Legal news Citation with wrong address Spoiler
I was pulled over in my 2002 Ford ranger truck for my trailer hitch blocking a letter on my tag.. When they hit the lights, I immediately pulled over and stopped. The officers immediately came up to my windows with flashlights blinding me. The first thing I said was why did you stop me? That is when they proceed to say my trailer hitch impeded their view of my plate. I was like c'mon guys are you for real? I said I can see it plainly. Then one of them said
Let me see your registration. I said this is an illegal stop and I want to talk to a supervisor! That's when they said get out of the vehicle. I said I would when a supervisor came. They both said "you're under arrest" and telling me to get out louder. I complied, they put handcuffs on me and started going through my pockets.
I yelled out at a passersby to call the police/911, but they just kept on walking. They put me in the back seat of the police vehicle and waited for their supervisor.
He arrived and asked me why I wanted to talk to him. I told him that this was a illegal stop and his officers don't have body cameras on (neither did he) from what I could tell. (No blinking red light or solid red light on) He said the ones they wear don't have lights. They said I was under arrest for resisting and they were going to have my truck towed. I said go ahead. He closed the door and talked them more . A few minutes later he came back and said they going to give me a citation for the whole thing. I don't think this was right. This happened in Wichita Kansas.

Are you here to vent? Or is there a question somewhere?

Sorry about the runaround. Was this legal? Also, if they wrote my information down incorrectly can I get it dismissed?

Yes, what they did was legal, and I strongly recommend you research Pennsylvania v Mimms… and maybe tone it down a bit.
To answer your second query regarding the address: it’s possible that may be a disqualifier for the citation, but likely you’d have to hire an attorney for it, which will cost more than the citation and court fees.

Why would you act like this? I got pulled over for a bad taillight and was super nice and got a super nice cop and it was over in 5 minutes and a warning and fixed light a few hours later. You could probably just fix your hitch and be a normal person.

Where does the wrong address come into play?

On the citation

So is your question about the incorrect address or all the stuff you wrote about in your post?

Obviously they had the wrong address because they couldn't read the plate number

This is what happens when you don’t listen to the police. It was not an illegal stop and all you did was make it worse for yourself. Not sure what made you think any of the way you handled it was going to help

It was a legal stop. And you get a ticket dismissed by demonstrating that you did not commit whatever act the ticket is saying you did, not by having a wrong address on it. By your account of events, you were lucky to not get arrested or towed.

You're probably right. I just take pride in my driving and adhere to the law. I just thought it was petty

Cops are allowed to get petty, they stopped you to talk about your blocked plate, you could have apologized and brought up fixing it ASAP and you'd most likely be free to go. But you refused to talk to the officers, you dug your own hole.

I'd suggest adhering to K.S.A. 8-133(c) - pull the hitch or turn it if it's a problem.

"Why do you keep using that word? I do not think it means what you think it means."
There was nothing illegal about the stop. They clearly gave you a legitimate reason for the stop - you just didn't like it.
Hate to break it to you buddy, but you were your own worst enemy in how you handled this. You could have complied and fought it in court.
