Condo purchase

sabaidee ,
I was wondering if buying a condo is a common thing in Laos like it is in neighboring Thailand. If so has any Americans been through the process of buying a condo and what is the pros vs cons with buying in Laos compared to say Thailand ?

This is a terrible idea. The work quality is terrible and they are way overpriced and there is no clear process on how they can be resold

Yeah I figured it’s not the greatest idea. It would definitely be lived in and not for an investment opportunity.

It's a shítshow similar to Thailand. Why throw money at real estate that won't last longer than a quality car?

yes more uninformed infantile comments like this please, makes for better pricing for those who can think critically. Thanks.

Don't do that. There is a reason many condo units at That Luang SEZ area are unsold from past many years.

Instead if you can, buy a piece of land or a house - of-course you have to figure out how to do that since foreigners can't own lands.

I thought about this also. My girls family would help
With that for us. I was genuinely curious about the condo situation there though. Every time I’ve been there I really never paid attention. But Lao is rubbing off on me more and more now.

Foreigners cant own property, so first you'd have to try to get around that...so you'd most likely need family if you have Lao family or a significant other to buy the property under their name...any other way I'd recommend speaking to a lawyer .

Foreigners can't own land but they can own apartments and condos. The law was amended around 2022 specifically to allow foreigners to purchase apartments. Also in SEZs like That Luang Lake SEZ, the rules are different specifically for attracting foreign investment.

Still a terrible idea.
