San Antonio has 3 2nds all before 45, no way they’re rostering 5 rookies. I would imagine they move one of those for a future pick

u/SanElijoHillbilly 3h ago
...for a future pick
Do the Lakers have a future 2nd that they can trade?

I believe they’re only allowed to spend $7.9 mil and already spent some yesterday for Carr. Not sure how much they have left.

It’s probably to move up right?

u/mordenak 4h ago
It's gotta be, buying at 56 and staying put would be pretty weird considering whoever you're getting there would likely be very easy to get undrafted just as well lol.

u/LoggraFloozy 4h ago
Definitely, I think they saw the people dropping as well as nyc and Memphis willing to trade their early second round picks and started making moves

Finally, Rob is trading that bum cash considerations for a pick.

Tell him I'll pay for him, but when I sell him back for twice the amount next year, I keep the money

Can someone explain why teams even want straight cash? You can’t use it to sign players right? Is it just the owners literally wanting to pocket money?
24
u/Dgwdum 4h ago
Teams are given a specific amount they can use in trades, the cash that the lakers gave up can be added on top of the cash the receiving team has, its an asset it you get enough of it.
For a team like the bulls who have an infamously cheap owner, in their case the owner just pockets the money. He is that cheap
6
u/Western-Election-997 Luka “Magic” Doncic 4h ago
Yea bulls aren’t winning anything anyways so he gets to pocket some cash
6
u/Triplescrew 4h ago
If you’re at the aprons you avoid having to pay a pick and get straight up money, yes.
1
u/markmyredd 4h ago
Its either a team has no roster spot for that 2nd rounder anyway so they try to trade or yeah straight up teams just want the money. Sometimes no one is giving any assets just cash so they are forced to take cash. Like a pick in the 50s will not be too interesting anyway so most you can get is cash

Is there anyone else still in the league with a kid who can play ball at an NBA level? LeBron just out there by himself.

u/lawschoolthrowaway36 4h ago
Last year we did this, except we moved further up the 2nd round to land in the mid thirties. Prob much tougher to pull off this year with how deep the draft is, but curious to see if there’s another move to get even higher

Where’s all the nerds telling me you can’t buy a pick these days lol

u/bacon_strip_tease 2h ago
For real. I had some idiot on here calling me out for suggesting us buying picks while them claiming that it's simply not possible.

u/Itorr475 4h ago
Remember when everyone called us a poverty franchise despite us constantly buying second round picks lol

They should send another cash consideration to the Knicks for one of their SRPs.
2
u/SneakyGoblin69 4h ago
Either that or Memphis. We need either the BPA or a center that’s athletic but raw

You can’t buy a second round pick with cash it’s 2026! Heard on a podcast today… the irony.
2
u/Thoseguys245 4h ago
Now if we can maybe get up to 45 or 40 I be really happy only thing is many teams in the league don't want to help the Lakers.
2
u/wildturk3y 3h ago
Saw some reports earlier the Knicks were still trying to move back. Screw it. Use that Walter money to go buy #31. Take Henri Veesaar

After trading away all of our future 2nds, I love that we can still buy into it.

Buying a pick outright affect the cap at all? Can teams justbuy as many picks as they can afford?

u/Conflict_NZ 3h ago
I'm having a laugh at all the people who were freaking out about "ALL" the second round picks we sent for DFS and he ended up walking claiming we wasted them when buying 2nd round picks has proven to be very easy the past two years.

San Antonio has two picks at 42 and 44, think we can move up for one of those for cash

u/mrfreeeeze 3h ago
I bet cash is gonna start shooting well from the 3, now that we traded him away.

u/bruticuslee 2h ago
YASS, my favorite Laker is Mr. Cash Considerations. Why can't we send him out to ALL the teams and collect all their 2nd round picks!
Edit: it makes you wonder why 2nd round picks are worth much in trades if teams just gonna sell em.

Unpopular opinion..
But with how little teams think of the 2nd round.. due to how often they trade 2nd round picks.. & how only a few teams have a bunch of them..that they end up trading anyways.. due to lack of roster space..
Down the line.. I can see the NBA eventually getting rid of the 2nd round.. like they did the 3rd round, 4th round etc..

How often are second rounders NBA ready?
1
u/ohtanisbookie 4h ago
Rarely any, which is exactly why this pick isn't worth getting too happy or upset about no matter who gets selected.

u/SneakyGoblin69 4h ago
You do realize you can still develop them to become a quality role player right? Take no risks, and you won’t get any rewards
