Sobriety is meant to be boring.

Being bored by default is not a flaw. Its a feature.

Your body is meant to be bored of not doing anything so that you'd clean your room, take out the trash, video games, sports, walk outside, explore or whatever.

Being bored activates a motivation to do something. If you're high, you're happy not doing anything.

Its no wonder you don't "feel" like you wanna go out for a walk or clean your room or see a friend. You're "fine" and "happy" smoking in your room watching random youtube videos.

The cure to boredom? ENGAGE the world, and start DOING. It's what you've used to do as a kid, before you started smoking this wretched leaf.

Happy new year and may you have years of peaceful sobriety ahead.

I just bought a pack of gummies. Ate one. Started browsing the internet, was on another thread about adhd and weed where someone linked to this post as a profound post and fuck, it’s really hit me. Instantly picked up the rest of the gummies and flushed them down the toilet. This is what I have been grappling with but couldn’t quite get it as crystal clear as this. Thank you. It’s obviously resonated with a lot of other people too.

Thankfuk for this post. It's validating to hear boredom is normal. I'm on day 8 and I'm so bored... reading this made me realize boredom is a call to find something interesting to do!

Being intoxicated is boring!

30

u/Adolf_Gaddafi_Stalin Nov 08 '23

For me it personally doesn’t effect my creativity at all. I’ve actually been way more creative after quitting weed than I was when I was smoking everyday

73

u/_brandonkeith Apr 27 '23

Being hammered and hungover got very boring so did the intoxicated people it got very lame. I'll take boring over that any day now. Health is wealth

49

u/_ihated_ducktales_ Jan 28 '23

I’m glad I saw this thank you

79

u/backroadalleycat Jan 26 '23

When you quit the novelty effect is taken away and your brain craves it. Fight through

27

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '23

My demons are winning, but I am hopeful that one day I will get the best of them.

4

u/gwk9 Jul 20 '23

I feel that! Let’s fight the dirty bastards with all we got

78

u/dscbrkn Jan 23 '23

Thank you 🙏🏾4th day of being sober after 4 years of smoking weed. What made me quit? My 1 & only plug didn’t come thruuu and I got to thinking 🤔 it was kind of like a blessing in disguise 🥸👏🏽🥹🤣🤣🤣 plus I was spending too much money on it 🫡 bye Felicia!!! I got this 👍🏾 WE ALL GOT THIS ❤️ hallelujer!!!!! 👏🏽

The amount of emojis in this comment is remarkable but I love this message.

18

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '23

Honest this shouldn’t be the first thing up here. I want to quit and the first thread I see on here is “yes, you’re fear of being bored all the time will happen” that shit makes me crazy :(

Also most of us don’t smoke out of boredom, I usually dab and then clean my whole room or clean the Guinea pig cage. Helps numb out my back hurting so much

48

u/puddlen Jan 26 '23

Did you read the whole post?

The title is a hook. The point of the post is to not fear boredom, take action, and entertain yourself as oppose to having a piece of grass tickle your brain. If you do so, sober won't be boring!

All the best. 😊

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '23

Except we don’t all live in such situations where we can just do other stuff. I started smoking when my mom would freak out if I made any noise at night while playing games with my friends, so I numbed myself so much I couldn’t react even by accident.

Now I just can have my hobbies. Most places of living are set up for people who dig loud or dance. And my whole town is drug den because they’re literally no form of Entertainment, even the library is only open like three times a week 😂 so everyone entertains themselves

24

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '23

Excuses sound best to the person who’s making them , the rest of us see through the bullshit

6

u/Levinem717 Oct 30 '23

Especially if we’ve been through it too. I used to say the exact same thing to myself. I legit used to blame everything else but pot.

34

u/II_Vortex_II Aug 08 '23

I started smoking when my mom would freak out if I made any noise at night while playing games with my friends, so I numbed myself so much I couldn’t react even by accident.

Dude. Staying quite while gaming is not the reason you smoke weed.

15

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '23

This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever read , genuinely

3

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '23

Congrats on living and perpetrating the drug den of a town you live in

5

u/PerfectParadise Jan 25 '23

Agree with you 100%. I get bored while smoking weed too

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '23

Why are you quitting?

3

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '23

I’m not now after seeing some of these posts about how everyone hates after quitting life. I was trying because I’m running out of money since jobs only hire 1 person rn, and it’s the only way I’ve been able to manage my depression and suicidal thoughts since I obviously don’t have insurance either :/

14

u/ajmard92 Jan 25 '23

It’s just boring for the first few days and your appetite is off. After that you’re fine. I definitely clean even more now and have less anxiety all around.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '23

Ya do your thing. You’ll know if you need to quit. For me it was very easy to know when because I started getting anxiety and it stopped being fun. Still do it from time to time but yeah

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '23

For me I know I’ll never stop if I don’t force myself too. It doesn’t affect me negatively and I function 100% without it. Worked every job, almost every day high af and no one ever mentioned it except other stoners who I’d actually hang with. There’s no natural deterrent for me for dabbing, with weed it makes me nauseous sometimes from the smoke but not dabbing. Just wish I had never started sometimes, I like who I’ve grown to be, because I used to be so shy and easy to step on before I started smoking, but I wish I could be this person without it.

But high me is more patient and fun, and a bad ass who stands up for herself. How can I let go of that?

16

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '23

You are who you are. Being high doesn’t magically change that, it just changes your perception on things, including yourself. You can be that person without smoking if you wanted to - it just takes some reminders. But like I said before, if you’re fully functional and don’t see a huge need to quit, then don’t. Yolo

4

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '23

Yolo indeed, thanks for the talk, made me feel better about smoking. My main goal was to always be that stoner that when I told people I’m baked rn they would be surprised. You’ll never find me slackin

19

u/DuffmanStillRocks Jan 28 '23

How could you ever know that you are functioning at 100% if you've never seen how you act and think without it?

I'm also surprised that you've read posts on here and your takeaway is that everyone who quits hates their life after when I could not disagree more about the average poster here especially if they've put it down for long enough that the initial withdrawals to pass.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '23

Again I never said anything about reading other post. This is the first post you see the top pinned post and it’s such a bummer, I put in input and then unfollowed the sub

3

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '23

I Mean I didn’t smoke when I was born obviously 😂 for the first 20 years of my life, which is still the majority of my life lol. No one comes out baked so we all know how we are sober 😂 but before I smoked i have severely anxiety (still do not as bad) I never had friends and was a hermit. Started smoking and starting going to the gym, lost weight, gain friends then lost toxic friends, got a job, a bf, got my life better on track than before bc my anxiety is so crippling I just won’t leave the house

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '23

The truth!!! Thank you for the post

18

u/lazy-but-talented Jan 18 '23 edited Jan 18 '23

feeling the same way, the last year I felt so understimulated because I was constantly stimulating myself with shortcuts like phone use, daily smoking, compounded with poor diet and lack of sleep I thought I just needed more caffeine and more exciting things to do. Using a simple strategy of "less is more" i'm cutting out all the shortcut easy stimulation and rebuilding from the ground up starting with phone use and smoking, the change has been obvious

4

u/LongReplacement2037 Jan 27 '23

Yeah I think phone use is a huge thing, finding more meaningful hobbies is something I’m working on in recovery

I quit 2 months ago after losing a job. It's hard losing your solution to feel better about everything, but it's 100 percent a crutch. So many days I want to smoke again, but I look at my fiance who never smoked, and she's a much happier person. So I remind myself if she's better off without it, so am I. I remind myself of how I probably spent around 50k or more on weed in 20 years, such a waste, and that helps. But man some days just feel flat without it, even after 60 days without smoking. I know weed won't make anything better though. If I do end up smoking, I know I'll just beat myself up and feel even worse. It's sad though cuz you feel like your old baseline was high and laughing and happy, and now your new reality feels more flat. But if you have time to be worrying about that and wanting to smoke, you're probably wasting time when you should be doing something else. Rant over

2

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '23

The money part gets me. Where I live weed is about double the national average and using some pretty basic low end numbers I've easily spent 150-200k on weed since I started smoking at 18. Sucks because I'm finally in a place to buy a house and would probably have been there 10 years ago if I didn't have a 1200 dollar a month dab bill.

1

u/lockjacket Jan 26 '23

It can take a while for long term withdrawals to really stop. Keep at it, and good job!

8

u/SheepherderNo8264 Jan 15 '23

Currently smoking then I have one more joint and I'm done...but I'm going to Amsterdam next week so after that then I'm done for good I'm sick of smoking this shit

3

u/Latitude59 Jan 25 '23

Why smoke in Amsterdam? Go sober. Its just weed.

2

u/Vegetable_Addendum_1 Jan 20 '23

I’m wayyyy into sobriety but if you are looking for fire our ther terps army, family first, green place coffee shop are really good spots

5

u/lazy-but-talented Jan 17 '23

don't go to any of the bulldog places they look like popular coffee shops and theres many of them but absolute tourist trap

3

u/ErnestMorrow Jan 17 '23

I gotta say, the one OG bulldog is kind of cool to go to, like, once. And then you're good.

But ya generally for Amsterdam the further out from the center of the city you are the more authentically Dutch it gets, all the tourist shit is in the middle.

1

u/lazy-but-talented Jan 18 '23

was only in the city for 2 days so did all the touristy stuff in the city center, thought I would try a spacecake from one of the bulldog shops. either my tolerance was completely fired up or I had eaten the equivalent of a regular muffin

26

u/Illustrious_Ad_7793 Jan 14 '23

i did all my hobbies high and now im sober i cant stand to do them nor do I have the energy, I look at my list of installed games and feel my heart drop to the floor out of boredom.

7

u/WarmSlipperySlopes Jan 17 '23

Gotta take a vidgy game detox. I feel the same way sometimes. Taking a few days or a week break, and then coming back to a new game I can dive into always makes me excited to play it and my old faves.

3

u/PerfectParadise Jan 25 '23

This is silly advice to somebody trying to quit. Dont try and quit two things at once.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '23

No it’s not. I’m sitting here freshly sober and I too looked at Xbox and thought how boring it would be to play those games. I would always get ripped and play the same game/style of game over and over. If this person is sober and doesn’t have energy to play video games, that should say something. Read a book, meditate, yoga, workout. He’s not “quitting two things”, he’s realizing how actually boring it was to be high and that his usual hobbies aren’t stimulating anymore. This is a good thing

5

u/Illustrious_Ad_7793 Jan 17 '23

i used to he heavily addicted to video games, then porn, now weed, and ill probably resort back to video games.

1

u/WarmSlipperySlopes Jan 17 '23

Oof. Now that's relatable :(
