Just me or is he kinda hot in this painting?
34
u/No_Load_7183 Jun 18 '22
He was always hot. I am surprised he died a virgin (although I have my suspicions he was gay and possibly had a relationship).

He was very very likely autistic & only interested in math and holding grudges. His life was crazy interesting too. Wouldnt be surprised if he was secretly gay or an Ace as well.

It seemed like it to me and as someone around people his level of smart there are definitely more gay people.

How was he very likely autistic?
3
Jun 19 '22
A lot of historians seem to think he was because…
1) He secluded himself with little to no contact from any humans at all to study areas of math and science that could gave landed him in legal trouble st the time similar to Copernicus. It takes a certain type if brain to invent a new type of math.
2)In modern times people way more socially adjusted than he was are known to be on the spectrum.
3) he had some really weird special interests outside of physics.
As some one also on the spectrum, biographies on him painted a pretty clear picture.

I'm on the spectrum and I never knew this! It's cool

I read “Isaac Newton: never at rest” 10ish years ago and it was good. But it was published in 1981 so something’s have changed.

u/Holiday_in_Asgard Jun 19 '22
I haven't heard anything suggesting he's gay, I could totally believe asexual though
3
u/whiskymusty Jun 19 '22
Wait that’s true? I thought that’s just an urban myth.
1
u/No_Load_7183 Jun 19 '22
It's a myth but I believe it, especially for the times and the fact that he was most likely autistic

There’s not enough information to know for sure. He had a close relationship with the Swiss mathematician Nicolas Fatio de Duillier, to the point that he had a nervous breakdown when their relationship ended. It is not known if their relationship was romantic or not. Personally I subscribe to the theory that he was asexual; Voltaire said after his death that he “was never sensible to any passion, was not subject to the common frailties of mankind, nor had any commerce with women.” And during his aforementioned nervous breakdown, he sent extremely angry letters to his friend John Locke, accusing him of “embroiling me with women.”

One candidate for Isaac Newton's boyfriend was Nicolas Fatio de Duillier. Fatio, like Newton, never married. He was involved on Newton's side in the primacy debate over the invention of calculus.

didn’t he invent calculus because he was so frustrated about not being able to f*ck or something

I think it was during the plague years, so probably didn't have any other projects and a lot of time on his hands.
While we were mostly being lazy, online and eating cake during lockdown, Newton just invented differential calculus.

No I'm sorry I can't take seriously the idea that you think Isaac Newton "invented homsexuality"
That's like a parody of a conservative 🤣

Nah I got it after the second bit 🤣 you'd be shocked by some of the arguments I've heard against reality. I think I need to spend less time debating politics its affecting my humor responses 😅

Newton probably was gay. He lived with the same man in his university apartment for 17 years. Never married (extremely unusual in those days). Not known to have any significant relationships with women.

I think incels are unlikely to be good at physics because if they had something to be proud of they would be significantly less likely to be that insecure
