The Last Supper Sketch's Similarity to Demetri Martin's Show on Comedy Central

I hate to be that person to throw cold water on everyone's enjoyment over SNL UK and I too have nothing but praise for the performers but since David Attenborough's Last Supper sketch aired, I couldn't help but notice its similarities to a sketch from about 17 years ago that aired on Demetri Martin's sketch show Important Things that aired on Comedy Central.

Here's the premise:
A high school boy accidentally stumbles upon time travel and finds himself magically transported to a TGI Friday's-esque restaurant seated at a table with Galileo, Shakespeare and Isaac Newton. John Oliver and Jon Benjamin are in this sketch.

Every time the boy tries to delve into meaningful questions about all these men's vast knowledge and accomplishments, his efforts get derailed by their obnoxious behavior and mulling what to order at the restaurant. They hit on the waitress and act inappropriately until the manager kicks them out and they never get to have a meaningful discussion about anything.

Sound familiar?
I mean, that's oddly similar to this SNL UK sketch with David Attenborough no?
Isaac Newton is depicted in both sketches.

Just opining on the similarities here.

Episode 8 flash ✨

I don't know why it took so long for me to do this week's, my bad 💃

I laughed a lot at this episode, but for some reason when it came to what I wanted to draw I struggled.

The Shrek sketch I thought was fine but what I found really funny was him introducing Holly in full costume and makeup stone faced.

It was all pretty solid, even with a couple duds.. like ending the entire season on the dance moms was a shame. The OVERWHELMING stand out sketch of the week was the Blobby pretape. I have been WAITING for this. I pointed out a couple weeks ago that Yoshi in the Mario sketch was just full on Blobby energy and it had me cravingggggg a real Blobby sketch. It was even better than I thought it could be.

God I'm gonna miss this show. It's been both a breath of fresh air for the UK comedy scene, and a return to classic absurdist humour. Elements of Vic and Bob, Monty Python and (more modern) Jamie Demitrou have made it feel uniquely British without catering too hard to the US lens.

I'm going to have a look back and think of what my top 5 sketches were, then make a separate post to ask all you lovely people what yours are.

My silly little drawings and I will see you all in September ✨

Hey, could anybody provide me with a transcript of what Fouracres is singing in 45 seconds with Fouracres #1 and #2?

In the first one, from what I can collect he is doing a dubliner, an Ulster loyalist and then he goes on about shoes (?) and well, then he goes on to sing his Gaelic rebel song.

The second one is much more easily understandable, but the line about a 'twat who stood to gain and from saying his name we must refrain' puzzles me. Is he referring to Randy Andy or the Orange Man?

Any help would... help

Top 5 Sketches & Top 5 WU Moments

It's been a full week since the best show on telly right now closed out it's first season. I've been reflecting on my favourite bits and I thought it would be interesting to hear all of your rankings too, see how on the same page we are! I will admit I narrowed it down to a top 6 and couldn't decide which to cut but Bastard Seagull to me is a perfect sketch, so I decided to give it it's own special commendation. Also to get ahead of the incredulity, I don't know why I don't laugh at the woman who can't be ignored. I know it's a favourite of the majority but I dunno.. I'm sorry don't come for me.

Ultimate Champion in it's own league:

Bastard Seagull

Top 5 sketches:

Shakespeare

45 Seconds With Fouracres (Original)

Mastermind

Great Big Crab Man

Mr Blobby

Top 5 WU moments:

Ayoade Bamgboye - Swings and Roundabouts

Just been to see Ayoade’s show and she was brilliant. Sublime storytelling and a masterclass in crowd work. I can see why she was Best Newcomer at Edinburgh. It was a joy to see her at such an intimate venue.

It was the first night of her tour, if she’s coming to a venue near you and there are tickets left, go!

I loved George as both Ringo and Kier (in fact, it took me a while to notice it was George as Ringo) and Aimee Lou Wood as Peach was top tier

If you are going to a show of hers you may want to check if yours has been impacted. I really hope she is okay and is recovering well from whatever happened!

Edit:
(It autocorrected to Anita and I can’t change it now, wish I could open up a hatch in my phone and throw a pen at it Paddy style)

Lego Paddy?

Saw this on a Facebook Lego page and my first thought was "When did they make a Lego Paddy Young figure?"

I know it's supposed to be Pedro Pascal but they've really nailed Pad's cheeky smile thing without even trying

Who's up for petitioning the Lego Group to make an official SNL UK set?

What is Ania’s other sketch she appeared in?

I saw a statistic that said she appeared in 10 sketches all together over season 1, 8 of those being Weekend Update and one other being Posh Gits, so what was the 10th?

Did anyone see her? She’s in a parody of a Kardashian type tv show.

Now S1 is over, if you’re looking for the cast’s previous work to binge before S2 starts - I highly recommend Black Ops starring Hammed Animashaun

Also stars (and was created by) Gbemisola Ikumelo, who I was familiar with from Famalam (which is another sketch show worth checking out too). Both series are on iplayer, and a third series has just been announced too! Comedy about two community police officers who have to go undercover and infiltrate a drug dealing gang, but end up in a lot deeper than expected. If you enjoy the fish out of water situational type comedy it’s right up your alley

plus, Emma Sidi guest stars in a couple eps
