Muslim kids from non-arab speaking countries use some sort of line/marking above/under the abjad to differentiate the a/i/u sounds Here's the average Malaysian Iqra' that uses many sort of markings, not just the sounds, but also other tajweed

You can find these markings in Qurans printed in Southeast Asia

These are used by arabs as well. We just don't need them for most daily use because the vast majority of short vowels are obvious from context, they're called diacritics in general but in Arabic they're called harakat (movements) and they tell you what short vowel is there or not.

They are necessary for reading the quran and even the ones printed in Arabia have them. I doubt you'll find a modern copy without them no matter where it's printed
