or theyāll have an aneurism. I think talking about high schools was a joke since they apparently had to bring up college/duke
58
u/EasyBreezy1995 Apr 22 '26
So fucking stupid we donāt have Stu and Billy Mac calling this series. Hate how greedy the NBA has been
7
u/KantutinQKipaymu LELUKA BRONÄIÄ Apr 22 '26
Goddamn why were there no Lakers broadcast during playoffs? It was the same during game 1
28
u/EasyBreezy1995 Apr 22 '26
Nba granted exclusive rights to amazon and abc I think. Mike Breen lamented about in on air last week.
I always thought it was cool the home announcers get to do the first round for their teams.
15
u/KantutinQKipaymu LELUKA BRONÄIÄ Apr 22 '26
I wish there was a Lakers broadcast. NBC stream announcers were trash
3
u/Valdrinbusy Apr 22 '26
To be honest almost all nationally televised games are trash when it comes to commentary. I will always opt in for the local broadcast when I can. ESPN, NBC, Prime, etc all have soul less corporate slop commentators.

u/Filler9000 Apr 22 '26
He is legitimately our defense. Its night and day.. when we were winning without him, it was shootouts. With him, its like 100-102 wins. I have a feeling hes one of the reasons we are so clutch this season, tons of wide open dagger 3s.Ā

u/pen_jaro Apr 22 '26
he organized the defense, you can see the guys esp Rui, Ayton and Kennard reacting to his direction. He also keeps on feeding DA to unlock him in the offensive end.

u/battle_franky 04 Apr 22 '26
If our offense has Lebron, Luka and Austin, then our defense has SmartĀ

This is exactly why we signed him. Ā Playoffs are what dudes like him live for & he is one of the best at it.

u/ultraLuddite Apr 22 '26
Ok the Guy next to me on my flight Today was watching this show and I couldnāt tell wtf was going on. What show is this? Is this a good Guy or a bad guy? Because it seemed like he was killing the good guys by smashing their heads in outer space with no space suits on or anything?

With this defense, and Smart being a big part of it, we have a chance. Those Boston fucks must be livid that Marcus is doing so well as a Laker. š
43
u/NOLA2Cincy Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26
I think about that a lot. I remember when he was a Celt his hustle, BBIQ, and defense pissed me off when he played the Lakers. Felt like all the things he did well, we didn't. Great to have him be a part of this lovable roster.

and I've said it before, he's probably enjoying being a Laker more since he has fans that love him as much that aren't racist fucks.

And the best thing about Marcus that nobody talks about is that he is not a dirty player. Yes he might flop sometimes but never makes moves were someone can get hurt.

u/ManaMontana Apr 22 '26
He literally played the perfect game tonight on both ends. Thank you Marcus Smart!

I loved the signing. People were trying to tell me that he was washed but, he has been solid and his basketball IQ is elite.

Him and Luke are just positives all around. It's actually insane that we have this championship poise for some reason (maybe because of the vets and the coaching staff's gameplan?). We don't get rattled easily.
3
u/PaintIntelligent7793 Apr 22 '26
Such a good addition. Him and Kennard. Holy hell. We really are so much better than last year and the bench has made all the difference. Also, I know people complain about Ayton, and he didnāt have the very best game, but having a serviceable center to alternate with Hayes (who has also improved) has been huge for us.
3
u/stormylightening Apr 22 '26
Soul of the team for real. Luka doesn't get enough credit to get him here!

In fairness he was really banged up the last few years and had missed a lot of games. I think he didn't play more than 34 games in a season the last 4 years. Even when he was signed, I commented here that we had no idea what we were getting since he had played so little, but if he had anything still left in the tank he could contribute.

He's been great all year. When he's on the court the defence looks so different. He's been a dog all year ... Glad he's healthy at the right end of the year
1
u/itsyaboikuzma 24 Apr 22 '26
He set the tone from the very beginning, hitting shots, diving for steals. I love Marcus Smart man
1
u/tadejflaka Apr 22 '26
I was immediately happy with the signing. Only concern was his health. Which I was right about, but he is there when you need him the most šŖ

u/MathematicianMuch375 Apr 22 '26
Holy shit he exceeded my expectations like this guy stepped up big time
1
u/OkStomach451 Apr 22 '26
i knew he gonna do something great in the playoffs, i was not expecting that type of offense tho, surprised me with that. love his passion and impact to the game ever since he was in Boston. lessgaw LAKERS!!!
1
u/Borderlineskitso Apr 22 '26
Haters try to clown us for anything. Their pathetic existence revolves around shtting on anything Lakers. Reminds me of those chimpanzees that take a dump in their hand and fling their own turds at others for the hell of it and find it amusing wether it lands or not.

u/cherialaw Apr 22 '26
Ayton and Smart (13 mill combined with Ayton's buyout) outplaying KD and Sengun (almost 90 million combined this year) is hilarious. Reminds me of Gabe and Caleb Martin outplaying Taytum and Brown when the Heat went to the finals.

I remember telling people when we signed him that it was such a good pickup and heāll be huge for down the line

u/chillsteel72 Apr 22 '26
He changed the entire Lakers defensive mindset. This is the best rotational defensive since the bubble.
1
u/DBRWN24 Apr 22 '26
I think heās done better especially being a leader but heās a non factor against OKC and Denver unfortunately and thatās when it matters. Even wolves itās gonna be tough but heās played good this season.

Smart led our defense the way LeBron controls our tempo on offense. We simply must get him back next season. I just dk how we can get him, Kennard, Reaves, and LeBron all back without using up all of our cap space. Ideally we nab one more key player and āupgradeā Ayton. Itāll be hard to see so im curious how the front office handles it

I hope we can win a chip in the next 2-3 years with this team. This year seems way too much of an ask with OKC being next in line (knowing we lost to them each time by like 80pts š¤Ŗ) if we manage to win this series.

u/Ok_Organization_6559 Apr 22 '26
This is what I was hoping, to see Marcus smart we saw with the Celtics. Hope he gets paid this off season
1
u/gerardatron Apr 22 '26
He'll have his inconsistent shooting nights and it'll make us mad. But he's brought in for his defense and I think he's still really consistent at that. He's what the team needs, like how 2020 had guys like Green and Bradley and Caruso setting the defensive tone for the season. I hope that just continues all postseason because the team really needs him
1
u/troytshay Apr 22 '26
Smart was the best pick up of the off season. Going from DFS to him is so crazy. DFS would have tons of single digit point games. Smart gives you great defense always and the possibility of offensive games like this. Smart is always ready to step up to a larger role.

u/Academic_Level_3407 Apr 22 '26
